- Libretro Improvements, Drag & Drop Fix - Client Update 2/21/2026 - 21 February 2026
Hey everybody! This update focuses on improving Libretro support, improved local MP3 playback, a fix for drag & dropping images into items in the world, and a Tube Head achievement fix.Improved Core CompatibilityCores that require OpenGL are now supported! In Libretro, several of the gen-5 & newer consoles require OpenGL hardware acceleration support to run, and even some older consoles have the option to use OpenGL to improve performance or offer extra features. Now all that is automatically supported. To go along with OpenGL support, AArcade has been updated to the newest libretro.h from the RetroArch GitHub repo. And the support for the various feature #defines offered by the newest libretro.h has been greatly improved. I tested at least 2 cores for each major console (when available) and only came across 1 that didn't work. You can access the Libretro Properties menu at Main Menu > S…
- Image Loader & Game Mounting - Client Update 12/11/2025 - 11 December 2025
Greetings! Today’s update features an improved image loader, fixed game mounting, fixed Steam store game spawning, and more!Improved Image LoaderIn the past, the image loader had trouble working on certain sites which meant you had to try multiple image URLs before finding one that’d work. Today’s update resolves this by implementing SteamHTTPRequests as a fallback for loading images less-than 10MB. This means that pretty much any image URL you throw at it will be able to successfully load the images as textures in-game! (The UI menus may still have trouble displaying images from certain sites, but they’ll work on the in-game objects regardless.)Fixed Game MountingIt turns out the old way that AArcade detected mountable game’s install paths relied on the user having taken the Steam survey at least once, which resulted in many people needing a custom gameinfo.txt in order to mount their…
- Redistributables Update 1/27/2025 - 27 January 2025
Today's update just expands the vcredist and directx redistributables to work on a wider range modern systems. Microsoft has depreciated some of the older redistributables, so today's update tries to bring things back up-to-date to address some issues some users were encountering. These changes don't have an impact on actual gameplay, but may help some users avoid errors when launching into the game. Added were: - DirectX June 2010 - Visual C++ Redist 2010 Plus the already existing one which was: - Visual C++ Redist 2013
- Pet Bug Fixes - Client Update 1/3/25 - 3 January 2025
Today’s update contains several bug fixes, mostly related to pets. Change Log Added a notification when you click the Add/Update Pet button. Fixed a bug that made you have to BE a pet in order to see the Add/Update Pet button in the Build/Transform Menu. Fixed a bug that caused the transforms in the Build Menu to apply to your current pet even if it wasn't the model you were adding/updating. Fixed a crash bug that occurred on maps that used scaled models (especially on entity rigs.)
- Pets & Outfits - Client Update 12/31/2024 - 31 December 2024
Today's update adds a basic & customizable Pet System that lets you turn any model into a pet that can follow you around, or you can become the pet & use it as your own avatar. You can also create outfits for the pets by attaching models to them. Play as 5 Classic Characters (at the same time) You can play as the pets - so to start you off there are 5 default pets you can spawn & play as from the classic set of AArcade NPCs: Hacker Haley, Fit Frank, Timbo Tyson, Cowboy Carl, and Zombie Joe. They each now have unique idle, walk, run, and fall animations. (Plus swimming, dancing, & a few more.) So they are well suited to show you how the pet system works. But the real fun comes when you setup your own custom models to be pets. Pets can be any model in your library, but to look good they need idle & run animations. Some things (like floating droids) don't need any animations at all to look…

- Hotfix Client Update 3/2/2024 - 2 March 2024
Today's small update fixes a bug that caused web content - such as YouTube videos etc. - to often fail to load. (Temporary hotfix until the issue itself is resolved in Steam.)
