We're all getting cabin fever... Read more.

- Morrowind in Elden Ring mod is now "mostly playable", despite the fact its creator's "entire existence has been consumed with interpreting gibberish code" - 7 May 2026
Regular RPS readers might remember me writing a couple of times last year about a modder kicking off an attempt at porting Morrowind into Elden Ring . Their early progress looked promising, if living under the cloud of several complex things the group would have to figure out in some form to get it working. After about half a year of major updateless silence, modder InfernoPlus has emerged from the dungeons of Vvardenfell to reveal that the mod's now "mostly playable", following several months of battling a number of infuriatingly complex issues. - New Morrowind mod not only adds Sekiro parry, it quietly overhauls the RPG's most controversial mechanic - 27 April 2026
Look, the Elder Scrolls series has never had great combat, but 2002's Morrowind and the games before it are the worst offenders. A new mod for the OpenMW source port could be just the thing to make the open world clunker sing, though: It adds a Sekiro-style perfect block parry, as well as one of the most cleverly balanced overhauls of Morrowind's controversial percent-chance-to-hit system I've seen... - Here's playable mahjong in Morrowind, boss, just like you ordered - 10 February 2026
I like to think I'm a relatively smart person; I can often remember most of my ABCs and it only takes me around five seconds to add seven to something. But one thing will remain forever beyond me: mahjong, the Chinese tile-based game that I mostly know as 'that one Yakuza minigame I simply don't interact with.' The fact is: it's impossible to learn. The other fact is: I've never seriously attempted to learn it. These facts are unrelated, to my mind... Read more.
- Larian publishing chief wades into the fray, says Morrowind updated with a modern combat system 'would sell like f**king hotcakes' - 2 February 2026
Bruce Nesmith has an enviable list of design and writing credits earned over a long history on some of Bethesda's greatest games: Daggerfall, Oblivion, Skyrim (on which he served as lead designer), Fallout 3 and 4, and others. None of which prevented him from being extremely wrong in his recent assessment that "the reality of playing Morrowind would not stand the test of time.".. Read more.
- Skyrim's design lead says if you play Morrowind today, you will 'cringe': 'The reality of playing Morrowind would not stand the test of time' - 31 January 2026
The PC Gamer review of Morrowind scored it an 83 back in 2002, which as the disclaimer at the top will inform you, is the lowest score a mainline Elder Scrolls game has got from the UK mag to date. That may stir feelings of confusion and unrest in you as it does "the Morrowind enjoyers of the current PC Gamer team," but Skyrim's own design lead Bruce Nesmith reckons fan demand for a remake has more to do with fuzzy nostalgia than it does the actual experience of playing Morrowind... - Morrowind is being ported into Elden Ring by a modder, complete with the vast army of goats and female clones Vvardenfell's always had - 1 September 2025
Remember when, back in the day, you made the trek through the ashlands to Red Mountain? Within, you encountered an unforgettable foe. "Come, Nerevar. Friend or traitor, come. Come and look upon the Heart, and Akulakhan. And bring Wraithguard... I have need of it", they said. "Heed my words. I am Malenia . Blade of Miquella. And I have never known defeat." Okay, so maybe not, but it's a nice image with which to open the news that a modder's managed to port the entirety of Morrowind 's landmass into Elden Ring . It's still very much a work-in-progress, as you might expect given its version of Vvardenfell's populated by copies of the same random woman and goats, but it certainly makes for a surreal watch.
