Last year's Lords of the Fallen reboot is getting a sequel, as its publisher CI Games signs a deal with Epic . As reported by Polish website Bankier , a recent filing from CI Games has confirmed that Lords of the Fallen will be getting a sequel in 2026. Quite notably, and potentially controversially, the filing was specifically about the fact that CI Games and Epic Games have signed a deal guaranteeing the latter exclusive rights to the Lords of the Fallen sequel on PC. There are a number of PC players who flat out refuse to buy games on the Epic Games Store, so we'll have to wait and see how that pans out for CI Games when the sequel eventually arrives. Looks like Game Pass subscribers will be able to play Lords of the Fallen and Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2 at some point this year. News of the entries comes from developer and publisher CI Games. Available today, the 1.5 Master of Fate update is the culmination of over 30 patches released since the game’s launch last October. The latest round of free content for Lords of the Fallen has been released, and it celebrates a rather interesting character. Called The Way of the Bucket, the content forms part of a series of events scheduled throughout the holiday season. Along with a new quest, the content features a corresponding weapon and armor set, six new spells, and performance, stability, and optimization enhancements. Lords of the Fallen developer Hexworks clearly thought you were all having too nice of a time, so the game's most recent patch has made a number of bosses tougher. With a genre like soulslikes, you can test your game as much as you want, but you can't ever really be certain about how tough a boss should be until the game is in the player's hands. Lords of the Fallen has been out for almost a month now, and it has already received some tweaks , but its latest patch will definitely amp up the challenge a touch. For example, the Sanctified Huntress boss can now use her dash-teleport when you've cornered her against a wall, so that trick's down the gutter. Griefbound, alongside her minions, are also more aggressive now, meaning you'll probably need to be a bit more alert. These days, you can expect Halloween events in spooky games, wholesome indie games, as well as live service games that will jump on any and every opportunity to sell $20 skins. But it's rare for the type of game that Lords of the Fallen is - Souls-like action RPG - to host its own. Lords of the Fallen is not, of course, devoid of any horror. Its Umbral world of the dead is full of body horror and all manner of horrific creatures, but this Halloween event brings some of that action to the world of the living. In celebration of the release of the big 1.1.249 patch today (out now on PC, later on consoles), the developer is kicking off a limited-time in-game event. It's live now until November 2, and it introduces a new quest, and some themed decorations in the world of Mournstead. Read more

Spider-Man 2 clearly hasn't sucked all the air out of the proverbial October room when it comes to big releases. Lords of the Falen , a smaller game by comparison, managed to sell 1 million units in under ten days, 54% of which were made on consoles. Though the comparison seems a little pointless at this point, it nonetheless took the original Lords of the Fallen (from 2014) seven months to reach 900,000 sales . The modern Lords of the Fallen is a visual benchmark for Unreal Engine 5 , with interesting tweaks to the Souls-like genre like the dual worlds mechanic. Though its general reception was better than the original, the overall verdict was a little mixed, with many reviews, including our own , lamenting its erratic difficulty spikes and performance problems. Things clearly move very quickly in the world of game development, and that's especially true in the case of Lords of the Fallen . Just days after the developer addressed a major point of criticism, saying it will remain as it is, things have already started to change. Starting with patch 1.1.224, which went live today. One of the more contentious aspects of Lords of the Fallen has been enemy density, and their seemingly limitless ability to continue chasing the player for the entirety of a level. My time with Lords of the Fallen started out very positive, but it was disheartening to see my opinion on it turn the more of it I played. It’s a game with some genuinely brilliant ideas, and a high-level vision of how to set itself apart from other Souls-likes. But that vision did not seem to have been shared by everyone on the team. Lords of the Fallen is a Souls-like . If you played any of those before, you immediately expect a few basic features. Combat is stamina-based; heavier weapons/attacks use up more of it than lighter ones. Your rolls and dodges rely on the same stamina pool, and you’re given ranged options in the form of throwables, weapons like bows, and magic spells. Wither damage is one mechanic that’s not very common among those games . Lords of the Fallen hasn’t had the smoothest launch. Though it previewed well , got a lot of credit for how beautiful it looks , and received a good selection of scores when the review embargo lifted, CI Games’ loyal take on the Soulslike genre has come under fire from some sectors of the internet. There were performance issues on every platform , but Xbox users had it worst, thanks to the fact the game shipped with an outdated build. Initially, developer HexWorks put out a statement to let players know that the Xbox version will be updated "to bring it to parity with other platforms." But, as we’ve been reporting on this game, we’ve seen a couple of comments on our articles saying that players were ‘eager to get refunds’ for the Xbox version. - Lords of the Fallen's animators had some fun mocaping animations from their backyards - 16 October 2023
As a Souls-like, Lords of the Fallen 's animations will be judged harshly by players in the saturated genre. Boss animations in particular tend to get the most attention, because of the amount of work that goes into them, as well as their relevance for players going through the game. Hexworks developed the game mostly remotely, and that included the period when everyone in the world had to work from home. But animators seemingly were the most creative at navigating that new reality. Phil R. is a 3D character animator responsible for animating the bosses in Lords of the Fallen, and mocapping various animations for creatures in the game. Lords of the Fallen has officially been out for a few days, and the initial reception from players has been fairly negative. Although there's a lot to like about Hexworks' first project, not least just how next-gen it looks , the main problem everyone seems to be running into is just how poorly it runs. Performance woes affect PC, PS5, as well as Xbox Series X/S - though the extent to which they do on each platform varies. On Steam, the PC version started out with a Mostly Negative user review rating, though it has since gone up to Mixed , so things have evened out a bit.