- Grab Mode & Radial Menu - Client Update 2/10/2024 - 11 February 2024
Object Grab / Inspect Pick things up & hold them very close to your face. Rotate & move them w/ mouse or joysticks. This is what the new Object Grab command in the Tab Menu > Commands tab lets you do. They go back to where they were when you let go of them. Here's the details on how to control things you grab. Gamepad Left Analog = Move X/Y Right Analog = Rotate LT/RT = Move Up/Down Start = Exit Inspect Mode Hold LB = Carry Mode Keyboard & Mouse Left Mouse = Rotate Right Mouse = Move X/Y Middle Mouse = Move X/Z CTRL + Right or Middle Mouse = Move Rotation Origin CTRL + any 2 mouse buttons at the same time = Reset Rotation Origin Hold SHIFT = Carry Mode The default rotation origin is the center point of the model. Sometimes models have weird center points (like if they have invisible bones.) So that's when you'll want to use the Move & Reset Rotation Origin stuff. When you're in Carry Mo…
- Client Update 5/3/2023 - Avatar & Import Fixes + Vehicle Preview & Stickers - 3 May 2023
Greetings! Today’s update is a variety pack of small improvements, plenty of fixes, and a new console command to test out upcoming Source engine vehicle system support. Multiplayer TV Head Avatars The avatar images of other people are now fixed on the menus & in-game, so now you’ll once again be able to know who you’re lookin' at just by lookin' at 'em. Singleplayer in our own worlds are where most of us spend our time, but you can always try clicking the small Multiplayer > Servers button on the main menu to find other worlds, or host your own world that you’re in. ːfallingmanː When exploring as a multiplayer guest, remember to have patience as things load in. For the best experience, it’s good to not click the OK button until after it looks like all the objects have finished spawning in. And check your Transfers Tab (by holding down TAB button) to watch as custom assets load in - to u…

Hello everybody! Today's small patch is to fix a bug with the createItem menu that interacted with the YouTube API for fetching video titles etc. This patch fixes the issue & will allow YT videos to spawn as normal again. Note For ReShade Users If you love using ReShade.me, like I do, then you'll notice that AArcade client updates reset your ReShade settings & you have to re-update to the newest ReShade version from their official site. Here are the instructions to manually update your ReShade if the process is new to you: View Instructions on HackMD Change Log: Fixed a bug w/ the createItem menu that caused YT videos to fail to fetch their title etc.
- October Update News - Client Update 10/5/2022 - 5 October 2022
Hello all! Today's update adds a new camera mode (called Auto Director), the ability to save screenshots of in-game tasks, improved previews for Archive.org shortcuts, several bug fixes, and the ability to use short low-res MP4s as always animated images on cabinet screens! Always Animated MP4s (+improvements) You can now use MP4s on items the same way you use normal Always Animated Images. Remember - images & MP4's that are always animating are also always loaded in memory (when visible), so for good performance it's important to only use short, low-resolution MP4s. Seeing a room of arcade cabinets in AArcade all w/ video clips dynamically on their screens is like a dream come true for me. :) To help you create good MP4s to use, there is a short tutorial on how to do it using Gyazo here: https://hackmd.io/@smsithlord/H1fdj8T-9#How-to-use-MP4s-as-Always-Animated-Images Also in today's u…
- Client Update 12/24/2021 - 24 December 2021
Merry Christmas & happy holidays arcaders! Today's small update fixes an old issue w/ the leavers in HUB maps that would cause them to randomly crash when pulled. :S It also adds the ability to have a confirmation message displayed when you customize items w/ drag & drop. (You'd have to turn it on first in Main Menu > Settings > UI tab > Drag & Drop Item Update Confirmation.) This particular feature was a request from the last AArcade Meetup event we had. As always, if you need any help or just want to connect w/ myself & the community, you are invited to join us in the AArcade Discord: https://discord.gg/9FSCDuJ Party on! Change Log Fixed instability of levers in hub_ maps. Added an update item confirmation menu that gives you a chance to cancel your drag & drop item update. Added Drag & Drop Item Update Confirmation to the UI tab of the Settings menu. Added a scroll bar to the UI tab…
- Web Browser Hotfix - 21 November 2021
Hello arcaders! This update fixes an issue that was causing in-game web tabs to crash AArcade when they were opening up on the newest version of the Steam Client. This hotfix should avoid the issue for now w/ only the small side-effect of the 1st frame rendered onto web tab cabinet being weird. If the next version of the Steam Client doesn't fix the root cause of the issue - I'll add in some code to fix this side-effect as well. Party on, y'all! Change Log Patched a bug where the Steamworks web browser was misbehaving during the rendering of the 1st frame of a new web tab sometimes. (By skipping the rendering of the 1st frame.)
