- Improved localization, optimization and more - Patch Notes - 23 October 2025
v1.2.63 Patch Notes: Improved localization: Some of the translations were a bit off, these should hopefully be corrected now. It's hard for me to be sure since I don't speak any of the translated languages :| If you have suggestions I am all ears! Improved optimization: The new map should overall be a lot more performant, especially the Mines, Lava area and the Junkyard which were pretty bad in prior versions. Save System update: Some players reported an issue after the intro text, the game would not load any further and got stuck on a black screen. This was a bug with the save system which should now be completely fixed. Please report if this is still happening for you!! Minor UI bug fixes. There are still a lot of things on my to do list! Stay tuned for future updates in the coming days! Cheers! /Ponty

I'm super excited to have teamed up with the godfather of the Foddian genre himself - Bennett Foddy and Isto Inc. We've created a bundle including Getting Over It With Bennett Foddy, Get To Work and A Difficult Game About Climbing.Bundling my game with the father of the Foddian game genre is obviously a dream come true and something I would have never thought possible when I was working on Punch A Bunch and crunching out videos (remember those lol). We've come a long way from those days and I feel like I'm more of a developer rather than a YouTuber these days... A youtuber needs to make videos I think..Anyways, check out the bundle, I'm very proud lol! Also, big announcement:A BRAND NEW EXPANSION for A Difficult Game About Climbing is in the works and nearing completion! I've spent over a year in secret working on it, making sure it's just as good as the first one and I've reached a poin…
- Mac OS release! - 16 May 2024
I've been working hard on getting A Difficult Game About Climbing running and notarized for MacOS. Apple has concocted up quite an elaborate process for making apps run properly on MacOS. As satisfying as it is to finally get the game running on Mac, Apple users can now experience the same satisfaction if not greater by finally attempting to reach the peak in this difficult game... about climbing... As always, please report any issues you may encounter in the official Discord Channel. See you up there climbers!
- General Improvements - Patch Notes v1.138 - 7 May 2024
Fixed a few things that have been on the TO DO list for a while but never made it into a patch until now. Added a button to reset your personal best time. Further improved the save system to minimize corrupted save files. Improved menu experience when using a gamepad. In Game Timer becomes visible (if turned off) for a brief period when finishing the game to assist with speedrun verification. (This only happens on runs AFTER you've completed the game at least once). Fixed some bad colliders. (Cloud colliders and extended blocking Ice on the right to prevent players from falling into the abyss on the last section.)
- A Difficult Game About Climbing is a difficult game about climbing - 30 April 2024
I'm not sure how I, a committed Getting Over It With Bennett Foddy fan, managed to miss A Difficult Game About Climbing. It is, like its obvious inspiration, a difficult game about climbing, but here you're using your arms independently to grip and hoist yourself rather than hooking and swinging a pickaxe. It is, also like its obvious inspiration, frustrating and moreish, like a scab you keep picking at. Read more
- Small Tweaks - Patch Notes v1.137 - 15 April 2024
Patch notes v1.137: Pendulum in the cogwheel tower has a more predictable pattern so no more "bad cycles". Clothes line should be less "crazy" when you reach it very quickly. Turned up physics calculations a little bit so that there are fewer "errors" in the physics engine which should lead to more predictable gameplay behaviour. Tweaked some friction values for certain objects (very minor changes).
- Hotfix - v1.133 - 7 April 2024
Small update with a couple of fixes: The "Pull Up" feature is being affected by the "Mouse Sensitivity" slider - this was actually unintentional, but since Speedrunners are likely going to want a more aggressive pull from their "Pull Up" command than casual players, and since speedrunners also tend to run their game on a higher sensitivity - this actually makes sense :) There was however a bug where if you reduce your sensitivity to the lowest - the "Pull Up" feature no longer worked, this has been fixed! Fixed small issue where the hand would "detach" from a surface if you push into it extremely hard.
- Gamepad Overhaul + Much more! - Patch Notes - 2 April 2024
Thanks everyone for continuously reporting bugs! I've been working non-stop to fix the most glaring issues. If your hands were pulling in one direction constantly - please update to the latest version and try again as this has now been fixed :) Having a Steering Wheel/Flight Sim rig or similar plugged in should no longer cause the player's arms to pull in one direction continuously. Big overhaul to Gamepad controls - Tweaked for better playability and added sensitivity option in the menu. You can now choose target frame rate (FPS) in the options menu. Other small tweaks include: Red balls in park are now frame rate independent. Added some particles when you grab the mushrooms :) Secret super gift should no longer trigger every time you finish the game. There were some issues when grabbing rocks under water - these issues have been fixed. Pausing during fade to black / fade from black wa…
- CTRL + R Bugfix - Patch Notes - 23 March 2024
Bug where initiating Quickrestart (CTRL + R) during pause screen would break the game has been fixed. Slight tweaks to the Quickrestart system which should fix other small issues.
- In Game Timer Added! - Patch Notes - 23 March 2024
Patch Notes: In Game Timer added! (You must start a new game for the timer to show up as time was not previously tracked.) Clear counter added! (Counts the number of times you've beaten the game). CTRL + R Now triggers a quick restart (only available after beating the game at least once). Added link to the speedrun.com scoreboard from the pause menu. Slightly altered the behavior of "Pull Up" command (W or Spacebar). Slightly stronger and now framerate independent. 🎁Giftbox might have been restocked for persistent climbers...👀
