- Update 0.8.3 (New Chunk of Story) - 4 October 2026
There's a new update for the game! This update adds a new chunk of the main campaign. It was originally supposed to cover the entire section on Metra, but since a whole bunch of stuff happens on that planet, here's an intermediate update. The full changelog:New chunk of story, resuming from the previous interruption.Implemented custom localizations and custom voice-acting*.Slightly improved battle UI.Added new icons representing player's statuses:Implemented the Aeroboard. Many little bug-fixes.*Custom localizations and custom voice-actingYes.Since the 0.8.3 update, anyone can translate Ternion into any language and even create their own voice acting. There's a new GitHub repository where you can (spoiler alert!) download the game's original text and translate it into any language you like. The repository's README contains all the instructions you need to either install an existing communi…
- Aeroboard - Now you can own a Vehicle - 16 July 2026
As I stated in one of the previous posts, in the past few months I've worked on a part of the game that includes several mini-games. To implement these mini-games I had to write a lot of code, but it was quite fun!In one of these mini-games, you're asked to use a hoverboard (a hovering skateboard, like the one from Back to the Future), so I jumped at the opportunity to include it in normal gameplay. In the previous iteration of Ternion (you can find it here, it was nothing more than a tech demo, but it's free, so you can download it if you want!) there was something exactly like this, but it was implemented quite poorly... it just increased the character's speed. It was planned for this version as well, but I didn't know when or how to make it available to the player. And I genuinely even kind of forgot about it... Umh...So you can now use it anytime?Well, yes and no. A lot of people com…

- Updates on Version 0.9 - Metra - 14 March 2026
Hello dear players! Here's a little update on how things are going. What has been done in the latest months? The Early Access, after the latest update, currently stops right before reaching the city of Jeggar on planet Metra. Version 0.9 plans to add the whole chunk of story that takes place on this specific planet. There will be only one additional planet afterward, which will probably be released with version 0.10.What has been done after the Christmas holidays mainly involved working on building the city of Jeggar. Being a single developer, unfortunately, I had to focus my entire development time on that. Building every single 3D model and placing it in the scene to create the city took almost two months. After that, I proceeded to create all the cutscenes for this section before switching to the next one. I'll place a couple of screenshots at the end of the post. What's left to do befo…
- Update 0.8.1 - 24 December 2025
The game have been updated with a minor update.Fixed cardinal points on the map of Atanaki's caves*Fixed a bug where you could shoot at your own spaceship when moving at high speedFixed a bug where pressing the "pause" button on GameOver page made it impossible to select any option without using the mouseAdded a new dangerous enemy to Raithu VIIAdded missing lines to the Italian translation*Fixed cardinal points on the map of Atanaki's caves?Someone have made me notice that there's something wrong with the map of Atanaki:"West" is on the right instead of being on the left, and vice versa. I downloaded a CC0 image of a compass and placed it in the map, and didn't notice the mistake in first place. But actually there is no mistake at all.I just learned that some compasses (for example Brunton compasses) have East and West inverted, because usually when the needle is the only object moving…
- Update 0.8.0 (New Chunk of Story) - 12 December 2025
The major release has just been released. This update contains a new chunk of the main campaign. As mentioned in a previous post, it’s mostly composed of cutscenes, except for its final part. It also includes a variety of other changes to the whole game. Here’s the complete list of changes:New chunk of story, resuming from the previous interruption.5 new technique animations (to Lucy, Senso and Yuki).Vastly reduced the chance of enemies climbing onto party members during fights.Improvements to the Supplements system.Added turrets to the Ternion ship, which now fire at you during the minigame where you engage the Ternion just before landing on Kiza. The turrets are destructible.Added a pointer to the spaceship while in space, showing your prograde or retrograde motion (the icon changes depending on whether you’re moving forward or backward).Added some information about the destination plan…
- When is next update?! - 15 November 2025
