- Dawnsbury Days 4.43 (additional duplication hotfix) - 18 September 2026
Improves the deduplication hotfix so that it removes also duplicates of your held weapons in some cases.
- Dawnsbury Days 4.42 (item duplication hotfix) - 18 September 2026
Yesterday, patch 4.40 introduced a game-breaking bug that caused all items in your hands and backpack to duplicate after every encounter. I am extremely sorry for this bug. Unlike bugs that merely cause a crash, this one filled your inventory with extra items, which is not just annoying but also upsets game balance in a way you can't easily fix.FixThis patch attempts to fix the situation as best I can.First, items will no longer duplicate each encounter. If you notice that something is still duplicating sometimes, please let me know.Second, the game will attempt to "fix" any saves made between the time the 4.40 patch went live and the end of today (September 17 — September 18) when you first load them again. All duplicated items in your inventory will be stashed off into a special "duplicated items" bag of holding, leaving you hopefully with your original inventory, or at least somethin…
- Dawnsbury Days 4.41 (item duplication hotfix, part 1) - 18 September 2026
Fixes that each time you win an encounter, all items in your hands and that you're carrying are duplicated.I am extremely sorry for this regression which was introduced in yesterday's 4.40 update. This patch will not remove your items from your inventory, it will just prevent further duplication. I am now working on a patch to fix existing inventories as well.
- Dawnsbury Days 4.40 (magic items update) - 17 September 2026
This update adds some more items. The one I had particular fun with is rod of wonder. Admittedly, it's not particularly useful in combat, but if sometimes you don't feel like thinking too hard, you can fire it up, roll a d100 and let the RNG gods take the wheel ^^It also adds some famous effects that are easier to implement in the engine now but that I couldn't dream of earlier when I went over spells to implement initially:The update also fixes some bugs, including some crash bugs.Full patch notes:Character content:New items: rod of wonder, grievous runestone, quenching runestone (+ greater, major), crown of the fire eater (+ greater, major), armbands of athleticism (+ greater), pendant of the occult (+ greater), eyes of the eagle, eye of the unseen (+ greater)New specific magic items: wasp guard, breastplate of command, literary robes (+ greater, major, true)New spells: globe of invul…
- Expansion status and new achievements - 16 September 2026
Hello everyone, this is an update on the upcoming expansion to Dawnsbury Days, The Four-Leaf Clover. This expansion takes places over 6 character levels (level 10–15), and is a high-level world-spanning adventure where our heroes take the fight to the enemy in the hope of ending the demonic invasion once and for all.A cRPGThe expansion Is longer than all existing content combined, and I'm becoming comfortable calling it a true full cRPG:Grand scope: It has an involved storyline with 80+ characters, 3000+ spoken lines (compared to 660 lines in the base game), and 70+ encounters, many of which are actually multi-encounter exploration mapsNonlinearity: While there is still a largely linear main storyline, you now have a much larger number of optional sidequests. You can also sometimes choose between various ways of accomplishing your mission, do it with various degrees of completion/success…
- Dawnsbury Days 4.39 (Steam Workshop Uploader hotfix) - 31 August 2026
Fixed a regression introduced in 4.38 that caused the Steam Workshop Uploader program to not start.
- Dawnsbury Days 4.38 (Four-Leaf Clover balancing, ...) - 31 August 2026
This update includes a number of rules fidelity fixes and minor technical improvements. The most significant bugfix involves a restored integration with Steam on some Linux environments. The bulk of this update (100 lines of the following patch notes) focuses on improvements and balance updates to the encounters of the upcoming Four-Leaf Clover expansion in response to feedback from a private playtest. The expansion is not yet available for a public playtest, though you can wishlist it already.A Patreon playtest of the expansion will begin soon. A playtest that involves the wider community will also happen, though only after the last chapter is completed (currently, the expansion contains only 5 out of the 6 planned chapters) and after voice acting is in, so that will still take some time.Full patch notes:Features:Added hidden keyboard shortcut H: Hold H to hide the currently spoken line…
- Dawnsbury Days 4.37 (mature animal companion crash hotfix) - 11 August 2026
Fixes a regression introduced in 4.36 which caused the game to crash if you had a Large animal companion in some encounters.
