  • After 12 years, the prices of the original Outlast games are going down forever - 5 June 2025

Resident Evil 9 could be on the way. State of Decay 3 is also in the works. But while we wait for that next generation of horror games, now might be the time to finally take a visit to - or to revisit - Mount Massive Asylum and the Colorado Plateau. More than a decade since the original Outlast was released, developer Red Barrels has decided to cut the prices for all three of its original games. And this isn't just a temporary sale - from now on, Outlast, The Whistleblower, and Outlast 2 are going to be cheaper forever. At the same time, a new update for The Outlast Trials has just arrived. If you need more convincing, even now, some 12 years later, this remains one of the best-rated horror series on Steam. Read the rest of the story... • Makers of Outlast tease their next game - 31 October 2019

The intriguing image above was posted by developer Red Barrels very appropriately on Halloween, with a promise to reveal more soon. Red Barrels is the developer of first-person horror games Outlast and Outlast 2, but this tease doesn't necessarily mean we're about to get an official announcement about Outlast 3. Messaging about Red Barrels' next game has been mixed. Back in 2017, Red Barrels said on Facebook "We will, at some point, make an Outlast 3" but in the same post stated it was working on something else. "It won’t be a sequel to Outlast or Outlast 2, but it will be a distinct experience set in the Outlast universe." And in 2018, developer Phillipe Morin of Red Barrels said that Outlast 3 itself would be " a departure " from the first two games in the series.  So this definitely could be Outlast 3, but in a way that doesn't really feel like a…

  • Have You Played Outlast 2? - 7 December 2018

Have You Played? is an endless stream of game retrospectives. One a day, every day, perhaps for all time. I will never understand why Outlast caused such a stir back in 2013, more so after playing its sequel. I suppose I get why folks liked it: playing a videogame version of all those found footage horror films you either love or hate or love to hate, is a pretty nifty thing. But there were so many valves to turn, jump scares and unsurprising plot twists. (more…)

  • Next Outlast to be 'a departure' from series, set in same universe - 15 May 2018

I can't write about Outlast 2 without recalling Tim's ' charred baby pit ' preview headline, which perfectly captures the tone of Red Barrels' survival horror sequel. Pitches like that are a hard mould to break, I imagine, particularly when the series in question has sold 15 million units and has accrued $64 million.  Speaking at Berlin's Quo Vadis conference (via gamesindustry.biz ), the developer's Philippe Morin said despite his desire to do "something completely different" next, the success of the Outlast series is difficult to overlook. With this in mind, Red Barrels' next game will be "a departure" from its previous ones, reports GI.biz , but will be set in the same overarching universe.     "If you'd told me a year ago that the project we're currently working on was going to be our next thing, I would have said…

  • Outlast 3 will be made 'at some point', no DLC for Outlast 2, VR game could be in the works - 8 December 2017

Fans of the Outlast series were treated to a stack of news yesterday evening, all tucked into a post on the game's official Facebook page.  After declaring the series en route to Nintendo's Switch console in the new year, Red Barrels said it has no plans to extend number two by way of DLC in the immediate future.  On the latter, the developer said: "About the future, many of you have been requesting a DLC. While the first Outlast was made with the idea of a DLC in mind, that was not the case for Outlast 2. We’ve considered many options, but none of them felt appropriate for a DLC. Outlast 2 was created to make you feel like a rat in a maze, without any knowledge of what’s outside the maze." Red Barrels then points players towards the game's offshoot comic series as a means of plugging the narrative gap, before turning to the possibility of a third…

  • Boo! Outlast is free right now, and its expansion too - 21 September 2017

One of the better ‘peer through a camcorder viewfinder while hiding from spooky monsters’ horror games which shambled out of the early tensies, Outlast is free for keepsies if you grab it in the next two days. Hit the Humble Store before 6pm on Saturday (10am Pacific) and you can nab both Outlast and its prequel expansion, Whistleblower, in DRM-free and Steam key forms. This freebie is to celebrate the end of Humble’s summer sale, which I understand has a great many games going cheap. But not as cheap as free. (more…)

The Humble Store End of Summer Sale itself came to an end today, which means it's time for the Humble Store End of Summer Sale Encore ! Yes, seriously, the sale is over but is also still going on, which means you've got four more days to pick up some of those discounted games you were wavering on yesterday, and more importantly, to snag a free copy of the hit horror game Outlast and its Whistleblower DLC.  You should know by now how it works, but in case you've missed the previous sale freebie posts, it goes like this: Hit the Outlast Deluxe Edition page on the Humble Store. Click "Add to cart." Click "Checkout." Click "Get it for free." And just, you know, follow the instructions from there. You'll be links to separate codes for the game and the DLC, which have to be redeemed by October 7.  Outlast, by the way, is very good. Is it scary? "Hell yes," we wro…

