Hello Cosmorists! It's been almost a full year since I last talked about what I was working on. That's on me. Side tangents Lack of action I worked on the game so infrequently lately that in some ways, I feel out of touch. Working on the same game for multiple years (since at least 2022), and having no clue what the game should be like aside from being a survival-crafting game and updating based on vibes, was not a sustainable game development loop. I focused on other things unrelated to game development most of the time lately, even though there's a smolder within me telling me to keep going because it's still in Early Access and not done yet. Progress was still ongoing, but it was very slow. It's as if I've "moved on" to something else. That's why the game has felt rather neglected for the past year. It's also why the Discord server doesn't work sometimes because I gotta admit, I'm no…
- Latest in Cosmorists - Sep 2025 - 30 September 2025
Hello Cosmorists! It's been a while since the last time I did this. I've been working on the game a lot less lately due to a lack of energy and lack of direction for where this game should go largely in August, hence, why I didn't post anything that month, as there wasn't much I've done. This month however, I did do a lot more this month than the last. I still have yet to migrate Aquatica's content to Tierra's oceans, or add an asteroid field like I mentioned in June, but it's still small steps! Item repair! When the next update eventually comes out, there will now be the ability to repair your items, as exemplified in this gif via a repair station where it's not just iron pickaxes that can be repaired, but any item with durability, where the required item will show up as transparent. This repair station is planned to be unlocked fairly early in the game, available after researching the…
- v 0.1.5.1 - Bug fixing patch - 6 August 2025
This build is v 0.2 in progress with the in-progress features and hidden content disabled, and there may be more changes than listed. Items Reduced the defense stat of most shields, and changed their durabilities. Increased damage on the Copper Sword and Tin Arrow. Bug fixes Fixed bug where breaking a furnace, stove, or other machine doesn't drop all their items. Fixed bug where sorting the inventory makes certain items disappear.
- Latest in Cosmorists - Jul 2025 - 31 July 2025
Hello Cosmorists! No updates were released this month, but the game's soundtrack has been fully uploaded to the channel, and some progress was made! Crafting manual Due to the lack of information in the early game relating to crafting recipes, a crafting manual will be in the next update, allowing players to see all the crafting recipes in the game, and unobtained items are blacked out! Sunset colors Now for a graphical change. Sunsets and sunrises will glow with a red-orange tinge before going dark in the next update! New shield stat: Hazard Shields also have a new addition: Hazards. This new stat blocks damage from environmental hazards, such as lava, poison, cactus floors, and hazards like it, although it doesn't block status effect damage! (Hazard icon indicated by the spike icon) Technical changes Most of these new changes were done in the first half of the month, but I've mostly b…
- Latest in Cosmorists - Jun 2025 - 30 June 2025
Hello Cosmorists! This was the month of v 0.1.5, or the On the Defensive update, alongside some other changes! Cosmorists OST Although I haven't been uploading the game's soundtrack every day lately, as doing the same thing with different tracks can get rather repetitive, I'm almost done with uploading the game's soundtrack. It's expected that the remainder of the tracks will be uploaded on the YouTube channel sometime next month at this rate! Technical implementation of shields (Math involved!) When a player gets damaged, a variable, which I'll call , is calculated with this formula below, with m as a constant, and x is the total armor of the player: will always be a value between 0 and 1, and the armor always has a minimum value of 0. Once is calculated, the damage taken by the player is multiplied by . E.g. The player gets 80 damage, and has 50 armor. is calculated to be 0.571, whose…
- v 0.1.5 - On the defensive! - 27 June 2025
Another month has passed since the last update, this time, the update brings a sense of defense to the game alongside other content! Shields! An update with "defensive" in the name certainly has something to do with defense. Introducing shields! With this update also come new inventory slots dedicated to shields. The number on the top left is a new stat: Armor! It determines how much damage is blocked by something physical, such as direct enemy damage or a projectile, and has no effect on damage taken by status effects such as Burning or Poison. (Note, Stone shields have 5 armor and 504 durability after a rebalance instead of 8 and 630 as seen in the screenshot) There are also several different types of shields as well for each ore, each giving varying amounts of armor to the player, and different durability amounts, and if an enemy damages the player, the shield absorbs some of it! Fun…

Hello Cosmorists! This is the month where the map was finally implemented into the game! There were a few bugs that I caught with it, such as the map UI unexpectedly crashing the game in rare instances. Uploading the game's OST Although this isn't as related to the game itself, I've decided to upload the game's soundtrack to my YouTube channel after a long time without any videos, with one track being uploaded per day with the goal of eventually uploading all tracks currently available in the game! It's likely that the month of June will have at one video uploaded every day on the YouTube channel in the form of the game's soundtrack given that there are 38 tracks currently in use, as well as 11 more that are now either unused or only accessible in old saves. Progress made so far This was mostly the month of implementing maps into the game alongside other changes. Those other changes wer…
- v 0.1.4.1 - A crash fix, and some bug fixes - 29 May 2025
Crash fixes Fixed crash where dragging the map around can sometimes crash the game. Bug fixes Fixed bug where saving the game in caves often have temperatures, ambient sounds, and/or music attached to the same position on the surface. Miscellaneous Modified the spawn frequency of all enemies in the lava caves, where spawn frequency is now mostly temperature dependent.
