  • This ambitious Half-Life 2 mod asks: what if Iron Lung had a submarine and an airship? - 27 September 2026

Like many people, I'm a big fan of quickfire submarine horror adventure Iron Lung . Yet despite receiving rave reviews and spawning a film adaptation by Markiplier, surprisingly few games have picked up its baton of vehicular terror. There are other submarine horror games like Barotrauma , as well as job-based horror games like Klekta and Shift at Midnight . But the former has quite a different vibe, while the latter pair seem more inspired by Lethal Company than David Szymanski's 2022 horror... Read more.

  • Web port wizards produce browser versions of Half-Life 2 and Portal - 27 June 2026

It's been established that Doom can run on produce , but porting wizardry doesn't start and end with blasting cacodemons on increasingly ludicrous hardware setups. It's sometimes the simple things that stick out most, like this web browser port of Half-Life 2 . Not as silly as potatoes, but impressive all the same... Read more.

  • "That lore terrifies me": Ex-Valve writer Chet Faliszek isn't interested in writing a Half-Life 3, as he wouldn't touch a sequel "with with a 10-foot pole" - 18 May 2026

Stop it. Stop trying to make him do it. He won't. He will not do it. He's been very clear with you. Yes, you, seemingly random commenter who's suggested that making Half-Life 3 would be a piece of cake. Former Valve writer Chet Faliszek doesn't reckon it would be. The mythical sequel's also not something he'd be interested in penning, because he's not a fan of having to deal with a tonne of established lore. Read more

  • Former Valve writer Chet Faliszek has no interest in writing Half-Life 3: 'I don't want to touch that with a 10-foot pole' - 17 May 2026

Chet Faliszek opens the above video by explaining, "This is not saying that something's happening, not trying to allude to anything. I'm going to talk about some stuff from like 10-plus years ago. I'm not trying to say anything . OK?" Because if you were a writer on Half-Life 2's episodes (as well as the Left 4 Dead games, the Portal games, other Valve projects, etc.) the internet will interpret anything you say as a confirmation that Half-Life 3 is in the works and will be announced at whatever unassuming videogame showcase is on the horizon , no matter how unlikely... • Imagine GTA with AI-generated characters "just going along with whatever insane thing you say," muses Valve writer, absent-mindedly spotlighting what terrifies me about genAI - 25 March 2026

Like many people at companies preoccupied with discovering the next "goose that lays the golden egg" , Half-Life 2 and Portal writer Erik Wolpaw has been "poking around" with generative AI. He and a small team at Valve have been testing out different applications, in what Wolpaw assures us isn't a "concerted" effort at implementing the soul-regurgitating , workforce-abrading gadgetry in any particular new game. Wolpaw's current feeling is that generative AI isn't very good at anything "creative", like cracking jokes. But he does think Large Language Models could make for entertaining NPC voice reactions in games such as Grand Theft Auto and, indeed, Wolpaw's own Left 4 Dead , because AI is marvellous at being a fawning little gopher. It is fantastic at "going along with whatever insane thing you say and kind of adjusting to the flow of that". Read more

Last year, Valve brought the original development team back together for a 20th anniversary Half-Life 2 update . It integrated the post-launch episodes, added a new developer commentary track, brought in Steam Workshop support, and added a heap of map and gameplay updates. All of which was great—except for one progress-blocking bug it introduced to the Entanglement level... Read more.

NOTE: these map updates will not break existing saves but players may need to restart their current chapter if they saved after a progress blocking bug on a previous game version.

  • Forgotten Half-Life 2 zombie mod from 2007 suddenly explodes on Steam - 14 July 2025

If Half-Life is one of the most influential videogame series in history, it's not only because of Valve, Gordon Freeman, and the actual FPS games themselves. Half-Life and Half-Life 2 are nexus points for a whole generation of PC classics. Counter-Strike began as a Half-Life mod, as did Day of Defeat, and The Hidden. The first Team Fortress was bundled as a Half-Life spinoff. The same Source engine that brings to life City 17 and Ravenholm is also the backbone of Team Fortress 2 and Portal. Originally released in 2007, Zombie Panic Source is another of Half-Life's informal descendants. A spiritual precursor to today's asymmetrical, multiplayer horror games and a staple of mid to late '00s modding, alongside CSGO and Left 4 Dead, Zombie Panic Source is now somehow having a resurgence on Steam. • Half-Life 2 will never be the same as legendary mod officially comes to Steam - 28 May 2025

How many times have you completed Half-Life 2 ? In the 21 years (yeesh) since Valve's genre-changing FPS game was first released, I'd speculate that I've destroyed the Citadel, escaped City 17, and launched the rocket from White Forest on no fewer than 30 occasions. Maybe that says something about me; maybe we really, really need Half-Life 3. Nevertheless, after more than two decades, there's an alternative way to experience Gordon Freeman's post-apocalyptic odyssey - except it doesn't involve Gordon Freeman at all. If you haven't heard of Lambda Fortress before, the iconic mod is finally coming to Steam, and lets you play Half-Life 2 like you never have before. Read the rest of the story... new episode of Netflix's Love, Death and Robots is based on a short story written back in the 80s by former Valve writer and now professional retiree Marc Laidlaw . Laidlaw left Valve in 2016 but, in a new interview with IGN , wonders whether "I retired too hard.".. Read more.