- Avatar Menu & Spin The Wheel - 30 October 2021
Greetings arcaders! Today's update adds an easier way to pick the avatar you want, the ability to randomly choose a media item, and several bug fixes. Avatar Menu The new Avatar Menu makes previewing & changing into your favorite avatar models easier. This is a feature for the more advanced users - because in order to use it, you must first build a favorites list of models that work as your avatar. Next, go to the Commands Tab (F7) and use the Avatar Menu command. That will open up the Avatar Menu & show a random selection of avatars from your specified favorites list. It's important to only have avatar models on the favorites list that you use, so you don't turn yourself into a burger or something. :) Also, remember it's a random selection of models from the list each time. So if you have a long list, you won't see *all* of the models *every* time. But you can just close the menu & re-…
- Always Animating Images - Client Update 10/12/2020 - 12 October 2020
Good morning arcaders! Today's update adds the ability to spawn always-animated images such as GIFs, WEBPs, and PNGs! Just in time to spice up your Halloween builds with some spooky GIFs. To mark an image as Always Animated, just look at its object and press the Always Animating Image button on the Commands tab! This feature is still in phase 1, so it has a few bugs still, but is very usable & stable. If your GIFs start acting nuts, hold down TAB and close the Always Animating Images task. It will auto-reload the GIFs. The other limitation is that always animating images do not sync in Multiplayer yet. These will be improved in the future! Happy Halloween everybody & have a great time! You are invited to join us in the Discord if you have questions or just want to show off something you've built. :) https://discord.gg/9FSCDuJ Change Log Added Always Animating Image to the commands tab.…
- Quest & Dialogue Builder - Client Update 8/18/2020 - 18 August 2020
Today's update introduces the new quest system! You can now build RPG-style quests complete with branching dialogues! This means your builds can tell a story in an interactive way & guide players around your worlds. This first phase of the quest system includes the EZ Quest Builder. It lets you create "Collect Coins" or "Gossip" quests quickly & easily. EZ Gossip Quests Gossip quests are the most versatile. When the player interacts with your quest object, they are given an interactive dialogue. Gossip quests can be used for talking to characters, interacting with terminals, or simply to provide commentary or inner monologue to the players. EZ Collect CoinsQuests Collect Coins quests are exactly as you'd expect. Spawn a bunch of **any** model you want the player to collect. Then middle-click on any 1 of them, go to Advanced > Quest and choose the Collect Coins template. Interactive Dial…
- IRL Clocks, Steam Invites, & Stat Counters - 14 July 2020
Today's update adds LED displays that can show various stats on them! It also adds analog & digital clocks that can display the date & time in various ways! Steam invites to MP sessions have also been improved. And last but not least, AArcade's ability to pack & sync assets has been improved. Display Stats on Number Signs There are 3 new props you can spawn that show you stats on them. You can control which stat they show by using their skin slider when placing them. The Local Stats Number Sign shows you the amount of objects in your current instance, or the number of items, models, or maps in your library. The Global Stats Number Sign shows you the # of players who are currently playing AArcade, how many hours we - as a community - spent in-game in AArcade yesterday, or how many YouTube videos we - as a community - watched in AArcade yesterday. The MP Stats Number Sign shows you how ma…
- Featured Servers & Twitch Embeds - Client Update 6/14/2020 - 14 June 2020
Greetings! Today's update revamps the Online & Featured panels on the Main Menu to show a wider variety of servers to explore! It also improves support for viewing Twitch streams, videos, & highlights in a nice embedded viewer. Community News I hope you're all doing well! Just a reminder that you are all invited to the official AArcade Discord to hang out, chat, lurk, or connect with other AArcade users & myself! Discord Invite Link: https://discord.gg/xtPSqy8 We had our meetup & field trip the other day & visited a massive arcade in the expo map built by Intruso. (The meetup & field trip happens every 2 weeks by the way!) Thanks to everybody who attended & thank you Intruso for all those nice museum-like text cards that explained your design process in each area! Here's the Twitch VoD of the meetup & tour if you're interested: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/647730444 Also I used the new…
- Minor Fixes - Client Update 6/2/2020 - 2 June 2020
Today's minor update adds new skins to the Hologram & Blend cabinets w/ animated & audio responsive materials. It also fixes a bug w/ spawning individual games from the Steam Store Wizard. Change Log Added 10 new skins to the Hologram & Blend cabinets that have material animations (some are audio-responsive as well.) You can access them from the Transform Menu > Skins tab while positioning an object on a Hologram or Blend cabinet. (Note that these material animations work best on images that have black backgrounds along their edges.) Added the console command "removejunkobjects" that clears all cheers & junk objects from the world. Added support for slideshow URLs to be used in the Preview field of items. (However, you have to manually paste in the URL from a regular Slideshow item's file field for now.) Improved Look At Me behavior to look at the view entity, not the player position. F…
- Showcase Mode - Client Update 5/18/2020 - 18 May 2020
Hello arcaders! Do you love what you've built in your arcades? Today's update adds a new Showcase Mode camera that allows you to showcase your creations with ease! Fly-through cameras & before/after renders are now just a button press away! There's also a plethora of fixes, improvements, and small additions packed into this update. Full change log below! Showcase Mode The new Showcase Mode uses your screenshots that you've taken of your arcade on the F5 Screenshot menu and uses them as camera path-points to do fly-throughs, camera fades, or even before & after comparison renders. First, you'll need to have at least 1 screenshot taken in your arcade. I suggest taking a handful of them so that the camera has a few to cycle between during the showcase. Next, you hold down E to go into Showcase Mode. Your camera will automatically go to the nearest screenshot position and start the sequence…