- v 0.1.4 - The Mapping Update! - 22 May 2025
It's been quite a while since the last update, and this is one that finally adds maps to the game, a feature common in other games like this one! It's a mostly minor update for anything not related to maps. Revealing maps! A greater sense of mystery has been added to the boundaries of your exploration after the spaceship is repaired! Note: Existing saves will automatically have the map unlocked regardless if the spaceship is repaired. Since the game didn't save which chunks have been explored before the update, existing saves will initially have empty maps, even in already explored regions. For new saves, it'll be locked and inaccessible until the player has repaired the spaceship, where a map icon flashes green at the bottom right corner of the screen to grab your attention, intended to let players know about the unlocked map! New tool animations! Although this update focuses mainly on…
- Latest in Cosmorists - Apr 2025 - 30 April 2025
Hello Cosmorists! I've largely been busy outside of game development lately, causing the relative lack of updates. Progress however is still being made, especially within maps! Increasing political activity as of late I won't go deep into current events, especially since this is about progress for my game. Just wanted to give a heads up to the recent slowdown. If you live in the US like I do, you might know that there's a lot going on. In response to this, I've been a lot more politically active outside of developing Cosmorists, such as attending peaceful protests. There's a likely chance for it to remain this way for the next 4 years as more events unfold here, which will likely cause a moderate slowdown for game development progress. Despite the political activity, I still made some amount of progress, especially on implementing a map into the game, and will likely continue to make pr…
- v 0.1.3.1 - Critical bug fix for new saves - 8 April 2025
Bug fixes Fixed critical bug for new saves where landing on another world changes the world size to Medium once saved. Existing saves however still retain their medium world sizes, even if the world size was small or large on creation.
- Latest in Cosmorists - Mar 2025 - 31 March 2025
Hello Cosmorists! This month brought another biome-based update for the desert caves! Some progress was made on adding maps, but I still have a ways to go before it's implemented into the game Unexpected saving bugs As I playtested the game myself, some more bugs relating to saving the game were still present, which led to v 0.1.2.2 and 0.1.2.3, and that postponed my attempt to add a map into the game. Map implementation attempt When I did attempt to implement a map, the technical challenges of implementing it weren't nearly as enjoyable. This is usually the outcome when I attempt to implement something that's challenging to do so, and has always been the case with some major challenge throughout the game's development history. This then made me work on another part of the game that I enjoy more, such as adding themed content to biomes that are still empty in content at the moment. Map…
- v 0.1.3 - Desert Cave update! - 19 March 2025
Hello Cosmorists! This is another biome-based update, but with a focus on the now previously lacking desert cave biome! It's a sort of antithesis update with the taiga caves, focusing on a hot biome instead of a cold one! Overhauled desert caves In the hot depths of the desert cave biome, some new content awaits exploration! There's a new hazard to look out here, as any cosmorist can step on some spiky cacti! In this danger lies an opportunity at a certain depth! An opportunity to harvest a new resource able to craft another set of tools! It's difficult to see in this nearly 100% dark image, but there are crystals subtly glowing here! A new set of tools exclusive to this biome has been added, and it does the opposite of the ones in the taiga caves! They increase the player's body temperature per use! Enemies + Cactus sprout Items Gadgets + Crystal of the Cactus (+15% melee damage) + San…
- v 0.1.2.3 - More saving bugs fixed - 6 March 2025
Bug fixes Fixed bug where the spaceship sometimes doesn't save when on another world. Fixed bug where the player's max health is set to the player's current health at the time of saving. Affected saves will reset the max health value to 120 if it's less than that. Fixed bug where furnaces, machines, and certain storage containers become 1x1 inventory slots when empty upon saving. Fixed bug where the inventory filter for furnaces that prevents items outside the crafting recipe from being inserted isn't saved, and loads without one. Fixed duplication exploit where items with a fractional quantity (such as 15 + 1/6), are multiplied by the denominator for each iteration (Becomes 91 when loaded) Other changes If there are no spaceships, and the save was last played on from v 0.1.2.1 onwards, the game will spawn one with a half-full fuel tank and at the maximum level at the player's home.
