- July 2026 State of Play - 29 July 2026
Greetings Pathfinders! It's been a while since our last update, and we're incredibly grateful to everyone who's continued to follow Pathfinder: Abomination Vaults on this journey. Today, we have an important development update to share: the game is now planned to launch in 2027. We know this means a longer wait than we originally expected, but giving the team more time will allow us to deliver the quality, polish, and experience that both you and the game deserve. To show you what that extra time has been spent on, we've put together a new developer update featuring Executive Producer Pierre Leroux and Creative Director Wyatt Gray. They take you through how far the game has come, showcase brand-new environments and gameplay, and share a behind-the-scenes look at work in progress development. We hope you'll watch the video below as we're excited to give you a closer look at what's waiting…
- Floors 1, 2, 10, Alternate Outfits and Belcorra! - 5 May 2026
Hail, Pathfinders! The Gauntlight stirs, and so do we. In this update, we share our progress on three distinct levels and their creative process. Grab your torches and let’s get started!Floor 1: Fogfen Ruins (The Mitflit Camp)First, we’re thrilled to share more progress on our levels, starting with the Mitflit Camp in the Fogfen Ruins. For the Mitflit camp, we wanted to create something that feels tribal and sloppily put together by these mischievous creatures! With hoarded junk scattered throughout the camp, items gathered from nearby peasants and adventurers. We also took strong inspiration from the mitflits’ love of insects and their ability to control and raise them. This influenced the overall architecture of the camp. We wanted it to feel almost insect-like, with elements of bug parts incorporated into the design.Conveying their mischievous personality was key and led to the idea of…
- February Playtesting Results - 27 February 2026
Greetings, Pathfinders! This month, we put the early game and overall user-experience to the test with two focused playtests diving deep into both singleplayer and multiplayer experiences. We wanted to see how differently the game feels depending on how you jumped in and gather targeted insights on how the onboarding, pacing, and overall sentiment shifted between solo and co-op play.Responses were good, too! We’re already seeing areas of improvement reflected in the total score for how people felt overall. But what really mattered to us were things like the controls and how easy it was for first-time players to pick up the game. We collected even more insights this round, analysing over 20 players per group and generated 300+ data points, including detailed info on how each hero was played. Here is a quick progress update to show you what we learned!First Time User Experience (FTUE)These…

Greetings, Pathfinders! We hope you’re having a fantastic January. The team here at BKOM are continuing to work hard at bringing the Abomination Vaults to life. This month we’re sharing environment progress on Floor 6, new UI for selecting Floors, and a new animation for one of Amiri’s special attacks! The Fleshwarp Laboratory Deep into the Vault on the sixth floor lies the Fleshwarp Laboratory. Here, the Seugathi Fleshwarpers perform horrifying experiments on their subjects. Some come willingly, seeking ways to augment their strength, while others are reduced to living corpses for wicked research into the art of crafting perfect soldiers. In the further depths of the laboratory, Jafaki toils in his chambers, refusing visitors until his dark work is complete. Until then, the Warped Brew Tarven welcomes those seeking refreshment as they await their turn on the operating table... Here are a…
- The Arena, New Outfits and Playtest Results - 19 December 2025
Greetings, Pathfinders! This week we’re delving into the never-before-seen concept behind the Gladiatorial Arena and Barracks on Floor Five! Dare you pass through the tunnel into the stadium and face some of the toughest enemies yet?We are also revealing design concepts of alternate outfits for each of the iconics, and the results from our recent closed playtest! Floor Five: The Arena Long ago, Belcorra constructed a mighty arena for her army. What might appear on the surface as a place for her troops to test their mettle or settle their differences, hides a deeper truth. It would be a proving ground, where the scheming Seugathi could test their latest creations in action... and gain ever more meat for their endless experiments in flesh. For our heroes, floor five is centred around brutal pit fights in this very arena. To venture deeper into the Vaults, you must enter the arena and becom…

Hail, Pathfinders!Who are the Iconics?Beneath the haunted depths of Gauntlight Keep, four of Golarion’s iconic heroes make the leap from tabletop to video game, ready to fight, explore, and forge their own legends. Amiri the Barbarian, Harsk the Ranger, Kyra the Cleric, and Ezren the Wizard are the beating heart of your adventure. Each hero features unique powers, personalities, and playstyles that combine to create a symphony of steel, spellcraft, and tactical opportunity. In this blog, we’ll introduce these iconic heroes, explore what makes them special, and reveal how their teamwork can turn even the darkest dungeon into an unforgettable adventure. Why were they chosen? When we set out to bring Pathfinder: Abomination Vaults to life, we wanted players to live the story as they fought through the dungeon with characters whose personalities, histories, and archetypes would shine through i…