- Dawnsbury Days 4.36 (material grades, Dragon Disciple, fixes...) - 10 August 2026
Features:Rules fidelity: Material grades. Cold iron, silver, and adamantine now have three different tiers: Low-grade, standard-grade, and high-grade. All existing materials were converted to low-grade materials which only work on weapons of level 8 or less. When you upgrade to a weapon of level 9 or greater, the material will stop providing any benefits until you upgrade it to a higher-grade material which costs significantly more gold. (This rules fidelity feature is necessary because the cost of precious material is a significant component of your wealth in tabletop, and if Dawnsbury Days ignored it, it would result in player characters having outsize wealth, and the switching of materials would be more of an annoying nuisance than a strategic decision.)Visuals: The parchment color scheme becomes the default for all players. The new parchment color scheme has received overwhelming su…
- Dawnsbury Days 4.35 (Retrain Anytime staging hotfix) - 23 July 2026
Adds a new houserule option: Allow retraining and shop at any time. You can enable this to get retraining and shop access at any time, including during short rest. (This update sets the stage for a rewrite of the Retrain Anytime mod, which has an unfortunate interaction with a recent Dawnsbury Days update that causes the game to always flip back to adventure path view whenever you make any change in your party inventory.)
- Dawnsbury Days 4.34 (Android mod fix, miscellaneous, ...) - 23 July 2026
This patch fixes an incompatibility between "SF2E Ancestries" and "Android Ancestry" where if you were subscribed to both, the game would fail to start. Now instead, to be an android, you can choose either mod as your base, and then pick feats from both mods as you take ancestry feats.Full patch notes:Character content:New spells: spout, quenchNew items: staff of water (greater, major), staff of fire (greater, major), paralytic poisonArt:Encounters (S7E2): Made the portal effect prettier (thanks, Qwert!).Balancing:Tactics: Fixed that enemies using area attacks (cone, line, burst, and emanation) considered Large and larger creatures multiple times when determining the value of an emanation.QoL:QoL (grappled): Escape now displays success chance directly in the caption.QoL (sickened): Retch now displays chance of success.Rules: Attack of Opportunity now uses the new reaction popup, allowin…
- Dawnsbury Days 4.33 (venomous snake hotfix) - 17 July 2026
Fixes a regression introduced in 4.32 where the Venomous Snake (maps: S2E2 and Obelisk 1) never Strikes. Full patch notes: Tactics: Fixed a regression where creatures with a poisonous attack and level -1 would never choose to Strike. Crash: Fixed that if you pressed Ctrl+X or Ctrl+C in a textbox while having no text selected, the game would crash. Feats (Canny Acumen): Fixed a regression introduced in March 2026 where selecting Canny Acumen sometimes didn't give you the proficiency increase. Tactics: Adjust the oslyuth's action choices to be a bit smarter. Tactics: Fixed how determining the best move for a computer-controlled creature to take works with creatures of level -1. Text: Fixed issues with some rules blocks.
- Dawnsbury Days 4.32 (10+ QoL features, 80+ bugfixes and rules fixes, balancing) - 14 July 2026
Features:Advanced search. You can now filter feats, spells, and items in the character editor and in shops with advanced syntax such "lvl:7+ trait:consumable".Inappropriate feats marked and ranked down. Feats that you can't use because they're for a different weapon loadout are now marked with a warning icon and placed farther down on the feat list. (For example, if your fighter wields melee weapons, the Double Shot feat will be marked down.) You can disable this feature in Settings->Interface.New cheat: Conjure an ItemCharacter content:New rogue feat: Twin DistractionQoL:Character builder: The advanced alchemy page listbox and inventory listboxes will no longer reset shop filter, scrollbar position, or expanded item group when you move an item.Classes (Kineticist): When you have 11 or more impulses, they will now display in smaller size so that they fit better on screen.Free encounter…
- Dawnsbury Days 4.31 (The Fifteen Obelisks update) - 25 June 2026
This update adds 15 new encounters to the free encounter mode, one for each character level from 1 to 15. These are simple combat encounters with minimal story. They're available in free encounter mode and are intended to be a kind of white-room encounter experience where you can quickly test out your party at various levels. The encounters are all Severe on Medium difficulty, Severe or Extreme on Hard, and always Extreme on Insane. You are expected to "go nova" on each of them and use your highest-level spell slots first. To play encounters 10 to 15 with custom characters prior to the release of the Four-Leaf Clover expansion, you'll want to subscribe to the level 20 unlock mod. (We're still implementing more spells and class feats for levels 10–15 but you should have a good amount of options available already, and of course, you can always take lower-level feats and upcast lower-level…
- Rejection of the use of AI - 15 June 2026