- v 0.1.2.2 - Tech tree saving fix - 4 March 2025
Another saving bug was found! For the same reason why spaceship data wasn't saved in v 0.1.2, so was tech tree data in v 0.1.2.1! Bug fixes Fixed critical bug where tech tree data isn't saved.
- Latest in Cosmorists - Feb 2025 - 28 February 2025
A slow month Sometime after the Verdant update, I was getting a little tired from working on the game after a period of creative highs focusing on one biome for a week. By the start of the month, I started to feel some burn out from game development after working on it almost every day for so long, so I took a roughly 2 week long break early this month, only checking the community for any bug reports every few days during that time, which is why I was mostly quiet for that time period with no updates except for bug and crash fixes, and why there were no videos on my channel being made. This one will be shorter than previous months. Right after my break, I focused on replacing the current way the game stores data with the new data structure, where I named it as an "object dictionary tree". Instead of carefully saving all the data in the form of byte arrays each time, the game will instea…
- v 0.1.2.1 - Critical spaceship bug fix - 27 February 2025
Critical bug fix! Fixed critical bug where spaceship data is deleted from the save file for new and existing saves after saving the game. A compromise on affected saves If you've tried out the update in v 0.1.2, and saved the game, all spaceship data has been deleted, and when loading the game again, the spaceship is gone, stranding players on the same world. If the game is still on v 0.1.2, refrain from playing any saves until the game updates to v 0.1.2.1. For affected saves, the game will add a spaceship at the player's position. If the player is in a cave at the time of saving, it'll add the spaceship at that same position, but at the surface. It'll be a maxed out spaceship with no fuel inside, and will appear on the compass.
- v 0.1.2 - The Taiga cave update! - 27 February 2025
Hello Cosmorists! This is an update similar to the Verdant update, but focuses on the taiga cave biome instead, which previously lacked content compared to other similar cave biomes! You might want to visit the taiga biome on Tierra, and visit their caves to experience the new content! Overhauled Taiga caves In the taiga cave biome, a lot more new and exclusive content awaits, as well as a fresh look to it! The taiga cave biome will also have variations between parts of the biome that are above freezing, and other parts that are below freezing. Here's an example of a part that's above freezing! Now for an area of the biome that's below freezing! If you're brave enough to go to some of the colder taiga biomes on Tierra, and go deep enough in their caves at around 15 layers deep that's still below freezing, you might stumble across wonders like this! A new toolset With this biome overhaul…
- v 0.1.1.3 - Another crash fix - 2 February 2025
Bug fixes Fixed bug where unplugged power icons can sometimes linger over iron drills that were removed. Crash fixes Fixed crash where placing an iron drill, mining it, saving, and returning can crash when returning to the cave layer and place where the drill was removed.
- v 0.1.1.2 - Drill crash and bug fixes - 1 February 2025
Another small patch for another crash report :) Bug fixes Fixed bug where launching from Aquatica still shows the water overlay texture mid-launch. Fixed bug where the compass UI is still shown when in the spaceship while holding a bronze compass. Crash fixes Fixed crash where saves containing electric drills can sometimes crash.
