- Tetrachroma 1.3.2 Maintenance update - 8 June 2026
Today's update is a very small maintenance update to fix an issue with running the game under Linux using Proton. When running under Proton, minimizing or alt tabbing out of the window could cause increased memory or GPU usage as the game continued to render. Now the game stops rendering and throttles its update rate when the window is minimized or hidden which should resolve this issue. This issue was only observed under Linux, but the change should also reduce power usage when the game is minimized under Windows. Changes Fixed an issue where minimizing the window or alt tabbing out of full screen could cause performance problems when running under Proton / Linux
- Tetrachroma 1.3.0 Update - Cheat Codes - 24 March 2025
Today's update adds a new Cheat Code screen! On the Difficulty Selection Screen, press Down four times while on the bottom row to reveal the Cheat Code menu. This hidden screen lets you enable or disable gameplay modifiers that can dramatically change how the game plays. Note: playing with a cheat code enabled disables stats and achievements. The in-game timer will also display asterisks next to the time to indicate cheats are active. Cheats are temporary and reset when you quit out of a mode. What's next: This update wraps up the main post-launch content I had planned for the game. Huge thanks to everyone who's played and supported it so far--it seriously means a lot! I'll soon be shifting more of my focus to a new project, but I'll still be around to fix any bugs or issues that come up. Bringing the game to consoles is something I'd really love to do, so I'm exploring this possibility…
- Tetrachroma 1.2.3 Update - Custom Music - 13 January 2025
Today's update adds some new quality of life features, with the biggest being new support for custom soundtracks. Thanks for your continued feedback and support! Update: There were a couple bugs and unexpected corner cases with the custom soundtrack feature, but I think these are all fixed with the hotfixes. Sorry about the flurry of small patches! Changes Custom soundtrack support: The game now has support for custom music! To add your own music to the game follow these steps: Right click the game from your Steam library, click Manage, then click Browse Local Files. Double click to open the Custom folder, and then open the Music folder contained within the "Custom" folder. Place your music here! The game supports ".mp3", ".flac", and ".ogg" format files. This directory also contains a README.txt containing information on how to setup custom title and game over screen music. Mute when w…
- Tetrachroma 1.2.2 Update - ARCADE Mode Synchros - 10 December 2024
Today's update adds a new mechanic specific to ARCADE mode called synchro moves (also just called synchros). Synchros are an advanced high gravity technique originally found in classic arcade stacker games. An 'auto synchro' is used to 'skip' the I piece over the small gap. Background on Synchros in Classic Games: In classic titles, a synchro is performed by rotating and shifting a piece within the same 60Hz frame. Because gravity only applies once per frame, this allows for high gravity movements that would otherwise be impossible. It’s somewhat like a 'combo'. Because the mechanic is tied to the game's framerate, certain synchros ('manual synchros') require frame perfect inputs in classic games. Tetrachroma's Synchro Design: Because Tetrachroma is designed for modern, high-refresh rate displays, the traditional frame-based approach doesn't translate well. Instead, the game uses an adj…
- Tetrachroma 1.2.1 Hotfix - 24 November 2024
Just a quick update to address a scoring bug and some other minor fixes. Happy stacking and thanks for the support! Changes Bug Fix: Fixed a bug where line clears greater than 4 didn't count for back to back Minor Fixes: Fixed a bug that caused the spin sound effect to incorrectly play in certain circumstances when using initial rotation when the spawn location is blocked. Minor Fixes: The 'ceiling' above the board no longer counts as occupied for purposes of checking occupied spin corners. Minor Fixes: Achieving a high score and then completing the tutorial no longer causes a high score message to display
- Tetrachroma 1.2.0 Update - Sound Styles - 18 November 2024
This update adds the ability to play any of the game's 8 modes with the "sound style" from another mode. I also added a new extra sound style! Thanks for the support and feedback! Changes: Sound Style Preferences: Sound styles can now be selected from the preferences screen similar to block styles. Unlocking a mode unlocks its sound style for use in other modes. New Extra Sound Style: A new sound style called 'ADVENTURE' is unlocked by default. Developer's note: This new sound style is based on heavily manipulated sounds from my previous game. Given how different they are, I didn't expect many players to have played my last game, but there are more of you than I expected!