Soon, don't worry. The next chunk of story will be released around December. It will contain, for the majority of game time... cutscenes... I apologize for that. There will be some gameplay, I swear! But will be limited to the very last part of the game...What made this next chunk of story take so much time to develop is the high number of cutscenes, the high number of choices for the player, and the fact that I had to make a very high number of animations. Unfortunately I don't have a motion capture set and I have to make every single animation by hand (modifying the movement curve of every single muscle by hand, not particularly fun, I must say). I wish I had my full day to work on it, but working full time on videogames for me is not sustainable at the moment, but maybe it will be in the future, I really hope so!Furthermore, something that cost me additional time was the implementatio…
- Update 0.7.4 - 15 September 2025
Ternion has been updated with a few fixes. Here is the changelog:Vastly reduced the amount of camera movement while using the HDev, to help navigating the HDev with mouse.Increased (x2/x4) the amount of credits gave by enemies at mid game (late game of early access).Added tutorial popups for Spaceship and Hovercraft.Kiza: removed two lines of dialogue.Kiza: added a popup message for a very basic HDev tutorial. Full tutorial is still available by talking with Fushiko while on that planet.Raithu VII: fixed a bug where an enemy would stop attacking if the character Senso is KO.There's more to come...In meanwhile I'm still working on the next small chunk of story and it's almost completed. Before releasing it, I planned to make a few improvements to earlier parts of the story. Hopefully I'm going to improve the Ternion's attack minigame and fix a few other issues.Cheers,MGUB...a small spoile…
- Update 0.7.3 - 6 August 2025
Here's the changelog:Fixed a bug where picking up a certain item triggered a cutscene.Fixed a bug where you can open your HDev on the main menu when is not allowed.Added props to the Ternion's map.
- Update 0.7.2 - 3 July 2025
The game have been updated with the following edits:A tweak to the "Level 10" soldiers' fightSince some players were getting stuck during the fight with the Level 10 soldiers, it has been made clearer that you are not supposed to fight them but instead flee the battle. These are the changes:Increased HP of Level 10 soldiers.Edited the tutorial message, saying explicitly that it's virtually impossible to win the following fight.Improvements to the victory panelEvery time you win a battle, you gain EXP that you can spend in your HDev to increase your parameters. This process is manual because, scattered across the maps, you can find Food Supplements: items that provide a bonus to specific parameters. However, these can only be used when you level up, and the parameter each one boosts is a secret.Previously, players had to frequently check their HDev to see whether they had enough EXP to le…
- The game is released... along with something extra. - 21 June 2025
Thank you for all the messages and suggestions during the Steam Next Fest! Some of you may have noticed that the demo was updated a couple of times to fix a few issues and implement some small requested features. Now that the game has been released, the next small updates will focus on bug fixing, while I continue working on the main campaign. When the next big chunk of the campaign is completed, it will be released in a major update. I really hope you’ll pick the game back up to experience the next parts of the story!Ugh, here comes another turn-based JRPG... There are way too many of them...Yes... that's true, unfortunately. When I decided to make a turn-based JRPG, the only well-known games in the genre were the Final Fantasy series (the earlier games before FF15), the Persona series, and a few other titles like Ni No Kuni and Yakuza: Like a Dragon which, by coincidence, was released…
- Oh no! We unintentionally released the Demo! - 1 June 2025
We said the demo would be released a few days before the #SteamNextFest (which we’re taking part in!) beginning Monday, June 9th… Well, surprise. It actually launched on Thursday, May 29th. Why? Because... yes. The game is ready, but there may be a few updates with the latest bug fixes before the event starts, or even during the event itself, since I'll be able to hear your feedback! What is Steam Next Fest? Steam Next Fest is a recurring event on Steam where developers feature upcoming games with free demos and livestreams. It runs for several days and gives players a chance to try out titles before they’re officially released. Unfortunately, there probably won’t be a Ternion livestream... (because I have to work, sadly, yeah... developing videogames is not my full time job), but it's not impossible that there will be one. In the meantime, I'll be glad to to hear your thoughts on the d…