Dawnsbury Days doesn't use, has never used, and will never use AI as a matter of principle. This post is for two reasons:to assure players that Dawnsbury Days is developed entirely by humans and doesn't use AI anywhere in its production, so that you can feel safe that you're not supporting AI, if that is a concern to you;to give some emotional support to other developers with similar attitudes to AI, to show that they are not alone, in an industry that increasingly pivots to being centered on the use of AI.In my view, human creativity embodied in natural activities such as drawing, painting, acting, writing, and imagining, is an important part of the human condition, and is something to be cherished. Generative artificial intelligence threatens the creative industries, and further, threatens the ability of humans to use and enjoy their creativity. The creative expression one makes when in…
- Dawnsbury Days 4.30 (balancing and technical staging update) - 8 June 2026
This is a bit of a miscellaneous update so I had a hard time naming it ^^;Major notes:Fixes rules engine crashes related to using group movement with Large creatures.Enemy casters will now select spells to cast a bit more intelligently, and will select targets for multi-target spells such as electric arc a bit better to maximize expected value. The save DCs of some enemy abilities will now scale more properly if the enemy's numbers were scaled by difficulty. Some abilities still have imperfectly set DCs and will be fixed in a later patch. Overall, this will mostly make the Easy and Medium difficulties a bit easier, and the Hard and Insane difficulties a bit harder, but overall not by much either way, I think. The Final Dusk (the final base game encounter) has been a notable difficulty spike. This update reduces its damage resistance on Hard from 5 -> 2, and removes it entirely on Easy and…
- Level 10–15 expansion development progress (June 2026) - 7 June 2026
Three months ago, I announced the development of a level 10–15 expansion for Dawnsbury Days. Today, I want to give you an update on how that work proceeds!(This post shows some characters and locations, but doesn't spoil any plot twists.)First, the first 3 out of 6 chapters are now written and implemented, and as I wanted, they are very varied in terms of what enemies you fight, and what biomes you fight in.From the magical forest of Arborea......through the skies above the Frozen North......to the jungles of the Blooming South, and to more biomes besides!Overall, we're now up to 30 encounters — more than the entire base game, and more even than the Profane Barrier, and that's just from the first 3 chapters, and we still have 3 more chapters to go.And these are often large encounters, whether with waves, exploration, puzzles, or other special features. So the amount of content is vastly…
- Dawnsbury Days 4.29 (armor property runes) - 27 May 2026
This update mostly introduces armor property runes. Starting at character level 5, when you gain access to +1 armor, you can also etch these property runes into your armor to customize it and give it additional effects, such as extra energy resistance, defense against critical hits, or spell-like effects such as invisibility:Full patch notes:Feature:Armor property runes. You can now buy armor property runes and attach them to your armor. Armor must have at least a +1 armor potency rune to be enchanted with armor property runes (a +2 armor can have two armor property runes, and a +3 armor can have three runes).New armor property runes: energy resistance runes (fire-resistant, cold-resistant, acid-resistant, sonic-resistant, electricity-resistant, greater fire-resistant, greater cold-resistant, greater acid-resistant, great sonic-resistant, greater electricity-resistant), fortification, g…
- Dawnsbury Days 4.28 (reaction scroll hotfix) - 18 May 2026
Primarily fixes a crash that happens when you have a scroll with some reactive spells such as breath of life.Full patch notes:Character content:New items: war flailModding:Modding: FeatName.HumanizeTitleCase2() will now return the feat's human name, and you don't need to use a display name workaround anymore.Rules fidelity:Archetype (Archer): Archer's Aim is now concentrate.Classes (Fighter): Fixed that Agile Grace didn't apply to skill checks.Classes (Fighter): Fixed that Agile Grace stacked with Hunter's Edge: Flurry + Warden's Boon combination.Classes (Kineticist): Fixed that you could attempt to move creatures unable to move with Four Winds.Classes (Kineticist): With Four Winds, the kineticist may now choose the order in which allies Stride.Items: Magical staves now count as staves for the purposes of The Infinite Tome's favored weapon and the Deadly Simplicity feat.Items: The deadl…
- Dawnsbury Days 4.27 (performance update 2 - 500 kobolds) - 16 May 2026
This patch further improves performance on top of the improvements in the previous patch. Many of the performance improvements in this patch were tested on the Workshop mod "500 kobolds" (thank you to the author!):Previously, Dawnsbury Days often froze when you attempted to even enter this map, and in any case, even if you did manage to enter, you'd have to wait a long time for any kind of movement or animation to happen. This patch's improvements focused on making this map playable, and so have the greatest effect on encounters with huge numbers of creatures, which aren't too common. But the improvements did have at least some effect on all encounters, albeit more modest, and so we see some benefit in all encounters:Full patch notes:Performance:Performance: Greatly improved the performance of the flanking algorithm.Performance: Improved the performance of taking all actions by moving lo…
