- Tiny Patch #2 - 8 July 2024
Hi everybody! My name is Rishu and I'm the lead programmer and composer here at Bug Burrow. Amelia is out sick today so for today's community post, you've got me instead! We hope you've been enjoying Garage Sale over this past launch week! It has been super rewarding for everyone here at Bug Burrow to watch people play through our little game on YouTube and/or Twitch. Thanks for bearing with us as we continue to take care of the remaining bugs that we encounter. It was Independence Day weekend over here in the US, so progress has been a little bit slow as we take some time to rest and enjoy spending time with our families. However, we were able to knock out several smaller issues that people ran into. Here are the notes: Fixed issue where the continue button would not show up on the title screen even if the player had an autosave in the game Large gibberish tooltip when hovering over do…
- Tiny Patch #1! - 1 July 2024
Thanks everybody for bearing with us as we fix a few bugs! We're a small team working on this game in our free time, but we're doing what we can based on the reports we have so far. Here's what we fixed in our first tiny patch: Fixed an issue with the game's Linux version not downloading properly. Changed a collision that was blocking players in part of the library during a certain quest. Fixed the margins of a document. Edited sprite coloring and fixed dialogue that displayed incorrect portraits. We should have a more significant patch to address a few small issues with the UI as well as Xbox controller support soon. We're also aware of a rare issue where the game occasionally crashes after viewing a document up close (this includes things like books and newspapers). We unfortunately haven't been able to recreate this yet, so please let us know if you run into it! You can report bugs a…
- Garage Sale is coming to Steam this Friday! - 25 June 2024
Garage Sale will be out on Steam on June 28! We've been hard at work finalizing our cozy exploration game over the past few months, and we're finally almost ready to welcome everybody to the world of Lettuce Village! We've spent two and a half years working on this game in our free time, and we're really proud of the little world we were able to create with a small team and no funding. We hope you love it as much as we do! If you're a journalist or content creator (or just want to say hi), we'd love to get in touch — please email us at [email protected]. And, if you want a place to chat about the game on release day, join our Discord server! See you this Friday! - Amelia + the Garage Sale Team :~)
- The Lettuce Village Lowdown (Devlog) — February 2023 - 14 March 2024
Welcome back to The Lettuce Village Lowdown! The Lettuce Village Lowdown is the name of a newspaper run by a *very* passionate character who you’ll meet in Garage Sale, and we’re now also adopting the name for our new series of monthly devlogs. This month’s devlog will be a little slim as we’re mostly just working on polishing things now, but we still have a few things to share (and one pretty big update at the end)! Item Art! Last month, we mentioned having a new animation that shows off items up close. We’ve been hard at work on creating the art for these items — there are a lot of items to pick up in Garage Sale, but we just have a few to go now! Here are a few we’ve added so far: Environment Sound! Our lead sound designer, Rishu, spent quite a lot of time layering sound effects to create some really neat environmental loops. Now, when you walk through the forest, you’ll hear birds c…
- The Lettuce Village Lowdown (Devlog) — January 2023 - 3 February 2024
Welcome back to The Lettuce Village Lowdown! The Lettuce Village Lowdown is the name of a newspaper run by a *very* passionate character who you’ll meet in Garage Sale, and we’re now also adopting the name for our new series of monthly devlogs. We have a big chunk of little updates to share with you this month, and we couldn’t be more excited! Playtesting! We spent a few weeks this month watching people play our game, and we learned a lot from it! People pointed out things we wouldn’t have noticed and gave us some really neat ideas. During and after these tests, we reworked some quests, changed some settings, and added a LOT of stuff ranging from a brief tutorial to new art and a map (more on that later). We feel super great about Garage Sale after making all of these changes, and our upcoming final round of testing should now just be to identify and quickly knock out any remaining bugs…
- The Lettuce Village Lowdown (Devlog) — December 2023 - 11 January 2024