  • Half-Life 2 RTX ruined Ravenholm, but those big lighting problems just got fixed - 8 May 2025

It seems like rumors pointing to Half-Life 3's existence are reaching a new fever pitch lately, but, as has been the case for more than a decade now, it's probably better to focus your attention on games in the series that actually exist until an actual launch date is announced. For anyone looking for newer versions of those games, there have been projects like the series' VR iteration, Half-Life: Alyx, the first game's remaster as Black Mesa, and, most recently, a demo section of Half-Life 2 remastered under the title of Half-Life 2 RTX. The latter of these options, HL2 RTX, was fairly underwhelming when it came out in March, but now, as the result of a new update, one of its biggest problems has just been fixed. Price History Overview

USD uses SteamPulse's own locally recorded daily store snapshots, so this overview reflects the exact regional price history that SteamPulse has captured for this currency.

Coverage And Tracking Window

  • Snapshots: 1
  • Coverage: Oct 6, 2026 to Oct 6, 2026
  • Lowest observed: $9.99
  • Highest observed: $9.99

Half-Life 2's USD price history spans from Oct 6, 2026 to Oct 6, 2026, with 1 recorded snapshot across 1 calendar day. Each row records the available final price, listed base price, and discount metadata for that observation. Within this coverage the lowest recorded price is $9.99, the highest is $9.99, and the first visible tracked price is $9.99. These comparisons apply only to the snapshots SteamPulse holds; missing observations can contain changes that are not represented here.

For USD, SteamPulse uses locally captured regional storefront snapshots and does not reconstruct older prices with exchange-rate conversion. The chart and table show the values recorded for this exact currency from the stated coverage start. Additional snapshots extend that record, but they do not fill unobserved days or prove what the storefront displayed between observations.

Discount Windows And Sale Timing

  • Discount windows: 0
  • Discounted days: 0 days
  • Deepest markdown: No discount tracked
  • Latest sale window: No sale window tracked

Half-Life 2's tracked USD rows do not contain a discount window. This means no available snapshot in the stated coverage has usable discount metadata; it does not prove that the game was never discounted. Missing snapshots or archived rows without complete metadata can hide a sale, so SteamPulse does not infer pricing strategy from this absence.

If a later snapshot includes discount metadata, it will appear here with its recorded depth, price, date, and sale name when available. Until then, this section should be read only as a description of the available rows, not as evidence about the publisher's promotion policy.

Observed Price Changes And Stable Runs

  • Observed price drops: 0
  • Observed price rises: 0
  • Longest stable run: 1 day of uninterrupted daily tracking
  • Current run: 1 day of uninterrupted daily tracking

Outside rows carrying discount metadata, the tracked price has not recorded a separate price rise or drop yet. That means the observed undiscounted level has stayed stable across the snapshots SteamPulse currently holds. This is a statement about the recorded coverage only; it does not prove that an older or missing price change never happened.

The longest unchanged price stretch in the current record lasts 1 day of uninterrupted daily tracking at $9.99, from Oct 6, 2026 through Oct 6, 2026. Among rows without discount metadata, the longest unchanged run lasts 1 day of uninterrupted daily tracking at $9.99. The latest run records $9.99 for 1 day of uninterrupted daily tracking as the same recorded undiscounted price. Run lengths describe consecutive stored observations only and do not establish that a price is permanent.

Latest Snapshot And Sales Context

  • Current price: $9.99
  • Current list price: $9.99
  • Distinct observed prices: 1
  • Source mode: SteamPulse local tracking

The latest tracked snapshot records Half-Life 2 at $9.99 in USD, with no active discount metadata. Across the available history SteamPulse has recorded 1 distinct final price in this currency. This supports comparisons with the lowest, highest, and most common values present in the retained record, subject to the stated coverage limits.

The live sales view and Steam sales record provide calendar context for these dates. A date overlap can be compared with a named Steam event, but it does not prove why a publisher changed a price. As new daily rows arrive, this overview recalculates its observed prices, discount windows, and run lengths automatically.
