Research Projects & Colony ImprovementsThis update brings Research Projects to Deep Space Directive, improvements to resource locations, improved lighting, and a collection of quality-of-life changes and bug fixes - more than a few of which have come from player feedback.Research ProjectsResearch Projects are now part of the game! They give the game more story and more progression! Buildings such as the Orbital Lift, Beam Tower and Space Elevator are unlocked by completing research projects. Currently there are 6 research projects planned with 4 currently available. World Generation UpdatesWorld generation has been adjusted to give resource tiles more surrounding terrain. • Patch: Connection Resource Display - 22 July 2026

An optimization gone wrong resulted in resources not displaying correctly on delivery connections between buildings. The bug has been fixed on both the demo and the early access builds of the game.

  • Performance Update - 15 July 2026

The version 0.21 update is focused at improving the performance of the game with larger colonies. The updates can result in a small FPS uplift, however the largest improvements targeted causes of lag spikes. For those pushing the edges of the tech tree and employing 100's of workers this should result in a smoother and more enjoyable game experience.

  • Tier 4 Tech Update - 25 June 2026

I’m very excited to finally have this update out and shared with players! It’s been a long time coming and brings both small and large improvements. The update introduces a new defensive building, new crystal variants, a revamped tutorial experience, the opening of Tier 4 technology, and, of course, a collection of quality-of-life improvements and bug fixes.Tier 4 Technology UnlockedTier 4 of the technology tree is now available! With it comes several new resources and the buildings needed to produce them. Among the newly added buildings are the Deep Mine, Chemical Plant, Foundry, Atmospheric Compressor, and the all-new defensive building: the Beam Tower.Revamped TutorialThe previous version of the tutorial could feel rushed, with multiple concepts presented to the player at the same time. While it was an improvement over the very first version of the tutorial, it frankly needed some lo…

  • Patch: Tutorial Fixed - 19 April 2026

Well that's embarrassing! The tutorial was broken, and maybe for far longer than I want to admit or know. My sincere apologies to those who tried the demo, and even more so for those who may have purchased the game and got stuck almost immediately. No excuses—it's my fault.👉👉This patch fixes the tutorial so that resources should now be correctly delivered to buildings and tiles during the first day of the tutorial.Other ChangesFixed: Issue where returning to the main menu was VERY slow.More fixes for importing resources via supply ship.Buildings now correctly "return" workers when powered down.Tweaks to market pricing. Intial drop from a large increase in supply is larger, but demand will also grow faster which should lead to more stablized prices as your colony expands. Please keep the feedback coming! The error with the tutorial was discovered because someone reported it. THANK YOU!…

  • World Map, Long-Range Transport, and More – v0.16 Preview - 2 March 2026

It’s been a hot minute since the last update! Even so, DSD is still 100% in active development, and the biggest update yet is close to being done!Much of the last few months have been spent working on the new World Map functionality. Initial prototypes took the game in one direction, but that direction proved to be unsustainable and very error-prone. But as they so often do, failures, constraints, and wrong turns became a source of creativity and led to an even better solution. What’s New?In the upcoming release, the world will be broken up into leasable sectors, allowing you to expand your industrial colony. Each sector will have a primary biome, defining both the look of the sector and the resources distributed throughout it. Need oil? Secure a desert sector. Need titanium? Head out to the rocky, barren sectors at the edge of the map.Overall world size and buildable area are currently…

  • Delivery Bug Fix - 30 August 2025

A recent update that included a fix for the issue where laser towers did not always fill their inventory with fuel cells was causing deliveries to sometimes stop. The fix has been reverted until a better solution can be found. My apologies introducing a big bug by trying to fix a small bug!

  • Transport Overhaul Update - 24 August 2025

The transportation update is here! Global storage is out and supply chains are in! This update fundamentally changes how you’ll design and optimize your colony. You'll need to plan carefully, connect strategically, and keep those workers fed and housed if you want productivity reports that won’t get you reassigned. New Transport SystemNo more global storage! • Updates: New WIP Game Systems - 11 July 2025

It’s always a bit scary to talk about possible or potential features, but that’s what this update is going to do. With the worst of the bugs and performance issues fixed and, if we’re honest, sales slowing after the initial release it seemed like a good time to turn my focus to potential future features for DSD. Not because the game is perfect and flawless, but because some of these ideas will help shape the solutions to other design questions. One of the earliest systems prototyped for DSD was a world map or galactic map. Some basic ideas were mapped out and functional, but after that the prototype was shelved for possible use in the future. And that time? It’s getting close. The current vision is to have the player start in a small and simple world. The world will have just the few resources needed to get the player started and learn the core systems of the game. Then! With enough reso…

  • More ships! More trading! More Credits! - 18 May 2025

This patch is all about the early game economy. Getting those resources shipped out and the tech credits rolling in faster and easier. This means more supply ships, increasing the transaction limit and letting the auto trader put in more orders. The patch also comes with a healthy dose of QOL improvements and bug fixes. New Features Added build +1 supply ship upgrade to the first tier of tech tree. More supply ships allowed per upgrade. Max number of market transactions now scales with the number of supply ships. Max number of autotrader transactions now scales with the number of supply ships. QOL Production tooltips now reflect game time, not real time. Directives now sorted by type. Range indication no longer shows overlapping ranges. UI scaling preference now correctly saving. Destroying partially constructed buildings now returns delivered resources. New crystals take longer to powe…

  • Performance Improvements - 8 May 2025

This update is all about performance plus some quality of life improvements. The game went through another round of optimization which should be very noticeable when the number of buildings is large. Load and save times should also be significantly shorter. With the shorter save time, proper auto-saving has been implemented. At the start of each day the game will now automatically save. Auto saving can be turned off and the save interval can be increased in the game settings menu. New Features Proper auto-save functionality. Resource amounts in resource tiles are now randomized within a range. You can now send save files from the load/save menus if you encounter an issue with game. QOL Much better performance for larger outposts with larger numbers of buildings. Player set game speed now resets at the start of a new day. Load and save times should be significantly shorter. Iron ore tile…

  • Version 0.1009 Update - 29 March 2025

Bug fixes! The latest build (version 0.1009) brings with it primarily bug fixes and one new feature to help with sharing bugs and providing feedback. In the save and load menu to the right of each save file is a new bug icon that will open the feedback form. When the form is submitted the log files and the save game file will be submitted. Hopefully this will lead to identifying bugs faster. New Features Bug Reporting: Share save files and log files from the save and load menu. Bugs Fixed Random crashing from the game scene - due to accidental loading of a save file. Missing build cost for some players should now be resolved. On a personal note, I deeply appreciate the support and patience of all of the DSD players. The timing of the game's release coincided with a significant family emergency. My ability to update the game and respond to bug requests was not what I had hoped. While I e…

  • Performance, Polish and New Upgrades - 22 February 2025

This update (v 0.1) has been all about improving performance, adding polish, building out the 3rd tier of the tech tree (full version) and of course getting ready for releasing Deep Space Directive into early access! The all new auto-trader can be unlocked in the 3rd tier of the tech tree - think of it as an assistant to help keep the credits flowing. Plus new special projects bring more progression to the DSD story and timeline! This build also brings with it all new voice over rendering! It’s been the most requested feature so far. It’s still not perfect, but much of the robotic-ness of the voices is gone and replaced with smoother and more natural sounding voices. The performance and quality of life improvements will be in demo and non-demo builds of DSD. Additional content is only accessible in the full-version. New Features 3rd tier of the tech tree! New buildings and new resource…
