- New "Notebook" feature complete - 14 May 2026
We've been hard at work on a new feature: the Notebook. This is a place you can save and reuse entire circuits, or selected sub-circuits, from your design table. In the editor, right below the other tools, there is now a 📖Notebook button. Clicking this opens your notebook, and initially, all it contains is a letter from Alicia. If you've used the Copy (C) or Cut (X) commands in the editor, then New from Clipboard will be enabled; otherwise, you can always use either New from Table (to save the whole circuit) or New from Selection (to save just the selected part). That will create a new page, and let you name it however you like. Here's an example from later on in the game, when I have quite a few saved designs.Or, you can select one of the previously saved designs, and Use (or Delete) it. If you click Use, then the notebook closes, and you're back in the editor, with the circuit attached…
- Major progress on Inversion Institute refit - 27 March 2026
We've been hard at work since the last update, polishing up the new raylib-miniscript engine and porting Inversion Institute over to it.The game is now fully playable, from main menu, through all 15 puzzles. It's faster, more stable, and the fonts look better (though we still have some revisions to do on that). But it's essentially the same game you could download and play now. The only thing missing is the Options screen; that'll probably be done by next week. We're also starting in on some new features. When testing your magic-ink circuit, it currently shows you the number of gates and total amount of ink used. We're planning to also add a "core area" which measures a box around all the inversion gates and crossings in your design. We might then add a histogram showing how your solution compares on these three measures to everyone else who's solved the same puzzle. That way, those who…
- Rumors of Our Demise Have Been Greatly Exaggerated - 19 March 2026
OK, I admit it. Inversion Institute has been languishing on the back burner for several years now.But those days are over. We are refreshing it and enthusiastically pushing it forward once again! This will mean better responsiveness, more puzzles, and new features. As part of that effort, I'm porting the game to a new backend. (Still written in MiniScript, but his one rendering via Raylib instead of Unity.) Today I got the editor and simulator working in the new environment for the first time. Check it out:It works! Watch this space for regular (weekly or so) updates as it progresses, and leave comments to share your thoughts. I hope you're as excited as I am to play Inversion Institute again!
- Update Notes for Nov. 04 - 4 November 2022
added two new puzzles (chapters 13 and 14) added a Music On/Off switch in the Options screen added a restricted edit area in the ink editor, so you can't accidentally clobber the input/output nodes