- Tetrachroma 1.1.6 Hotfix - 9 November 2024
I'm working on bigger update but wanted to push this small gameplay bug fix out before then. Thanks to Kero for spotting this! Changes Fixed a bug affecting spin detection which caused detection to be too lenient in certain cases, especially with "mini" spins.
- Tetrachroma 1.1.4 Update - New Ghost Piece Design - 5 November 2024
Today's update adds a new default ghost piece behavior along with some small changes. I think this new ghost piece design gives a noticeable improvement to game feel, especially in the CONSOLE and ARCADE modes, but if you'd prefer the old behavior there's an option for that as well! With this update I think Tetrachroma will be entering a new phase of development with less frequent but larger updates. There aren't as many small issues to address, so I have more time to work on expanding and improving the game in larger ways. I'm excited! I am currently planning a fun update which I hope to have available within a week or two. I'm also going to spend more time promoting the game to grow the Tetrachroma community. Thank you all for your feedback and support! Changes Hotfix 1.1.5: Fixed a positioning error of the I piece in the next / hold window in ARCADE mode. Reworked the ghost piece dis…
- Tetrachroma 1.1.3 Hotfix - 1 November 2024
Just a small update fixing a compatibility issue with display scaling and a bug. Thanks for the reports and support, and let me know if you run into any issues. Keep on stacking! Changes Changed the game process to be "DPI aware" which should fix compatibility issues with Windows display scale settings Fixed a bug that caused piece motion after images to display above their correct position in high gravity speeds.
- Tetrachroma 1.1.0 Update - New Control Options - 30 October 2024
Medium sized update adding some new control options along with some miscellaneous fixes. The biggest new feature is the ability to edit control handling on a per mode basis. Let me know in the Steam forums if you encounter any issues. Thanks for your continued feedback and support! Hotfix 1.1.2: Corrected an issue preventing saving with non ASCII-characters in the path. Hotfix 1.1.1: The update accidentally included a test pattern in place of Puzzle 1--ooops! this has been corrected! Sorry! Added the ability to set mode-specific control handling overrides. Access this feature from the new "Mode-Specific Handling Screen" in the Controls options menu. The soft drop lock setting has been expanded to support "OFF", "ON PRESS OR HOLD", or "ON PRESS". "ON PRESS" replicates the old setting of "ON" while "ON PRESS OR HOLD" is a new behavior meant to be more accurate to classic arcade stackers.…
- Tetrachroma 1.0.4 Hotfix - 28 October 2024
Another smaller update fixing some gameplay bugs. I appreciate the reports! I'm planning another update this week to add some new control options--this was originally planned for today but I wanted to get theses fixes out first. During the busy launch period I'll also be maintaining a "Known Issues / Planned Improvements" post so you can check what's coming soon. Thanks for your continued support! Changes Fixed a bug preventing spins from being detected in ARCADE mode when the spin ends with the T piece pointing up. Made 180 degree rotation more consistent with normal rotation with respect to initial rotation system.
- Tetrachroma 1.0.3 Hotfix - 26 October 2024
This is another small update fixing a couple of bugs. Thanks for reporting them! I'm planning a slightly larger update in a couple of days which will add some new control options based on community feedback. Changes Fixed a crash when using SDR setting of 0 and playing the Monochrome/Console mode. The Symbols block style used in the Tutorial and Chaos modes is now unlocked by default instead of showing "UNLOCK TUTORIAL" on the unlocks screen.
- Tetrachroma 1.0.2 Hotfix - 26 October 2024
After last nights hot fix correcting a bug in the ARCADE rotation system I went through and double checked the other "classic" rotation systems and found some more inaccuracies / bugs. These have been corrected. Sorry these slipped through! Please let me know if you find anything else out of order.
- Tetrachroma 1.0.1 Hotfix - 26 October 2024
This is a quick fix to correct a bug in the ARCADE mode's rotation system. The S and Z pieces rotated incorrectly in this mode. Thank you to Kero for reporting this issue!