  • Wot I Think: Outlast 2 - 24 April 2017

If you ve ever wanted to experience crucifixion from a first-person perspective, Outlast 2 will let you scratch that one off your bucket list. Moving away from the first game s psychiatric hospital, developers Red Barrels unearth another necropolis worth of horror tropes in a splatterfest about apocalypse, antichrists and clashing cults. The most frustrating thing about Outlast 2 is that it s few redeeming features deserve a far better game around them. …

  • Horror Fans: Outlast 2 Demo Is Out Now, Has Corn - 4 October 2016

The horror, said famous army colonel Walter Kurtz. The survival horror. Outlast 2 will have some of that, by the looks of things, and good news for impatient people who like to be scared: it has a demo out today. It s a short one at 10-15 minutes and will be familiar to anyone who saw the footage from PAX. But for those of you who were disappointed to hear about the sequel s delay into 2017 , it is something to enjoy in time for spoooooky Halloween. …

  • Corny: Outlast 2 Delayed Into 2017 - 1 August 2016

Ah, the early tensies! Cast your mind back to an era when a Slender Man lurked in every corner, crazed diary entries littered the streets, and Nicola Roberts was making a real go of a solo career. Of all the first-person stealth-o-spookers that followed Amnesia and old balloonhead, Outlast was one of the better ones . Following a touch of DLC, developers Red Barrels announced a sequel would follow in 2016 but… now that’s delayed. You’ll need to wait until 2017 to flee from a murderous religious cult. …

  • Red Barrels launches Outlast horror comic series - 18 July 2016

Red Barrels' scare fest Outlast 2 may stand as an indirect follow-up to its forerunner it s set in the same universe , but breaks from the first s show-stealing Mount Massive Asylum setting and follows a different cast of characters but a new five-issue comic book series aims to bridge the narrative gap between the first and second outing, the developer has announced . Following the exploits of the unscrupulous Murkoff Corporation, issue one focuses on how Chris Strongfat Walker wound up with superhuman strength and a disliking for pretty much everyone and everything that crosses his path. Walker, you may recall, is the recurring brute that stalks Miles Upshur in Outlast (and Waylan Park to a lesser extent in its Whistleblower DLC) but, besides scant info gleaned from the odd document scattered here and there within the hospital, the player is offered little explanation as to how he bec…

  • Have You Played Outlast? - 7 June 2016

Have You Played? is an endless stream of game retrospectives. One a day, every day of the year, perhaps for all time. As a survival horror fan, I was at first willing to overlook the asylum-set Outlast s stigmatisation of issues of mental health because it was a concept I thought otherwise sounded interesting. A combat-less scare fest that swaps Amnesia s gas lantern for a camcorder with diminishing battery power? That ll do me. But then I discovered its real horror: the batteries themselves. …

  • Outlast, Sunless Sea, Door Kickers and more in Humble Indie Bundle 16 - 24 February 2016

Else Heart.Break() I was burned out on Humble Bundles after the first couple. In part it was because my cup runneth over with games I've never installed and bundles contribute to Steam library shame in a big way. But there's also the fact that the quality is highly variable from one bundle to the next. Humble Indie Bundle 16 is obscenely well endowed. You can pay what you want for Retro City Rampage DX, Never Alone (a lesson in Inuit folklore) and horror spectacular Outlast along with 80% off its Whistleblower DLC . For paying above the average ($6.17 at time of writing), you'll unlock Trine 3 and Door Kickers , which was one of 2014's tactical surprises. The bundle comes just as Door Kickers 2 has been announced . Coincidence? Well, no, not at all, but it's still a great opportunity to see what the series is all about. Door Kickers It's $2 above the average price that the bundle goes f…

  • Boo! Outlast 2 Announced For 2016 - 29 October 2015

Outlast was one of the first shiny-polished horror games to rise from the growing trend for first-person unarmed spooky walkers in 2013. It was pretty good, Ben said when we gave him a pair of extra-strong pants and sent him into a spooky asylum . Developers Red Barrels today announced a second round of spookings for autumn 2016, though it looks like Outlast 2 will be headed somewhere quite different. Judging from the short teaser trailer and a few bits of artwork, I’m going to guess… a reclusive religious community in the American South, and perhaps a little The Hills Have Eyes -y? About this game

