We won't hide it, we're fans, but maybe it's a reference to something else? The mirror - a very feminist item, associated with girlish beauty and kindness. However, as is often the case in horror stories, such items are transformed into something dark. Do you think that will be the case here too? The burning dress - literally, or perhaps as a metaphor? You'll have to find out for yourselves. Add Threshold of Awakening to your wish list.

- What scares us in horror? - 31 October 2025
Almost all of our studio's productions are horrors. So it probably won't surprise any of you when we say that our team are fans of the genre. But what attracts us to them? What makes us choose stories that make our hair stand on end? What scares us in horror? Our tastes may differ, but one thing is certain: we don't like jump scares. That's why we avoid using them in our games. However, you can find in them many interesting themes and motifs, mentioned by the members of Astrolab. What storyline or theme are you most looking forward to in Threshold of Awakening?
- New York City inspirations - 24 October 2025
There are places that are more than just space. They are unique not only in terms of landscape or architecture, but also in the atmosphere that surrounds them. They form an almost living organism that attracts, stimulates the imagination, and inspires the recreation of this space in another form.New York City is one such place. The city is the setting for many classic works, including “Breakfast at Tiffany's,” The Godfather", and "Taxi Driver". Iconic places such as the Empire State Building and Central Park are easily recognizable even to people who have never been there, and the city itself has become a symbol of ambition, hustle and bustle, and romance. No wonder NYC is the setting for many classic horror movies. In “King Kong” (1933), Godzilla (1998), and Ghostbusters (1984) we can see monsters almost as big as the surrounding buildings walking down recognizable streets. We can not o…
- Call to the army - 17 October 2025
A call that blended reality into fiction. In the opening hour of Threshold of Awakening, Jane receives a phone call from Tibet. An ordinary ordeal today, but our game takes place in 1969. Was it possible for such a call to transpire? This question vexed us for weeks, until our Game Director vowed to solve it. He called any institution that might have knowledge on the subject, including a military unit. The endless calls continued until we had our answers.
- THE GRIEF - Astrolabe Stories' original comic - 14 October 2025
Astrolabe Stories is not only game-studio, we also work on a comics: New York, 1960s. Thomas is a small-time crook who forges documents at the port. The man has never stopped blaming himself for the loss of his son, who was taken by the sea several years ago. One day he gets an unusual assignment, which suddenly reveals a macabre truth...The comic is set in the same world in which our games: Last Threshold and Threshold of Awakening (in development). The plot draws from Lovecraft's mythology, but we wouldn't be ourselves if we didn't add something weird from ourselves. Here are some poster designs. Each of our concepts expose some crucial elements of our plot & dark mood. Can you guess what should you except?
- Between Tibet and NYC and fascination of 60's - 10 October 2025
From the very beginning, Astrolabe Stories' goal has been to tell unconventional stories. Stories that explore the intersection of emotions or extremely different worlds, which, when juxtaposed, reveal the truth about human nature. It was this theme that led us to New York in the 1960s. For history and world culture, it was a time of protest, rebellion, and exploration, but also a time of various crises around the world. That's why we decided that this time and place would be perfect for our story. From the very beginning, we were fascinated by the contrast and the journey we would take the player on. On the one hand: New York – a metropolis that never sleeps, loud and energetic. On the other: Tibet – austere, mystical, detached from the Western world, immersed in spirituality with its fascinating history. This leads us to the key question: what will the encounter between these two worl…
- Mark and the CIA in Tibet - 7 October 2025
What does it take to change one’s mind?At first we thought that making Mark, Jane’s lost husband, a CIA agent, would be cliché. But fortunately, during our research on the game we stumbled upon a treasure trove of information. How a few hundred pages of paper and ink changed our perspective. What sprang this sudden change of heart?Declassified documents of CIA’s involvement in Tibet during the 1950s and 1960s.
