• Fishing Tackle and Bait system - 22 August 2026

  A Fishing Tackle system that allows you to attach tackle, lures, and bait to fishing poles. Use those larvae and worms to catch more and bigger fish. Craft lures to up your fishing game.

• Alchemy System inspired by 'Elder Scrolls' - 30 July 2026

  The game now has an Alchemy system that allows you to create potions by combining ingredients with shared alchemical effects. Alchemical effects can be discovered by crafting potions.

• NPC and Creature Fighting - 2 July 2026

  Combat between NPCs, animals, and monsters was not implemented before because I was focusing on peacefully living inside the settlement. With build 79, NPCs will automatically attack non-prey animals and monsters that get near. Hostile animals and monsters will attack any NPCs they detect. What this means for gameplay is that the player can now lead hostile creatures into settlements to get the guards to kill them. The player can butcher the dead creature and loot the bodies of the dead guards. Combat between player-controlled characters and NPCs is not yet allowed, as I want to work more on the crime systems before I allow the player to attack NPCs.

• Steam Next Fest Time - 15 June 2026

  It has been around a year and 57 updates since I first put out a playable demo for Dreadmist. The demo has dramatically improved thanks to feedback, and if you were looking to give this a try again, now is a good time.

• Dwarf race playable and Racial Traits - 4 May 2026

  There are now three playable races: Human, Elf, and Dwarf. Each race now has Racial Traits that they start with that change how they play.

• Full Save System Implemented - 25 April 2026

  I stopped after implementing autosave and quick save, since I didn’t think a demo needed a full manual save/load system. As more people play and share feedback, I’ll be able to refine the game’s design and overall quality. A complete save/load system would be a significant quality-of-life improvement, especially for longer play sessions and experimentation.

• Road to Summer Next Fest - 12 April 2026

  I am working to constantly fix bugs, add content, and features in preparation for the Steam Next Fest this summer. I have created a changelog discussion to keep track of demo updates.

• Map Updated - Destroyed Village - 26 March 2026

  A new area of the map has been added, a destroyed village to loot, but at your own peril. Beware the undead and mutated abominations. Will you risk life and limb to see what treasures were left behind?

• Armor Update - 12 October 2025

  For the last month, I implemented the mechanics and 105 armor items to allow the player to buy, craft, and wear armor. The armor skills are now working to increase the protection of armor based on armor weight classification. The previous update implemented the basic combat mechanics for humanoid characters versus animals, as well as 22 different species of animals that spawn into the world. Additionally, it added throwing weapons and the refinement of bows/arrows stats for hunting. This is working towards having armed and armored guards to further a thief's play style. The goal for the next update is to have guards attack thieves, allow the player to pay off bounties, and have pillories to imprison the player.

• Come try a sandbox experience inspired by Kenshi and the Elder Scrolls - 12 October 2025

  The demo is the current full game build, nothing removed for multiple reasons, the greatest being that I need feedback to find where the game is succeeding and failing. You could think of it as a free early access period. I would hope to gather people who desire open sandbox games, and that they can help guide the focus.My vision is to create a huge sandbox where you can start at the bottom of society as a beggar and work your way up to building and running your own settlement, with your own adventures along the way. The dream of the early days of The Elder Scrolls was “Live another life in another world”, which is why I am trying to create as many meaningful pathways of progress as possible. The main focus of design will be on depth, management, and strategy, and not action like so many others.
