• Minor Steam Deck improvements - 23 August 2025

  This update changes the default UI scale and resolution when playing on small-screen (and specifically Steam Deck) devices, to make the UI more sane (and, you know, immediately playable) on smaller screens.

• Update #1 is live! - 23 July 2024

  The first update is live! It brings a gaggle of bugfixes and minor improvements, particularly for macOS and Linux, plus four new characters with their own unique modifiers. 'Red' Rosa Lee is your girl if you rely on Saloons for recruiting. As a fortune teller, she can also work in Saloons for extra gold. If you prefer to take the Governor's office by force, you might prefer Kitty Carstars. Raids & gunfights are her specialty! Sheriff Sanders is the new lawman in town; unlike other law-abiding characters you can play, he's particularly good at recruiting new deputies. and finally, Hardball Harry always wanted to join the army, but just couldn't stand the uniform. He gets extra dread when enlisting at forts, but unlike an ordinary soldier he can still outlaw it up when he wants. And yes, the loading screen hints are (finally) back! That's all for now, but expect another (free, obviously)…

  The first post-release update for Governor of the West will bring four brand-new characters and three new attributes that change the way they play. They're not quite ready for prime-time yet -- I'm still making sure they're balanced! -- but they'll be part of the first update that should come out late next week. • Governor of the West is at Odyssey Gaming Festival - 5 July 2024

  Like turn-based games? In the north of England? Want to hang out with a room full of indie gamedevs play some demos? If you answered 'yes!' to all three, then you should come say hi at the first-annual Odyssey Gaming Festival in Harrogate, England this weekend. Birdworks will be there showing off the pre-release version of Governor of the West, and giving away free copies to folks who come by.
