- Graphics, Records & Major Quality Update! - 21 September 2026
Hello everyone!Today’s update brings a highly requested fix for the game, as well as new features and fixes. Read on to learn more and remember to share your thoughts in the comments to make sure we get your feedback for future patches. Some of the technology and insights from this work will also carry forward into the Super Cloudbuilt re-release. This update’s goal was to fix Cloudbuilt’s final long-standing stability problem, but it became much more than that. With this patch, the game looks better, loads much faster and runs more reliably. Even more, we’ve added a new Records System that makes competing much more interesting and accessible to more players. To achieve these improvements, we tested the game on various devices, integrated graphics, Steam Deck and performed automated stress tests that continuously load levels. Custom levels were particularly useful because they can push…
- Minor Patch - 6 January 2025
No major announcement this time—just a couple of quick fixes and tweaks following our recent larger update ːdeheadː: https://steamcommunity.com/games/262390/announcements/detail/546722128842458766 (EDIT: Did a minor addition fix and added it to this patch note as to not spam the news feed with minor stuff) Ending Cutscene Desync We sadly had a miss here where the cutscene animation for the endings played with game-speed-modified delta time, leading the non-competitive mode to play the animations slightly slower and thus de-syncing the sound effects and music. This ruined the experience of the endings. (It’s very unfortunate that we didn’t catch this before now... and it was big enough that I couldn’t just leave it and had to do this small hot fix patch.) Window Positioning The game window will no longer re-center itself every time settings are applied. Now it only does so when changing…
- Features & Quality Update! - 27 December 2024
New Features In addition to new language support, we’ve also added two significant improvements for those who continue playing beyond simply beating the game once. New Language Support We’re excited to announce that Cloudbuilt now offers full support for Simplified Chinese, thanks to the incredible help of JACKIEXIA! This update makes the game more accessible to Chinese-speaking players, providing a smoother and more inclusive experience. The new language option applies to menus, interfaces, and story text, making the game easier to navigate and enjoy. How to Select Your Language Automatic for New Players On first launch, Cloudbuilt will automatically use your Steam language settings, including Simplified Chinese if that’s your chosen Steam language. Changing Languages Later If you want to switch languages after your first launch, just go to Options > Game and use the spinner at the bot…
- Patch Notes - 24 August 2024
This update brings improvements to the game's reliability and user interface clarity. Texture Loading Reliability: We've enhanced both asynchronous and synchronous texture loading systems to better handle file access issues. If a texture fails to load, the game will now detect this and attempt to load it again later in the same frame. These adjustments ensure that textures load more reliably, even in cases where access might be temporarily disrupted. Rank Overview Display Improvements in Level Selection: The rank overview display in the level selection screen has been updated for better clarity: Levels you've cleared but do not have a rank in for the selected challenge mode will now show a faded D rank icon, indicating they are available for that challenge mode. Cleared levels that do not support the selected challenge mode will show a dark checkmark, helping you quickly identify which…
- Minor minor fix - 19 August 2024
Just a very small patch. Fixing an issue where you would always get the default skin selected after restarting the game. If you want some more details, here is an explanation: It turns out I introduced a new bug when I optimized the load speeds in one other other patches. The skin menu setup and initiation was big enough to be noticeable on my measures of the startup time, so I made it delay till actually needed. However, in doing so, I made a small oversight in the skin selection loading logic which assumed that the preview model for the skin was already setup. Which it was not in this case. Leading to the loaded value being ignored. Resulting in the player always getting the default skin after restart. That should now be fixed. For more proper info on the other recent patch, here is a link to that one in case you missed it: https://steamcommunity.com/games/262390/announcements/detail/…
- Quality and Smaller Feature Patch - 13 August 2024
We've just rolled out another update focusing on refining the gameplay experience with added features, important fixes, and some quality-of-life improvements. It was intended to just address two bugs, but as I saw some streamers playing, I noticed a few additional things I wanted to fixːdeheadː The big thing in this patch is the option to turn on rankings in the ‘Non-Competitive Mode’. So everyone who enjoys doing time trials and just wants to find some shortcuts, get a good run, and get scored on that can do that now without worrying about leaderboards, or the other aspects of the competitive mode. New Features: Ranking Support in Non-Competitive Mode: We've introduced an optional timer in non-competitive mode. Activating it will now allow you to see your personal rankings. This is designed for players who prefer to set personal challenges and goals without engaging with the competitiv…
- Patch: Fixes, Improvements, and UI Features. - 4 August 2024
