Damian here! Long time! Just wanted to step in to announce that for the first week of the Steam Summer Sale (between June 25 - July 2, 2020), we'll be donating part of the proceeds to the Toronto Chapter of Food Not Bombs. If you already own the game, this is a great time to gift the game to a friend or two! Food Not Bombs is a decentralized organization with groups all around the world. There's very likely one near you! They serve healthy vegan meals, no questions asked, free of charge, to anyone who comes by, using food they've sourced from grocery stores, bakeries, or just community donations. RPS is having an Apocalypse Day! We’re celebrating the end of the world and games about it. Check back tomorrow, if we’re still all here. The Yawhg is a game about what happens if the end of the world is coming but you don t know that, and thus don t care, and carry on doing whatever it was you were going to do anyway. Would it help? Would it matter? Would you survive? It’s a PC game but plays like a board game, almost. There are four characters who take it in turns to do different things around the town (six weeks before the apocalypse = six turns per character), and you have to pick at least two. You can play alone, but fun with a friend is fun doubled, so I played The Yawhg with Colm Ahern from VideoGamer. (more…)

A look at some our recent Game of the Year winners—Spelunky, Metal Gear Solid V, Dishonored 2—suggests that baked-in narratives are less important to us than personal stories plotted by physics and AI. That's broadly true, but not to the total exclusion of videogame storytelling, of characters and dialogue and, to give an overarching definition of what we mean by 'story' in this case, 'sequences of events which may be influenced by the player but are not authored by them.'
