- Card Chronicles Update 2024-09-20 - 20 September 2024
👋 Hello everyone, 👋 While there’s still no new version of the game to play just yet, I’ve made quite the progress behind the scenes. The new battle structure is mostly finished, bringing us closer to a more dynamic and strategic combat experience! 🎉🎉 I’ve finally begun implementing the new cards and new synergies 🎉🎉 And you’ll soon be able to see smooth animations for drawing cards, holding them in your hand and discarding them. 🥳🥳 Thank you for your patience as I continue to refine and improve Card Chronicles: Devious Deck! Stay tuned for more updates soon! Best regards, Jan-Joachim Müller
- Card Chronicles Update 2024-09-13 - 13 September 2024
Hello Deckbuilders, There’s still no new game update this week, as implementing a proper structure for the battle flow has proven to be quite complicated. I’m working hard to ensure everything functions smoothly for a more dynamic gameplay experience. To give you a sneak peek, I’ve attached a screenshot of the new layout, where you can see the updated resource display icons. The new system shows both the currently stacked amount and the level of each resource, with each level offering a different approach to how the resource affects gameplay. Thank you for your continued patience and support! Best regards, Jan-Joachim Müller
- Card Chronicles Update 2024-09-06 - 6 September 2024
Hello Deckbuilders, This week, there won’t be a new game update, as I’m focused on refactoring the codebase. I realized it had become too messy, which would make it difficult to implement the way resources should work and add new features down the line. Refactoring now will make everything much smoother in the future. The work is progressing well. I’ve already adjusted stats, resources, ailments, and bonuses. Additionally, the battle flow has been made far more modular, breaking it down into tiny actions like drawing cards, dealing damage, updating damage based on card effects, and resolving all effects. This approach will allow for more complex interactions in the game. Thank you for your patience, and I look forward to sharing the improvements with you soon! Best regards, Jan-Joachim Müller
- Demo Update Version 0.6.3 - 30 August 2024
Hello Deckbuilders, I wanted to give you a quick update on the progress of Card Chronicles: Devious Deck. Unfortunately, due to some personal health issues this week, I wasn’t able to make as many adjustments or updates as I had hoped. I appreciate your understanding and patience, and I’m eager to get back to making improvements and adding new content soon. Thank you for your continued support, and I hope you’re all enjoying the game. Best regards, Jan-Joachim Müller ### -- -- 2024-08-30 ### Added ### Changed ### Removed ### Fixed status ailments removed after end of battle UI will be disabled if all cards were played
- Demo Update Version 0.6.2 - 23 August 2024
Good evening everyone, Let's jump right in and talk about what I did not manage to achieve this week. It was a busy week filled with new tasks, and in order to stay on top of things, I had to prioritize. Unfortunately, this meant I wasn't able to implement new enemies, resources, or cards. However, the good news is that I have already written all 35 new cards for the Brute, along with their stats. Implementing these cards will be relatively quick, though their stats may need some adjustments. Despite these setbacks, I did manage to update the UI, adjust some text, and add status ailments. That’s right—some cards will now inflict BLEED or BURN, which deal a certain amount of damage over a set number of battle turns. Additionally, for those playing on WebGL via itch.io, I’ve added a fullscreen button, making the game even more enjoyable. I understand this might not be as exciting for thos…
- HOTFIX 2024-08-20 - 20 August 2024
🔧 Fixed it was possible to end the player's turn two times with a single click -> battle order got mixed up
- Demo Update Version 0.6.1 - 16 August 2024
Hello Deckbuilders, This week, my main focus was on enhancing the UI with more information. I’ve added tooltips and adjusted the deck builder interface to make navigation and deck-building easier. I also finally decided to allow equipping the BASE SKILL—a skill card you select that will be in your hand each turn. Additionally, I fixed several bugs, including the issue of getting stuck in battle. In the coming weeks, I’ll continue to implement more tooltips, fine-tune the UI, and keep an eye on balancing cards and enemies. Plus, more content is coming to the demo, including new cards and enemies. Stay tuned, and enjoy playing Card Chronicles: Devious Deck! Best regards, Jan-Joachim Müller ### -- -- 2024-08-16 ### Added BASE SKILL can now be equipped ### Changed adjusted deck building ui; added tooltips ### Removed ### Fixed when having zero cards in your deck, you were stuck in battle

Greetings everyone, Today, I’m excited to share the latest improvements I’ve made to Card Chronicles: Devious Deck. After watching streamers play the demo during the ongoing Indie Playtest Fest, I identified and fixed numerous bugs. But the most significant new feature I’ve added is the Forge. The Forge allows you to upgrade your cards' LUCK, COST, and DMG—if you can pay the price. It’s still located in the hub, so don’t forget to give it a try. Have a great time playing, and I’ll see you next time. Best regards, Jan-Joachim Müller ### -- -- 2024-08-12 ### Added menu button to either QUIT or return to TITLE screen forge functionality to adjust card LUCK, COST and DAMAGE ### Changed adjusted UI text removed animation of player walking to battle position balanced card effects balanced card COST cursor rotation adjusted several game models ### Removed ESC button behavior to quit game ### F…