- Linux/Steam Deck Build? Let’s Talk About It. - 3 April 2025
Hey everyone, hope you’re doing well! Today, I want to bring up a topic that has been on my mind for a while: a Linux build. As of now, the game is being developed primarily for Windows, and that has been the main focus. However, I know that a part of the community would love to see support for Linux, especially considering is the OS used by Steam Deck. The question is: How many of you would actually play it on Linux? What Would a Linux Build Involve? Well... installing Linux: This is quite simple to do, but I don't currently have any device with a Linux distribution. I suppose I would start with SteamOS because is the one used by Steam Deck, but I may do a couple tests on Ubuntu as well. Testing and Compatibility: Every feature, every scene, every fight would need to be tested on Linux to ensure it runs properly. This unfortunately takes time. Performance Optimization: Even if the game…
- Here's the Release Date - 22 February 2025
Yeah! The game isn't dead, even if there hasn't been any news since July. Unbelievable... isn't it? You may have to get used to it... but when there is news, it's usually not petty, like in this case, because now the game has a release date. And that's not all! The release date of the Early Access is... Well, it's not a secret anymore! It will be Saturday, June 21st, save the date! The game is basically already complete in the portion of the story that will be included in Early Access, with additional chunks of the story to be released consecutively. But since there are still various areas for improvement, I want to release a game that feels like a complete experience and will hopefully improve technically in the future, especially in terms of lighting, level design, 3D models, and so on. Of course, this Early Access period will be helpful for gathering suggestions to improve gameplay a…
- Ternion’s Closed Beta: Full Main Campaign Now Available - 8 July 2024
An Adventure Awaits in Early Access Are you ready to embark on a crazy journey? “Ternion,” our highly anticipated sci-fi JRPG, has just reached a new stage of development. As the game’s Early Access launch approaches, players are in for a treat. What Has Been Done and What’s Left? The part of the story that will be released with Early Access has been fully completed. This portion contains roughly 60% of the total game (with the meat of the story yet to come!), but it provides a good idea of what the completed game will be like. Even though some elements of the story are still to be discovered, you can start making assumptions by reading all the documents and investigating the lore you find around. We still can't release the game because there's a significant number of bugs and improvements that need to be addressed before the game is released as Early Access. Notably, there's a boss tha…

- Small update (& Beta Testing keys) - 8 June 2023
What are you working on? Apart from this nice little creature: Well... we're progressing on the main campaign (despite the fact that I'm very busy lately and I have so little time for Ternion). I know it's not big news, but if I were to write about every single change since the last post, I would fill several pages of information that no one could understand, except for the few who have tried the game. So, I had a different idea. To keep you informed about the current stage of development for Ternion, here is the list of planets in the main campaign and their respective development status: Honi Prime: Completed (to be extensively improved) Kiza: Completed Atanaki: Completed TSS: Completed Raithu: Completed Delta: Work in progress Metra: Planned Other content: Planned I'm not counting all the scenes in which you're not on a planet. Additionally: UI: Completed Music: Completed Modeling of…
- You didn't tell us how long will this bloody game take! - 27 February 2023
Welcome everyone to this first development update. This page have been created a few months ago but no information about the release date have been provided yet. I'll start from the beginning. This project is the videogame adaptation of a book I've personally wrote when I was 17: Ternion (luckily for you it's in Italian). It's a project I've started in 2013 but I've never completed and I recently decided to redo from scratch. The development began at the early beginning of SARS-CoV-2 pandemic and, since then, is progressing at a quite constant rate. The gameplay loop and most of the game fundamentals have been developed in the first four months. What I've been working on since April 2020 is setting up every scene and every cutscene of the game in chronological order. 28 scenes have been planned since the beginning and, currently, 15 of them have been completed. So, if my proportions are…
