- Vertiginous Golf, the mini-putt game in the sky, is free for the day - 26 October 2015
Vertiginous Golf is unlikely to get a Nike endorsement for swoosh-emblazoned plus-fours anytime soon. It's billed on Steam as "a dystopian steam punk mini golf adventure game set in the skies above an alternate world where life on the ground is enveloped in permanent smog, constant darkness and never-ending rain." We haven't reviewed it but our look at the Early Access release last year was quite positive, and I enjoyed the time I spent with it as well. And for the next 24 hours (although a bit less than that by now), it's free. Vertiginous Golf has about as much to do with golf as Trackmania has to do with Formula One, which is to say, not much at all. It's more of a puzzle game than anything else, as Shaun mentioned back in April, in which you will typically find yourself double (or triple) digits over par until you figure out exactly how to approach each hole. Today we're launching an update that makes some minor changes that should help with the difficulty of Vertiginous Golf. We've added a new "see through" effect which makes sure that the ball, club, bird and hole are always visible. This means that your view will never be blocked by obstacles which should help players out of some tight spots. We've also added a simple aiming guide that will help you line up those long shots. We expect a totally impressive YouTube montage of trick shots any day now. Both the see through effect and aiming guide can be turned off in the Options menu. It also introduces the ability to create a custom course, selecting holes from the list of Community Holes to create an amazing Community Course Playlist. With more Community Holes popping up every day, we thought it was important to queue them up and play them all in one seamless experience. - Vertiginous Golf is a steam punk golf game coming to PC - 17 April 2015
If your favourite things are video games, mini golf, steam punk and going on adventures, then we've just found the meaning of your life. Vertiginous Golf is all of those things happening at the same time. No, you're not dreaming. No, I'm not lying to you. You'll be able to get it on Steam come May 6, or else you can get it right now in Early Access. Off you go! For the rest of us who don't really care about steam punk or golf, it still looks like a pretty sweet action puzzle game. PC Gamer's Craig Pearson rated it highly when he played it last year , advising that the "levels are gorgeous puzzles that challenge your ability to perfectly plonk a ball". Basically, it's only a golf game by name. Th final game will boast a level editor, adventure mode, and both local and online multiplayer, with up to 100 courses to master / solve.