Hell is an experiment you can't survive in Outlast, a first-person survival horror game developed by veterans of some of the biggest game franchises in history. As investigative journalist Miles Upshur, explore Mount Massive Asylum and try to survive long enough to discover its terrible secret... if you dare. Synopsis: In the remote mountains of Colorado, horrors wait inside Mount Massive Asylum. A long-abandoned home for the mentally ill, recently re-opened by the “research and charity” branch of the transnational Murkoff Corporation, the asylum has been operating in strict secrecy… until now. Acting on a tip from an anonymous source, independent journalist Miles Upshur breaks into the facility, and what he discovers walks a terrifying line between science and religion, nature and something else entirely. Once inside, his only hope of escape lies with the terrible truth at the heart of Mount Massive. Outlast is a true survival horror experience which aims to show that the most terrifying monsters of all come from the human mind. Features: True Survival Horror Experience: You are no fighter - if you want to survive the horrors of the asylum, your only chance is to run... or hide Immersive Graphics: AAA-quality graphics give players a detailed, terrifying world to explore Hide and Sneak: Stealth-based gameplay, with parkour-inspired platforming elements Unpredictable Enemies: Players cannot know when - and from where - one of the asylum’s terrifying inhabitants will finally catch up to them Real Horror: Outlast’s setting and characters are inspired by real asylums and cases of criminal insanity Warning: Outlast contains intense violence, gore, graphic sexual content, and strong language. Please enjoy.

Steam marketplace comparison data

Price History Overview

USD uses SteamPulse's own locally recorded daily store snapshots, so this overview reflects the exact regional price history that SteamPulse has captured for this currency.

Coverage And Tracking Window

  • Snapshots: 1
  • Coverage: Oct 16, 2026 to Oct 16, 2026
  • Lowest observed: $14.99
  • Highest observed: $14.99

Outlast's USD price history spans from Oct 16, 2026 to Oct 16, 2026, with 1 recorded snapshot across 1 calendar day. Each row records the available final price, listed base price, and discount metadata for that observation. Within this coverage the lowest recorded price is $14.99, the highest is $14.99, and the first visible tracked price is $14.99. These comparisons apply only to the snapshots SteamPulse holds; missing observations can contain changes that are not represented here.

For USD, SteamPulse uses locally captured regional storefront snapshots and does not reconstruct older prices with exchange-rate conversion. The chart and table show the values recorded for this exact currency from the stated coverage start. Additional snapshots extend that record, but they do not fill unobserved days or prove what the storefront displayed between observations.

Discount Windows And Sale Timing

  • Discount windows: 0
  • Discounted days: 0 days
  • Deepest markdown: No discount tracked
  • Latest sale window: No sale window tracked

Outlast's tracked USD rows do not contain a discount window. This means no available snapshot in the stated coverage has usable discount metadata; it does not prove that the game was never discounted. Missing snapshots or archived rows without complete metadata can hide a sale, so SteamPulse does not infer pricing strategy from this absence.

If a later snapshot includes discount metadata, it will appear here with its recorded depth, price, date, and sale name when available. Until then, this section should be read only as a description of the available rows, not as evidence about the publisher's promotion policy.

Observed Price Changes And Stable Runs

  • Observed price drops: 0
  • Observed price rises: 0
  • Longest stable run: 1 day of uninterrupted daily tracking
  • Current run: 1 day of uninterrupted daily tracking

Outside rows carrying discount metadata, the tracked price has not recorded a separate price rise or drop yet. That means the observed undiscounted level has stayed stable across the snapshots SteamPulse currently holds. This is a statement about the recorded coverage only; it does not prove that an older or missing price change never happened.

The longest unchanged price stretch in the current record lasts 1 day of uninterrupted daily tracking at $14.99, from Oct 16, 2026 through Oct 16, 2026. Among rows without discount metadata, the longest unchanged run lasts 1 day of uninterrupted daily tracking at $14.99. The latest run records $14.99 for 1 day of uninterrupted daily tracking as the same recorded undiscounted price. Run lengths describe consecutive stored observations only and do not establish that a price is permanent.

Latest Snapshot And Sales Context

  • Current price: $14.99
  • Current list price: $14.99
  • Distinct observed prices: 1
  • Source mode: SteamPulse local tracking

The latest tracked snapshot records Outlast at $14.99 in USD, with no active discount metadata. Across the available history SteamPulse has recorded 1 distinct final price in this currency. This supports comparisons with the lowest, highest, and most common values present in the retained record, subject to the stated coverage limits.

The live sales view and Steam sales record provide calendar context for these dates. A date overlap can be compared with a named Steam event, but it does not prove why a publisher changed a price. As new daily rows arrive, this overview recalculates its observed prices, discount windows, and run lengths automatically.