- Enter the Abomination Vaults - 30 October 2025
Hail, Pathfinders! The Abomination Vaults Adventure Path was the perfect choice for our first Pathfinder ARPG. Its sprawling mega dungeon, memorable bosses, and tightly packed encounters are tailor-made for action combat and exploration. We sat down with Creative Director Wyatt Gray (WG) and Art Director Jonathan Dufresne (JD) to discuss why the team chose Abomination Vaults, how its narrative and design support fast-paced gameplay, and what it was like bringing this legendary Pathfinder adventure to life. Adventure Path Selection Q: What initially drew the team to Abomination Vaults? WG: Paizo allowed us to choose any Adventure Path. We explored a wide range, then narrowed it down to “mega-dungeons.” With Paizo’s guidance, we shortlisted five standout options in their history. Q: Were other Adventure Paths considered? Why choose this one? WG: We considered Emerald Spire, Thornkeep, the…

- Tabletop to Hack and Slash: Level Design - 30 September 2025
Hail, Pathfinders! Sharpen your blades and ready your spells, the Abomination Vaults await. Built nearly 500 years ago by the sinister Belcorra Haruvex, this sprawling dungeon is filled with traps, monsters, and secrets waiting to be uncovered… and we’re bringing every dark hallway and haunted chamber to life in-game.In last month’s Tabletop to Hack and Slash entry, we ventured into the Darklands to meet the mysterious Caligni. This time, we’re going straight into the Vaults themselves, revealing how the rooms and encounters from the classic Adventure Path are being transformed into fully realized, playable spaces. For this feature, we’re focusing on Floor 8, showcased in our Gameplay Trailer earlier this year, to give you an inside look at how our team approaches level design. We sat down with Creative Director Wyatt to discuss how the process works, from early sketches to final encount…
- Progression Systems are Progressing! - 19 September 2025
Greetings, Adventurers! Gold jingles in your purse and glory swells in your heart, but the greatest reward is the strength you carry forward. Today, we’re pulling back the curtain on some of the systems that let your heroes grow mightier as they conquer the depths of the Vault. These are early design drafts, so expect a few tweaks along the road! Hero Level We’re excited to unveil the next stage of your journey into the Abomination Vaults! As you venture deeper, your party will grow stronger with each challenge you overcome. This, of course, is represented by levelling up! We plan to utilize a "milestone" progression system, in which the heroes level-up upon defeating each floor's final major encounter or boss battle. Upon level-up, each hero immediately receives a handful of benefits:Stat Increases: Each hero receives an HP increase reflecting their class’s natural hardiness, as well a…
- Tabletop to Hack and Slash: The Caligni - 22 August 2025
Hail, fellow Pathfinders! One of our favourite parts of developing the game is translating Pathfinder 2E’s rich lore and crunchy mechanics from “Tabletop format” to “Action RPG viable”. We want to take you along this journey to show just how we’re staying true to the beloved source material. Today, we’re starting with the strange and mysterious inhabitants of the Darklands: the Caligni. - Wyatt, Creative Director at BKOM Immersion and Understanding We began by digging into the Caligni's tragic history. Once people of the mighty Azlanti empire who reigned over Golarion, they fled underground millennia ago to survive the cataclysmic Earthfall. In desperation, they made a pact with malevolent demigods known as the Forsaken, who transformed them into resilient and merciless subterranean dwellers capable of surviving the Darklands. As part of the deal, when a Caligni dies, they combust in a…
- Sneak Preview: Skeletal Hulk and Vordine - 18 August 2025
Greetings, adventurers! We're taking a closer look at the enemies currently in production: the Skeletal Hulk and the Vordine. We're also sharing a preview of a blog coming later this month that goes into depth on the Caligni. This is the first of a series where we share our approach to taking content from the Pathfinder table top game and translating it into our hack and slash ARPG. Enjoy!Skeletal HulkThe Skeletal Hulk is an imposing and terrifying enemy, typically encountered after the bones of a giant enemy or multiple smaller ones reanimate. In our game, the Hulk is an enormous mini-boss encountered deep within the Vaults on the fifth floor. Our vision for bringing this lumbering monstrosity to life meant conveying it's devastating size. When the Heroes face it for the first time, it will feel like an unstoppable force.VordineThe Vordine are enemies faced even deeper at floor seven. P…

- Pathfinder: Abomination Vaults Preview — A Co-op Delight - 25 June 2025
I nabbed an appointment for Pathfinder: Abomination Vaults at Summer Game Fest 2025, having quite literally no idea what I was jumping into. One of my friends said it was like D&D, and I was dreading the possibility of turn-based combat—it’s just not my thing. But once I started my co-op session, it became clear that Pathfinder: Abomination Vaults is much closer to Diablo than anything else. Whether you’re playing solo or with friends, it looks like this game has something special going for it. Pathfinder: Abomination Vaults is indeed Dungeons & Dragons based , after the Abomination Vaults Adventure Path. Well, it’s actually based on something that’s based on D&D —it’s D&D inception, really. But I guess every RPG has some Dungeons & Dragons inspiration deep down, so here we are. Alright, that is it for the D&D talk. On its own, Pathfinder: Abomination Vaults is a hack-and-slash ARPG, wh…