New Features: Mouse Pointer Options: We've added support for both hardware and software mouse pointers. You can now choose from a variety of pointer appearances and adjust the mouse trail length to your liking. The hardware mouse pointer is enabled by default for faster response times. If you experience any issues, please switch to the software cursor. UI Improvements: Options Window: To make room for these new features, we've widened the options window and added a new UI-focused tab. Reorganized Settings: Settings under the game tab have been moved around for better accessibility, making it easier for you to find the important options. Old New Performance Enhancements: Startup Time: Initially, the changes increased the startup time by 1 second, but we've optimized it further. Starting the game is now approximately 40% faster. On my PC it now loads and starts in 5 sec. Loading Times: Ge…
- Quality Update - 19 June 2024
Level select UI Updates: Fixed an issue with the difficulty indicator which had malfunctioned due to a prior update. Now it’s fixed and more thoroughly tested. Resolved a problem where hovering over a level, releasing, and then re-hovering at a specific timing could cause incorrect UI elements to display. Corrected a bug that caused leaderboards to display incorrectly for levels that have not been cleared. Mouse visibility: I added a small mouse trail in the game when the mouse is visible. This is a countermeasure to a rare issue where some players were unable to see the OS mouse while in full screen. I have only heard and seen of two such cases, so it seems really rare. Though, as it is a pretty tough issue for such players, I wanted to add something simple which can indicate the mouse position even if you don’t see the actual mouse, as it should at least help a bit. (In case people wo…
- Small sound bug fix and UI animation bug - 2 May 2024
This is a minor patch fixing 2 bugs. Some sounds created from scripts didn't get their sample rate initiated correctly, so when they tried to adjust pitch they got bugged and turned off. This was so far only observed on the stationary charge boost sound, but this fix should address other cases too if there were any. When changing between challenge mode and non challenge mode on the level select screen through the hot key, the UI could get buggy at times. This should now be better. There might be a small pop, but the resulting state should be bug free. Thanks for reporting issues when you find them! It's thanks to the reports we can find and fix bugs like this. That's all for this time. Hope you enjoy!
- Render Style Setting Added - 29 April 2024
Due to a request, we just added a new setting to alter the render style. We know that some players dislike the cross hatching style and how it applies to the game. As it is a pretty strong effect and applies to large portions of the game, we can understand where they come from. In fact, this is part of why we added a bunch of rendering settings for Super Cloudbuilt. We just never patched in any such feature to the original game before now, which is something we really should have done earlier. This is nothing as fancy as the Super Cloudbuilt modes, but there are now 3 presets available. Default, which is like it has always been. Reduced Hatching, which removes most hatching, but keeps some of it on darker surfaces or shadows only. No hatching, which removes all of the cross hatching from the rendering. As always, if you have any issues with the game, don’t hesitate to let us know! Enjoy…
- Quality Patch - 14 April 2024
This patch addressed three bugs, added one minor feature, and one tweak to a level. First of all, the bugs. A bug when switching or using different sound devices was fixed. It appears there were some oversights when optimizing audio playback before. The sound device was not changed properly for all threads, and some sound resources also got buffered and reused, but did not get their device changed properly either. Making some sounds disappear completely when changing audio devices. There were many cases like this, but some examples include the voice lines played when returning to the room, some UI sounds especially in the result screen, and the player boost and weapon sounds. One more similar bug, is that the 3D audio device settings only got set up for the default device, so all 3D sounds would disappear or get low volumes when another device was used. I am surprised this was not notic…
- Quality Patch - 31 March 2024
Fixing reliability of leaderboards. This is a small one, but important. There were some issues with the reliability of leaderboards, especially in the custom levels. This update has overhauled some aspects of the leaderboards, making steps retry if they failed, and such things. I also added a bunch of thorough logging to quickly find issues if there were to be any in the future, and a leaderboard ID is displayed in the leaderboards at all times to verify its state. One issue was discovered in the level restart logic as well, where it for custom levels would reuse some logic used for the main game levels, and limit an index range incorrectly. Leading to leaderboards being disabled for custom levels after restart if you had more than 50 custom levels downloaded, and were unlucky. (Thanks ESin for the help identifying this!) If you have any issues with the game, don’t hesitate to let us kn…
- Smaller Quality Update - 13 January 2024
Some smaller patches to just improve quality. Achievement for clearing all fog levels were patched to also work on other modes than the competitive “regular” mode. If you have cleared the level in the non competitive mode, it should now also count towards the achievement completion. Another achievement for managing to avoid damage on the top of the tower in the level “escape” was patched to also work in the 2020 mode, and the non competitive mode. Before it required the competitive regular mode to work. Various texts/tool tips were updated to fix typos or bad spelling. The options menu popup descriptions are fixed to not be pushed under the bottom border of the screen, which could happen in some really wide resolutions when the text was long. (If you still find issues with this in your setup, please let me know what resolution you are using, and what text it happens on) That is all for…
