- Wings of Empire launching! - 17 April 2026
Wings of Empire is now live; Rome never fell, it conquered the stars. You were a Centurion in the Roman Legions before losing a leg to a plasma-bolt. Unwilling to give up you've retrained as a fighter pilot, and now set sail into the Dark. The long Pax Imperia is coming to an end, the cold war is turning hot, and somewhere among the stars you have a destiny to fulfill. With that it's sadly time to remove the game from the Development Branch of Morningstar, which has been it's home for the last 12 months. A huge thanks to everyone who helped playtest, report bugs and keep me sane-ish during development; I couldn't have made this game without you. Would you like to know more? - Wings of Empire launching soon - 18 March 2026
As some of you know I've been keeping Wings of Empire sitting on the development branch of Morningstar while getting it ready to go live. I do this for a couple of reasons, primarily because I love user feedback and having it live lets more people play it as I develop it. With Act IV finally done, that day's getting closer; I'm aiming for April 17th; I'll leave it up on the Development Branch until then, for anyone who wants to test it out. Right now it's about 2/3 done (working on day 75 now). If you haven't checked out Wings of Empire yet, it's a sprawling epic space opera set in a world where the Roman Empire never fell. You're playing an ex-Legionnaire who's transferred to the Navy after losing a leg in combat. As a fresh pilot you join the INS Aquila, a fast attack carrier heading out to a frontier world as the long Pax Imperia comes to an end. Like Love of Magic this is envisioned…
- Hotfix 1.1.2b - 5 October 2025
This is a hotfix to solve a security vulnerability in Unity discovered this week. No new content or other bug-fixes involved.
- Facial Fanservice Edition - 16 September 2025
I had some small bug-fixes and typos to clear out, Demonfox articles becoming available a day too early, that kind of thing. I figured I could do a quick pass and push a fix to main-line. Little did I know I was about to be ambushed.Lin is a scene stealer bar none; originally planned as an extra with no speaking lines, she ended up grabbing one of the 4 endings of Morningstar for herself. In this little update she also has two long Facial conversations with you, sending along plenty of images to keep you inspired until next time you see her. To access them, load the End of Game save, and make sure you finished Lin's Questline. Snowdrop is of course the original scene stealer; planned as one-off gag in Love of Magic she charmed herself into a recurring role, a military career and a cameo in Morningstar that ended up being about 5x as long as originally planned. Given a chance it is of co…
- Hotfix 1.1.0D - 26 April 2025
1.1.0D is just a quick hotfix to deal with achievements not triggering on the Steam page even though you cleared it in-game.
- Hotfix 1.1.0c - 27 March 2025
This is a tiny update, that sadly ended up being rather over-sized on disk :( So. What happened? Traditionally Unity sets all imported images as DXTC1 or DXTC5 compressed textures. These have a lot of advantages in terms of loading speed and in-memory size, but they are rather heavily compressed. That's a tradeoff we're usually fine in with Textures used for 3D images, but it can be an issue with 2D images (which is the way I'm using it). I made a test-case changing it all to lossless compression (so the images don't get any 'jpeg' style artifacts), and I decided it was worth doing that across all the platforms once and for all. I hadn't fully appreciated just how much work was involved in that :) So far, Love of Magic, Morningstar and Wings of Empire have all gotten the decompression treatment. Across 3 platforms (Windows, Mac and Linux), At 10-16 GB/platform/game (~200-250GB in total)…
- Game+ Update - 19 January 2025
I had dreams of a little Game+ mode. It would let you play past the end of the game, Initially inspired by Snowdrop's Movie Shoot (which spawned a couple of social media posts and a Demonfox article if you completed it), I ended up adding a bunch of post-game content more or less by accident. Snowdrop, Lin and Ciara all chime in on titter, and some different Demonfox articles trigger, depending on what ending and sidequests you picked. Most of them aren't related to the Path of Light (where New York ceases to be your problem), so I'd mostly recommend playing them with a save that's finished the Path of Fire + Lin and Snowdrop's side-content. Load the End of Game save, and you'll find yourself teleported back to the Last Drop and Day 115. You can complete various side-quests, test your match three abilities in the maze, and check out the new content. I had initally written a goodbye to L…
- Hotfix 1.0.5 - 22 November 2024
Tiny fix, but since it resolves a potential soft-lock I decided to promote it to the default branch. Basically you could get the game into a situation where you couldn't leave the room (NO_EXIT flag set), if you told Katie you wanted to do PT (which sets the flag, and places MC in the room), then clicked on Lin afterwards (which starts her sequence, not the intended PT converation). Small thing, but it solves the issue some people had with getting stuck. I also restored the ability to edit your fight-name in the Stats app, which had been accidentally removed. 1.0.5 - Fixed a bug that could leave the NO_EXIT flag on after a gym event - Fixed a bug where the fight name wasn't available to reset on the Stats app
- Collectibles available - 21 November 2024
You can't create community items (collectible cards, badges, wallpapers, etc) until you pass a certain threshold in sales. I think it's Valves way of ensuring people don't launch junk games purely for the collectibles. It's always fun to finally get a chance to make them; a sign that the game has cleared its first hurdle, and is now considered a "real game" :) The full set includes a badge, emoticons, 5 backgrounds and 11 collectible cards. Hopefully I've caught most of the issues people have found since launch; thanks to everyone who's helped report bugs, give balancing feedback and played the game. I still need to follow up on the Eternal Flame achievement, since that seems to not trigger for some people. Hope you've all enjoyed playing the game; I've certainly enjoyed making it.