- Demo Update Version 0.5.2 - 1 August 2024
Greetings everyone, Today’s post is coming to you a day ahead of the regular schedule with the latest changes I’ve made to Card Chronicles: Devious Deck. To enhance card synergies that make more sense, I’ve adjusted several card effects. Building on the central mechanic where each card played costs health points, I’ve added more events and specific world cards. One card I’m particularly excited about is LOOP+, which has an 80% chance to reset your current HP to what it was at the start of the last dungeon floor. I’ve also started updating the tutorial. The previous version felt like a boring wall of text, and let’s be honest, nobody wants to read that much. Additionally, I’ve adjusted the overall UI structure to ensure a coherent style. I hope these changes will make the game more enjoyable. Have fun playing! To finish today post, I want to let you know that I won’t be able to update th…
- Demo Update Version 0.5.1 - 26 July 2024
Hello there, fellow deckbuilders, As previously mentioned, I am eagerly working on implementing a more cohesive card design to generate cards that synergize well with each other. This week, I took a huge step forward by making resources in battle permanent, meaning they will not reset after each turn. Additionally, I have introduced a new resource: RAGE. RAGE is a character-specific resource bound to The Brute, who, above all else, aims to deal massive amounts of damage when in a rage-like state. Therefore, stackable RAGE was implemented to later convert it into damage, given specific cards are played. Furthermore, all cards in the demo were adjusted to ensure that playing different cards has more impact. In the coming weeks, further adjustments and appropriate cards will be added to the game. Additionally, more content will be introduced after redesigning the tutorial. I hope you have…
- Demo Update Version 0.5.0 - 19 July 2024
Hello all, As previously announced, this week I focused on significant updates to several core systems to enhance your experience while playing Card Chronicles: Devious Deck. I revised the background calculations during battles and improved enemy behavior. These changes were essential to ensure that your choices in battle have a meaningful impact. Several bugs were fixed, more sound effects were added, visuals were improved, and some stats were adjusted. In future updates, these core system improvements will allow for specific card synergies and diverse enemy behaviors tailored to each enemy's lore. New content will be added once the battle and deckbuilder mechanics are properly implemented. Have a fun time and see you in the next update! If you have any spare time, I would greatly appreciate your feedback on the new changes. Until next time, Jan-Joachim Müller PS. I decided on a proper…
- Leveling up the Enemies - 16 July 2024
Hello fellow deckbuilders, It’s been a turbulent start since releasing the demo, with fixes and adjustments needed all over the place. But I’m excited to finally focus on updating and improving the Card Chronicles experience. I recently got lucky and could get Final Boss Editing to review Card Chronicles' story. As luck would have it, he’s a huge fan of deckbuilders and decided to give Card Chronicles: Devious Deck a try. You can watch his playthrough here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PJA0k5eT_tA I’ve been eagerly analyzing every step he took, every comment he made, and each bug he encountered. It’s incredibly valuable to receive such in-depth feedback on my game, and I hope to return the favor someday. Now, back to Card Chronicles: Devious Deck. I want to address the term "War of Attrition" that’s been brought up. At some point, every choice the player makes seems to become meaning…
- Demo Available As Of Today - 12 July 2024
Hello everyone, I apologize for the delay with this update, but I'm excited to announce that the Card Chronicles: Devious Deck demo is now available on Steam! The reason for the delay in this post is that, after uploading the build, I discovered that the sound effects in battle were almost non-existent. I spent some time pinpointing the issue and I'm happy to report that it wasn’t too difficult to find. I expect to have it fixed by next week. Unfortunately, this means the game will be without proper sound design for this week. I also want to address concerns about a possible lack of content. This is not the case. The issue is not that there's simply not enough content available, but rather that each new piece of content would essentially disrupt the balancing of the core gameplay loop. That's all for now. I plan to update the itch.io build weekly and apply those changes to the Steam dem…
- New Key Art Arrived - 10 July 2024
Hello all, In order to show that what I am developing is no simple cashgrab, I invested in a proper Steam Capsule to demonstrate that there is actual effort and work being spent on Card Chronicles: Devious Deck. I just received the new artwork, and I am still speechless. It is such a huge improvement over what I made myself. I am happy to share it with you today. This is the old one: And this is the real deal: I hope you like it as much as I do. Before ending this announcement, let me remind you of the upcoming demo, which will be available for Windows PCs starting July 13th here on Steam. Have a fun time! Jan
