We updated some menus and icons for the Steam Deck as we are working towards getting the game verified : The resolution dropdown list can now be scrolled with a controller. The button icons are a bit bigger and bolder, so they are easier to read. Some words have been changed to better reflect if you are playing with a controller or mouse/keyboard. Enjoy!

We updated motion sickness settings and functionality : The tilting setting can now completely disable the tilting effect. We also updated the slider values because it was a bit confusing to set up for players. We added a new setting named “Stick to surfaces”. The setting prevents the fly avatar from sticking to anything, so you can no longer be disoriented by crawling upside down, for example. This feature can impact immersion or game experience, so it needs to be activated manually in the settings menu. Thanks for your feedback!

Hey! We just made an important update on the demo. You will find bug fixes, visual improvements (in the UI and the fonts) and more importantly, you will find 2 new languages : French and Japanese. I translated the game in French since it’s my native language. msBean offered to translate in Japanese. THANKS! Jonathan reached out to msBean to send the demo because we noticed the beta demo had already been played on the msBean twitch channel. Hey folks! The demo is finally out! It features : Anti-sickness options so people who are sensitive to motion sickness can now also enjoy the game. A “run” button that lets you fly faster. A new level The saddest caterpillar ever! New mechanics Bug fixes (thanks for your feedback!) Note that the demo is not the beginning of the game. It starts with a “demo exclusive” level. Then, you reach a level that comes “somewhere later in the game”. This way, you should get a good idea of the direction we are going for the whole game. - Release delay and new demo - 13 September 2023
Hey everyone, The title says it all. We have two pieces of news: we have to delay the game release, but in the meantime, we will release a new demo of The Hungry Fly. Why this delay? We realized we could not meet the 2023 deadline and get the quality we want. We prefer to delay the release instead of cutting too much content. Levels are very different from each other, so it takes a lot of time to develop, more than we thought. We underestimated the challenges this development takes. We think waiting is worth it. We don’t want to promise a release date for now. Obviously, we already have some ideas, but we’ll wait before announcing any date so we are sure we can keep our promise this time. After more than a year of development, the first demo is out! This release marks only the beginning, yet it still feels like a long time ago that we started this project. It started with “it would be cool if we could embody a fly eating rotting flesh”, and it’s now a dark tale with a very personal story. With The Hungry Fly, we wanted to try a new approach to development. When making our first game The Repairing Mantis, I tried to stick completely to the initial vision I’ve had of the game, and integrate nothing else, so the experience would be as “pure” as possible. In other words, I got rid of everything that didn’t evoke some very specific emotions. Was it really necessary to make an interesting game? I thought it did.