- Hotfix 1.0.4 - 20 November 2024
This is primarily a Steamdeck release, which fixes the blocking text-input problem on the device. It also cleans up some font issues, resolved some spank-bank problems and fixed situation where you could skip night-time activities by playing the maze and exiting using the card, rather than the UI. 1.0.4 - Fixed some font atlases having dirty alpha channels - Fixed exiting the Maze at night using the end-card not triggering the night-time event if it is present - Fixed Treasure or Trouble not paying out a reward 1.0.3 - Fixed login screen on SteamDeck - Did a pass to regenerate the font-textures to hopefully fix invalid font-assets 1.0.2 - Typo pass - Fixed one of Lin's spank-bank scenes not unlocking properly, and another being a duplicate - Fixed text-entry on the Steam Deck
- Hotfix 1.0.1d - 18 November 2024
This bug-fix release mainly deals with a pretty bad bug that meant that you could break story progression by running the Maze at night (skipping any pre-planned night-time activities). Apart from that it adds some missing spank-bank entries, and cleans up some chunk-based achievements. 1.0.1d - Fixed a bug where it was possible to skip night-time events by running the maze or going to the shooting range 1.0.1c - Fixed a visual glitch with one of Geekboy's facial expression - Added a guard to stop the weapons UI breaking if there's an invalid skill associated - Fixes Emily's date 8 not saving to the spank bank - Fixed Ciara's day 98 event not saving to the spank bank - Fixed some typos in Quest descriptions - Djinn swaps out Vulcanic blast for Rage - Fixed Sophia's rest-stop conversation being repeatable - Fixed a bug where spending the timeslot immediately before a night-time event at t…
- Hotfix 1.0.1b (the Achievement Edition) - 15 November 2024
Small update to fix achievement issues some users have reported. 1.0.1b - Fixed achievments needing 1 additional point to unlock locally - Fixed Gym Bunny not unlocking cleanly (same issue as man of culture) - Fixed some clipping in the Erikson fight images
- Hotfix 1.0.1 - 15 November 2024
A huge thanks to all the players finding and letting me know about issues (and typos). This update deals with some achievement bugs people have reported (Man of Culture, specifically), some potential timeline problems (where things unlock out of order, or show up incorrectly on some paths) and some quality of life issues. Full build notes: 1.0.1 - Fixed an issue where rewind data isn't fully cleared between loads, which could cause issues combining loading and rollback 1.0.0h - Fixed an issue where some Scene Replay files wouldn't replay properly. - DSLR camera was showing cost of $300 in the app, but only cost $150 when you bought it. Fixed the app view so they're both $150. - Fixed Man Of Culture achievement, and added a fail-safe to validate it when you re-enter the Achievement UI 1.0.0g - Fixed forward skip not skipping past meaningful choices - Restored the old auto-skip functional…
- Hotfix 1.0.0b - 12 November 2024
A huge thanks to everyone reporting issues, here's a quick hotfix with all known issues resolved. Most of the issues are small, or quality of life improvements. One issue that some people reported was being able to skip the second half of Day 18s party (if you spoke to your Coach last); that's been tracked down and resolved. 1.0.0b - Flicker jab reduced in cost, increased in power - Fixed a bug in weight lifting achievement (should be at least 10x, not 20x) - Fixed an issue where you backspace twice while naming a character would auto-select the name - Stopped interacting with the underlying cards while the conversation is open in the Maze - Gun range practice now advances time - Stat tracker on your phone now gives more information about what the stats do - Fixed one of the calendar events overflowing the text box - Fixed a bug where talking to Coach last on day 18 would skip the final…
- Morningstar: Book of the Fallen launch - 11 November 2024
Morningstar: Book of the Fallen is finally done, well over 2 years after I first started working on it. You play as a young MMA fighter with a touch of supernatural blood, arriving in New York for a comeback fight, when you're confronted by monsters from legend, and the girls of your dreams. Morningstar has multiple endings, and several primary Love interests. Will you fall in love with an Angel on the Path of Light, or find passion in the Path of Fire, discover solace on the Path of Peace or reject love in the Path of Shadows? Martial Arts is one of the central themes of Morningstar; I wrote the first Act from Sumalee Boxing gym, a Muay Thai gym I was staying at in Thailand. I tried to inject some of the love I have for both Muay Thai and Boxing into the game; hopefully it's interesting to some of you, and maybe it will even inspire some to go spend some time in the gym. I hope you all…