Welcome back to The Lettuce Village Lowdown! The Lettuce Village Lowdown is the name of a newspaper run by a *very* passionate character who you’ll meet in Garage Sale, and we’re now also adopting the name for our new series of monthly devlogs. We’re a bit late because of the holidays and our ongoing playtesting, but we’ve got one big update and a few smaller ones to let you know where we’re at (and we’ll have a big chunk of updates to share with you at the end of January!). Our Game Is… Pretty Much Complete! WOW! It’s been a long journey, but our game is finally 100% playable from start to finish! In December, we finished adding every single item (there are over 50), hiding every single coin, and putting together every piece of our ending. We’re still wrapping up work on a few smaller features (like long-needed accessibility features, better ways to view items up close, and music) in J…
- The Lettuce Village Lowdown (Devlog) — November 2023 - 3 December 2023
Welcome back to The Lettuce Village Lowdown! The Lettuce Village Lowdown is the name of a newspaper run by a *very* passionate character who you’ll meet in Garage Sale, and we’re now also adopting the name for our new series of monthly devlogs. We’ve been really hard at work on Garage Sale this month, so we’re excited to share a few tidbits and insights into our development process with you! Flavor Text, Collisions, and Layering Done! We tackled a huge chunk of work this month. We’re finally done adding interactivity to every room in the game! This has played a HUGE role in helping our game feel more like… a real game. Now, you can interact with almost anything — kitchen counters, framed drawings on walls, the mysterious box that’s sitting in the town square — to get a bit more information about it. This has also included adding quite a few tiny easter eggs that go beyond just reading t…
- The Lettuce Village Lowdown (Devlog) — October 2023 - 2 November 2023
Welcome back to The Lettuce Village Lowdown! The Lettuce Village Lowdown is the name of a newspaper run by a very passionate character who you’ll meet in Garage Sale, and we’re now also adopting the name for our new series of monthly devlogs. It’s been a busy month for our team (and most of what we’ve worked on is in spoiler territory) so this is a bit short, but here's a quick recap of everything we’ve been up to during October. Ending! Our game has an ending! Like a lot of things we’ve added recently, there’s not much we can reveal about this without spoiling the game. What we can say, though, is that the ending is very dependent on the way you interact with Lettuce Village — the friends you make, items you collect, and quests you complete will all affect the game’s ending. We’ve added quite a few new features to make this possible, so this ended up taking a bit longer than expected (…
- The Lettuce Village Lowdown (Devlog) — September 2023 - 1 October 2023
Welcome back to The Lettuce Village Lowdown! The Lettuce Village Lowdown is the name of a newspaper run by a *very* passionate character who you’ll meet in Garage Sale, and we’re now also adopting the name for our new series of monthly devlogs. Here’s everything we’ve been up to during September, but first, an important update on our release date: Garage Sale will now be out in early 2024. We’re still on track to complete development in the coming weeks, but after reflecting on the time we’ve spent working on our game, we want to dedicate an extra few weeks to playtesting and fine-tuning to make sure we’re able to release exactly what we intended to create when we began crafting the world of Lettuce Village. It’s been a long two years since we decided to turn our game into the Garage Sale it is today — a little under two years ago, Garage Sale was just a Bitsy game with just a few rooms…
- The Lettuce Village Lowdown (Devlog) — August 2023 - 1 September 2023
Welcome to The Lettuce Village Lowdown! The Lettuce Village Lowdown is the name of a newspaper run by a very passionate character who you’ll meet in Garage Sale, and we’re now also adopting the name for our new series of monthly devlogs. As we hone in on wrapping our game (and settling on a release date), we want to share more of our process with everybody. Here’s what we’ve been up to during August! Adding Quests We finally wrapped Garage Sale’s environment design in July! Since then, we’ve been focusing on filling that environment with characters and quests, which means we get to finally explore Lettuce Village the way it was intended to be explored for the first time (exciting!). Rishu, our lead programmer, has been implementing last-minute changes to the quest system to allow each quest to take on its own structure, while our writing team has been hard at work on tying loose ends to…
