• Version 0.24 Complete - Raisa's Path & More - 2 April 2026

  Version 0.24 is finally wrapped up and in the hands of play testers. This time around the word count is up to about 66k, meaning about 20 mins of gameplay has been added to the early game since version 0.23. We've also finished the last of the new animations for the festival h-scenes on Raisa and Lucine's paths. Expect overall story improvements and expansions plus the new choice system expanding across more of the prologue, although there's still more to be done. The title screen has also been completed, and we've added some more of the menu decorations to match the revamped GUI. We'll be releasing a new free demo soon with all of the early game expansions and new menus for better Steam Deck support.We've also added in the placeholder art for the final creek scene, but the writing in that scene still needs to fleshed out. We plan to finish that in our next update, then slowly chip away…

• Version 0.22 Complete - The Overhaul Update Part-2 - 11 November 2025

  Version 0.22 is finished and now in the hands of play testers. In this update we focused on overhauling our menu systems, GUI, and redesigning everything in a way that fixes support for controllers and handhelds like the Steam Deck. The Android experience has also been improved with a more polished interface with special made assets instead of just rescaled assets from the PC version. In the story we focused on expanding and refining Eryn's romance path, although the changes are part of a broader overhaul that isn't yet complete. The total play time has increased by about 10 minutes, but this includes major rewrites to existing scenes so a significant amount was removed. Like the last update, this version will require old persistent data to be deleted, so if you have weird bugs on Windows check in your appdata folder (C:\\Users\\\\\AppData\\Roaming\\RenPy\\RefugeOfEmbers\\) for old pers…

• New Free Demo Out for VN Festival! - 3 March 2025

  A major update to the free demo is now out for the Steam VN Festival. The artist and I are both really excited to showcase what we've been working on since the last public release. The first thing you'll notice is the improved artwork. New scenes have been added, and other scenes have been redrawn. The animated sex scenes have been completely overhauled in the game, and for the new demo we went back into the prologue to update some of the early artwork that no longer fit. The intro sex scene is now full animated with 6 different camera angles. The accompanying writing has also been improved. Lucine's first sex scene has also been completely replaced, and again with multiple camera angles as the scene progresses. More improvements will be coming as we progress. • Beta 0.15 Build Completed - 5 February 2025

  This was originally posted 1/30/2024 - I'm bringing all of last year's devlogs here to Steam this month to get everything up to date across all of our platforms. https://i.ibb.co/5hKyys4Z/01.png Version 0.15 which is our first update focusing on the romance paths is in the hands of play testers. The script is now up to 24,741 words with a good chunk of new gameplay added to Eryn's romance path. This time around we really tried to work on building the relationship between the MC and Eryn by touching up the dialogue in their earlier scenes, as well as giving them their first animated h-scene in the second act. We also touched up some of the early game art that didn't quite look like the characters following the sprite revision way back in version 0.10 beta and playable demo. • Beta 0.14 Build Completed - 20 April 2024

  Version 0.14 is now completed and is in play testing. The script is up to 22,153 words with an additional 5-10 mins of main story. This update has a lot of complex artwork packed into some quick scenes and we're both really happy with how everything came out. We also experimented with some new tricks for animations, but rotating the wheel on the lift turned out to be way harder than we thought. The sound effects were also pretty fun to make this time around. Next update will start building out Eryn's romance route. Let us know if you find any bugs. • Beta 0.13 Build Completed - 31 August 2023

  Version 0.13 is now completed and is in play testing. This is a pretty good sized update that expands the main story line by introducing the final 3 planned main characters. The first character Aline is an elite and high ranking sentinel whose family has close ties to the head priestess and royal family. Next we added the head priestess herself, Evana, the current leader of the Order of Vera. Finally we added Silva, another sentinel but a wild card for sure. Another major focus in this build was adding new locations and backgrounds centering around the temple area. We're pretty happy with how everything came out and I think we really captured the kind of world flavor that we're going for in the artwork. • Free demo is now live! - 11 August 2023

  Our demo build with the complete prologue chapter is available for free. The demo features 45-75 minutes of gameplay spread out over 5 story paths, as well as a hidden object game that will eventually unlock bonus scenes in the full release. The full release is still under development, so be sure to leave us feedback on which characters you'd like to see more content for. Leave us a wishlist if you like the game!

• Beta 0.12 Build Completed - 8 July 2023

  Version 0.12 is now completed and is in play testing. New gameplay is pretty short in this one since the new scenes required a lot of poses and complex movement, and the scene immediately following requires new locations and characters that will be coming in version 0.13. We also added a new background that isn't used in this version yet. Under the hood we've made some major changes. The GUI should look more or less the same but the way it works will make translations a lot easier for us. All of the menu tabs that say Start, Load, Options, etc used to be pictures that already included text. Now the buttons are all blank and the game generates the text on top which sounds simple but turned out to be pretty tricky.