- TETRACHROMA Full Release! - 25 October 2024
I'm excited to announce the full release of Tetrachroma! Compared to the demo version, the full release adds 7 new modes, 25 more puzzles, the ability to play the game in a single stage SPECTRUM style, and bunch of unlockable color palettes and blocks. There's a lot of new modes being added at once, so I'm sure there will be balance changes and fixes needed. Please let me know on the Steam forums or elsewhere if you have feedback or encounter problems. Creating this game has been an intense journey for me as I dive deep into a genre I love. I've gotten a lot of joy out of developing this game, and I want to thank everyone that has been a part of that. Thanks to all the demo players and everyone that offered feedback and support! In addition to the many new modes and puzzles, here's a change list for this version: Changes: Achievements added. Unlock 58 achievements by completing modes an…
- TETRACHROMA releases October 25 - 18 October 2024
I'm excited to announce that the full version of TETRACHROMA releases October 25! The full version of the game includes 5+ more gameplay modes to try. New modes: WILD mode: an easier mode that introduces wild colored blocks at stage 1 of the marathon CONSOLE mode: "retro" mode with classic stacking mechanics BIG mode: double-sized blocks for extra challenge CELL mode: small square board with modified piece set Plus more to discover in game! The full release also features 25 more hand designed puzzles in the game's PUZZLE mode, and a bunch of color palettes and block styles to unlock. Demo availability: With the full release of the game, the current demo will no longer be available. Thank you to everyone that has played the demo so far and to players that offered feedback and encouragement. The game is so much better thanks to you! I may develop a new demo in the future, but for now, foc…
- Tetrachroma Demo Update (0.4.1) - 13 October 2024
This update fixes some minor bugs and adds the option to turn off the game's spawn delay canceling mechanic. Turning off spawn delay canceling makes the gameplay slower, but also gives more time to charge DAS as the pieces spawn. Changes: Replaced "Repeats Cancel Spawn" option with more general purpose "Spawn Delay Cancel" option. This option allows setting the spawn delay cancel mechanic to "OFF", "ON INPUT", or "ON INPUT OR REPEAT". The default is "ON INPUT" Add wild colored blocks to the block appearance preview in the Preferences menu for Puzzle mode Changed wild colored block 'jewel' rendering to slightly improve visibility of jewels Fixed issue where there is garbled text at the end of the URL when opening Steam page from the Full Game menu option Corrected background shading around the top inner border of the playfield which was off by one pixel
- Tetrachroma Demo Update (0.4.0) - 5 October 2024
A new visual effect option has been added to the game that highlights which lines will be cleared before a piece is placed. This helps new players learn the core mechanics and experienced players play faster. Changes: Added "Line Clear Preview" option to "Visual Options". This option highlights which lines a piece will clear before it is locked. Defaults to on with the "RGB" setting. Reworked background image loading code. This change reduces memory (RAM) usage by about 50% by only loading backgrounds for the selected mode. Increased opacity of "Subtle" setting for "Color Change Preview" option.
- Tetrachroma Demo Update (0.3.0) - 19 September 2024
This update makes balance changes to the game over condition with the goal of making the game feel a little more forgiving. The change makes it easier for new players to play the game for longer and for expert players to get larger line clears. Changes Reworked game over condition: game over now occurs when a piece is placed with none of its blocks contained inside the board. Previously game over occurred when a piece was placed with any of its blocks contained outside of the board. Special thanks to MelloBoo44 for suggesting this change on the Steam forums. Added slight board shift when blocks are locked above the board: when blocks are locked above the board frame, the board is shifted down slightly to improve visibility of these blocks. Added effect where the top of the board's border briefly glows rainbow colors to warn if locking a piece would cause a game over.
- Tetrachroma Demo Update (0.2.3) - 6 September 2024
Changes Added a feature which draws 'wild' colored blocks with a 'jewel'. Select the jewel appearance or turn it off in the Preferences menu. Added an option "Repeats Cancel Spawn" to the "Controls Handling" menu. When "On", holding soft drop or shift can be used to quickly cancel the spawn delay of pieces. Fixed a bug where hold could be used twice if first used during the spawn delay.