- Gods from the roof of the world - 3 October 2025
Almost everyone has heard of Buddhism. Its practices have infiltrated Western thought in various ways through elements of meditation or tantra. The case is different with the more mysterious variety of this religion - Tibetan Buddhism. Deciding to create a game set mainly “on the roof of the world”, we inevitably had to face researches on this subject.Spoiler alert: it was not an easy search!Buddhism spread more widely in Tibet in the 8th century, when the beliefs were recognized as a state religion. However, the various regions of Tibet were highly isolated from each other, so Buddhism developed strongly independently within them, drawing on cultural influences from China, Nepal, Bhutan and Mongolia. Buddhism also intermingled with ancient Bon beliefs and Indian Vajrayana. The complicated origins and even more difficult terminology meant that we had to make a decision: how religiously…
- Tibetan uprising - 30 September 2025
In 1950, the People's Republic of China began annexing Tibet to its territory. Tension was rising in Lhasa. In early March 1956, the Dalai Lama received an invitation to a “theatrical performance and tea” at a Chinese army headquarters. News of the invitation quickly spread among the people, who, fearing that their leader might be abducted, surrounded the Dalai Lama's palace to prevent his capture. This took place on March 10, 1959.Two days later, the streets of Lhasa were filled with protesters declaring Tibetan independence. On March 19, fighting began. Norbulingka and important Lhasa monasteries were shelled. Thousands of Tibetan monks were executed or arrested. Chinese authorities punished Tibetans who had any weapons in their homes with death. Nearly 86,000 Tibetans were killed. The Dalai Lama and more than 80,000 Tibetans emigrated to India where they were given refuge. Between 195…
- Molding dreams into reality - 26 September 2025
Molding dreams into reality is what we artists do.The mind is a powerful tool. It can create countless stories and images only visible by those who dreamed them. But with a bunch of black strokes on white paper, we can give tangible shape to intangible thoughts. Manifesting them in reality. We dreamed of Tibet, and here are our thoughts given shape.I wonder what else we can manifest?Art by Karola Lewicka
- Lovecraft inspirations in the media - 24 September 2025
Born on August 20, 1890, during his lifetime, Lovecraft's stories were not widely known. However, over time, his work gained popularity and became firmly rooted in pop culture. This was undoubtedly influenced by numerous inspirations from the Cthulhu mythology.Stephen King has mentioned more than once how Lovecraft's work frightened him in his youth. The king of horror hid many references to Lovecraft's work in his early writings. We can read about the book De Vermis in “Jerusalem's Lot” or the character Yog Soggoth in “Needful Things”. In comics, perhaps the most popular reference is the name of the psychiatric hospital from the Batman series - Arkham Asylum. In Lovecraft's stories, Arkham was the city where many of his works took place.Moving on to cinema, the appearance of the aliens in the film “Alien” was heavily inspired by H. Giger's paintings depicting descriptions from the myth…
- The sunken city R'lyeh - 16 September 2025
Deep beneath the surface of the Pacific Ocean lies a sunken corpse-city. Built eons before recorded history, R'lyeh is the prison of the sleeping Cthulhu. The discovery of this place was described by the protagonist of one of Lovecraft's stories, Norwegian sailor Gustaf Johansen: “a coastline of mingled mud, ooze, and weedy Cyclopean masonry which can be nothing less than the tangible substance of earth's supreme terror—the nightmare corpse-city of R'lyeh... loathsomely redolent of spheres and dimensions apart from ours.”Furthermore, the city's architecture makes exploration and escape impossible. The structures are colossal and seem to be likened to non-Euclidean geometry - a system that deals with curved spaces rather than flat ones. In R'lyeh, changes in perspective can be observed, causing uncertainty as to what is vertical and what is horizontal.
- Jane nad Jane Fonda - 12 September 2025
We needed a good role model for Jane, our protagonist. So when it came to seeking inspiration for Jane, main character in our game we looked to her namesake. And so a renowned actress and activist, Jane Fonda, became our muse. As a homage to her, we included a creation Jane Fonda wore in one of her movies inside Jane’s closet. Can you guess which one?
- Cthulhu - the most famous character from Lovecraft's myths - 9 September 2025
The most famous character from H. P. Lovecraft's myths, Cthulhu, the Priest of the Ancient Ones, sleeps in the underwater city of R'lyeh. However, this does not mean that we are safe. The monster can haunt people in their dreams and cause nightmares. Thanks to this activity, it maintains the faith of its cult on Earth. It is described as a beast with an octopus head and a body with indistinct anthropoid shapes. In addition to a large number of tentacles, it also has sharp claws and dragon wings. When the planets align in the right position, Cthulhu will rise from its tomb at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean and destroy the world.
