- Dev Diary #5: The Sound of Chronicles: Medieval - 12 October 2026
Welcome to the fifth chapter of our Developer Diary Series. In our previous Dev Diary, we took a closer look at Army Management, from upgrading your troops to building your army. Today, we'll explore the acoustic side of things in Chronicles: Medieval. Normally, the sound is the part of a game that nobody talks about until it's missing. A good visual, like a detailed character or an impressive castle, gets a screenshot and a share on social media for quick likes. Good sound design cannot be captured in a screenshot and shared like a quick snack. It often gets overlooked… pardon… overheard. But strip the sound away from a game, and the illusion of a virtual world instantly collapses. To determine the quality of a sound, you need a deeper and more focused investigation, a proper meal rather than a snack. And that's what we do today: a deeper look into the sound of Chronicles: Medieval. We…

In this case - a mid-sized one featuring 500 v 500 units. Everything you see is work in progress and content is subject to change. We are still working on balancing the battles and finding a sweet spot between the overall length and difficulty level. Cavalry charges and melee combat are other areas we’re focusing on. We’re pushing them to have more impact and provide a more satisfying experience, with improvements across the board, including animations, AI behavior, immersive sound, camerawork and VFX. The UI was reduced for the recording for the sake of readability…

- Dev Diary #2: Lords, Power, and War. - 22 May 2026
Welcome back to our second Developer Diary for Chronicles: Medieval. In this entry, we’ll be taking a closer look at the systems and layered mechanics that shape the living world of the game. From the foundations behind simulation and immersion to the philosophy guiding their design. But before we dive into the details, our senior writer Steven will give a short historical preamble on the thinking and inspirations behind these systems, before senior designer Álvaro walks us through how they come together in-game:Historical preambleHello! I'm Steve, senior writer on the project, and before I hand over to Álvaro to walk you through the systems that animate our world, a few words on why those systems look the way they do.The medieval world was not a kingdom in the modern sense. There was no Whitehall, no civil service, no standing bureaucracy stamping the king's will onto every village. A k…
- Developer Diary #1: What We're Building - 27 April 2026
Hello there! This is the first in what will be a regular series of developer diaries, where we want to give you a deeper look into what we are making, why we are making it the way we are, and what we are learning along the way. We will not always have everything figured out, and we want to be transparent about that, too. In this first dev diary, our Lead Producer Sam will give you a clearer understanding of what Chronicles: Medieval is all about. From our grand vision to Early Access and beyond, we want to share the full picture of what this game will become._Hello everyone! Sam Millen, Lead Producer here. I have the pleasure of being first up to share with you more about what we are building, and all the exciting things we have cooking. So, what is Chronicles Medieval? At its heart, Chronicles: Medieval is a sandbox RPG set in medieval Europe during the fourteenth and fifteenth centuri…
- Forging our combat system - 22 December 2025
Hello everyone, seasonal greetings from our hall to yours! Before the year comes to a close, we wanted to share one last small glimpse of Chronicles: Medieval with you. Think of it as a little end-of-year snack from the team, something to enjoy before we all step away for the holidays and gear up for what's up next. This update takes a look at the underlying structure of our combat system and the iterative process that guided its development. When development began on Chronicles: Medieval, it was clear that combat would require careful iteration to get right. It has to feel rewarding every single time, whether you are engaged in a duel or fighting in a larger battle with hundreds of enemies around you. It should not only feel fun. We aim for something plausible and flexible enough to support a wide range of encounters, rewarding to master, and built from the ground up to be moddable.Of c…
- Crafting believable worlds in Chronicles: Medieval - 14 November 2025
In this blog, we’ll take a closer look at how our dev team approaches building settlements in our game. That means anything from small villages to big cities that you, as a player, will get to explore. We’re building a large, immersive world in Chronicles Medieval. And a world like that needs more than open fields and forests. It needs places that draw you in.The goal was simple - we set out to handcraft beautiful, historically sourced assets and build a system that could take care of their layout and distribution. We leaned heavily on Unreal Engine’s Procedural Content Generation (PCG for short, which allows us to scatter assets that are distributed by a set of variables) and used it to feed our own, proprietary tools. We knew early on that hand-placing every building across each and every town wouldn’t just slow us down, it would limit us (and deplete our budget quite quickly, too). We…
- Announcement Trailer Deep Dive - 5 September 2025
There are very few assets in the marketing campaign of a video game that are as important as the Announcement Trailer. We put a lot of thought into how we want to frame the conversation around Chronicles: Medieval, and our team put together some truly awesome work to make that vision a reality. We’d like to take a moment to celebrate our talented colleagues, the awesome work they’ve done, and shine a well-earned spotlight on some of the incredible things they’ve created. The ProtagonistBackstory From the very beginning, we knew the trailer’s narrative had to revolve around a single character. Chronicles: Medieval is about your own personal story. Tapping into that premise, we chose to focus on one of the many “chronicles” you may write as a player. This particular chronicle? One of a man who never sought battle. But when a brutal raid rips everything away - his family, his home, his purp…