- Minor patch - 7 September 2023
Nothing big to see here, the biggest change is that the controller support has been slightly patched in order to adhere to new Steam standards. Now, if you run the game in a level, and disconnect the controller in use, the game should open the pause menu. One tweak to the level select menu was also done to look better in wider resolutions. Finally, one the blood moon defiance level had some balance tweaks and some added hints. Nothing that should affect any leader boars, but it should help to teach the level and the mechanics in use just a bit better, and make two sections a tad bit less punishing. Also fixed lighting slightly on the fire level. EDIT: Uploaded a build again, as there were a miss in the level select fix. EDIT AGAIN: Fixed some scaling issues with the options menu in ultra wide, where the menu would stretch in strange ways, and get hard to read text. It's not perfect now…
- Minor level update & visuals - 21 August 2023
Based on watching a few player streams, and having seen an issue with one particular level for some time now, I finally decided to do a small update on just this level. There are no real new code changes in this update, it is just level updates on two defiance levels, and some updates to effect visualizations. Visualization Visual updates were mostly focused on draw order of some transparent effects, to make some things draw through and sort with clouds better, but the pulse gates also saw a bit of a larger change, where the particles used to indicate their push direction and strength got an overhaul, to better and clearer show the direction, and to render better with other transparencies. To me the new version here on the screenshot is a lot clearer, but it is even more so when in motion. Levels The level with the largest edit is the level "Desire", which has seen the first pulse gates…
- Quality Update & Editor Features - 11 August 2023
I know, I said in the last patch that it would be the final patch for now, but I was wrong. ːcbhunterː This patch however is a bit more limited in scope, mostly addressing bugs and stability of the level editor. This patch started as I was working on a community level, noticing a few small issues. It then grew a bit from these initial issues and includes some fixes for the main game as well. Mostly becauseI was watching a few Cloudbuilt streams as I was working on the patch, and just found some new bugs or things to address. (Special thanks to everyone who streams or shares videos of the game!) Also, with this patch I am also patching the Metroidvania custom level I made way back. It is now significantly updated, and also works to demonstrate a lot of the more recent features in the editor. It's now longer, more decorated, and has more proper bosses, multi stage boss fights, monster clo…
- Minor hot fix fix to the recent patch - 22 July 2023
For the full patch notes, check here: https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/262390/view/3687935862193994867 This hot fix is just addressing a spelling miss in a skin unlock text. If you know any other spelling mistakes, or translation issues, please let us know. Thanks!
- Quality Patch + Yet another new skin - 21 July 2023
This will be the final patch, for now. We made 2 more than initially anticipated, but there is no harm in more stuff! New Feature This patch improves various crash issues in the editor and two in the game as well, it also adds some new features to the custom levels menu. One of the more significant ones being the ability to see if there are new updates to levels, new levels, or even if you have lost one of your top spots on a levels leaderboard. All straight from the main menu. If the marker is: Blue, it means there are subscribed levels with updates on them. Green, means there are newly updated levels you have yet to subscribe to. (The levels are newer than the last time you opened the subscribe menu.) Orange, means you have gone down a position on a leaderboard on a level where you previously had a top position when you viewed or played it last time. Top positions means top 3, but if…
- Hot Fixes + One More Skin Again - 14 July 2023
This is a followup patch on the other recent one here: https://steamcommunity.com/games/262390/announcements/detail/3645149672588709938 This is just some hot fixes, patching some bugs in the editor that could cause various crashes. Some other minor tweaks were made for improved stability, and we also fixed support for more through logging, with options to help future debugging. Finally, the skin menu was arranged a bit, and one addition community levels related skin was added :) So in total there are two new skins now.
- Two New Unlockable Skins & Patches - 10 July 2023
EDIT: We followed up this update with some hot fixes, and yet another skin. Check the link at the bottom of the post for more details. We made another update sooner than we had though! This one includes various bug and performance fixes, which players so very kindly have been reporting to us. As an additional bonus, we added a new skin with this update! This skin is unlocked by playing custom levels, so we hope you all will enjoy this extra incentive to have some fun with each other's creations! (I will try to create and update a new level in the coming days too! I'm excited to create a level with the Survival tag! ːcbhunterː ) I'm tempted to show the new skin here, but I'll leave that as a surprise for when you unlock it ːdeboostː Here is a rundown of all the patch notes: Skins: Changed the skin that required your custom level to have a 100 clears, to only require 50 clears. Added a ne…
