- New trailer and Devlog - 29 July 2025
Hello again, acolytes of Tabal. We’re back with new updates on Catechesis and a special surprise for Yuppie Psycho fans.NEW TEASER TRAILERNEW DEVLOGDevelopment ProgressOver the past few weeks, we’ve been running private playtests of the first three dungeons in Catechesis. Feedback has been very positive, especially around progression and combat. However, the early difficulty curve was too steep, so we’re adjusting that to make the experience more welcoming. Whether you enjoy action or exploration, the progression system lets you tailor the game to your playstyle.Skill TreesThe skill tree is powered by demon blood, a resource earned from defeating enemies. It can be spent at Tabalist altars to unlock new skills and level up. If Daniel dies before using it, you’ll need to retrieve the blood from where you fell. Very similar to Souls games. Other collectibles like hearts, bones, and eyes i…
- Updates and Inspiration - 18 March 2025
Catechesis update 🙏 We’re still working super hard on Catechesis. Things are moving forward in areas like combat, where we’ve added some cool new enemies. (Did you know we’re aiming for 40+ enemies total?!) We’re also tweaking the UI, fleshing out the game’s story, and getting close to finishing some key story illustrations. Plus, we’ve started private alpha tests with a few close friends—they’re playing through about 60% of the game right now. This round’s all about testing combat, systems, and hero leveling, since those are the trickier spots for us. The feedback’s been awesome so far, and the gameplay’s already pretty lengthy. Honestly, we’re thinking the final game could hit around 15 hours—crazy, right?! That’s why it’s taking a while. We’re cooking up a detailed devlog for the next few months, so stick around for more updates. We’ve got a ton to show you! Catechesis Inspiration.…

- New Game Announcement: Catechesis - 14 November 2023
Catechesis Resurrects from the Dead on its 10th Anniversary Announcement! Ten years ago, we released a teaser trailer for our first project, Catechesis. It was a small horror game that adapted Resident Evil mechanics with cute pixel art. To our surprise, we received an enthusiastic response that led to features on well-known websites like Kotaku and Polygon. Our trailer garnered thousands of views and built a devoted following of people eagerly anticipating this pixelated survival horror game. It was the early days of the Indie Game Scene. (Art by @BarleyJuice ) However, as it was our first game, we ambitiously expanded its scope to the point where it became an impossible undertaking – a classic rookie mistake. Eventually, Catechesis was put on hold, and Baroque Decay shifted their focus to smaller projects like The Count Lucanor and Yuppie Psycho. Now, ten years later and armed with mo…
