Artwork by BearSaidNo, one of the artists for v1.2's splash screen artworks.Hello! Today we have a quick little update for you, version 1.2.3! It's very small, but we had to release it because it contains a very important bug fix, which was introduced in v1.2.2, where Pixelorama would freeze when you used the bucket tool on an active selection. But we managed to sneak it a few little improvements as well!Full changelog of version 1.2.3:AddedLocking guides in place is now possible from the View menu. #1612Cloning cels is now possible when you hold Shift while dragging them. #1590You can now center the content of cels from the cel button's right click menu, in the timeline. #1605FixedFixed Pixelorama freezing when using the bucket tool when a selection is active.Happy painting, and keep pixelating your dreams! 🎨✨Pixelorama is available on Steam and Itch.io!
- Pixelorama v1.2.2 is out! - 9 September 2026
Artwork by Momo, one of the artists for v1.2's splash screen artworks.Greetings everyone! We have another Pixelorama update for you! Today we are releasing version 1.2.2 to the world, and with it we bring a highly requested feature, a new dedicated gradient tool! Not only that, but you can now also export Pixelorama projects as Aseprite files, instead of just being able to import them.We also fixed a quite serious bug, which made keyframe IDs conflicting with already existing keyframes when loading a pxo file. If you load a pxo file that has keyframes, you will unfortunately have to re-create them in order for it to work correctly, otherwise when you try to select, move, delete etc a keyframe, other keyframes will also receive the same operation, due to ID conflicts. Moreover, we re-wrote some of the code of the layer effect system to massively improve the performance of stacked effects…

Artwork by Roroto Sic, one of the artists for v1.2's splash screen artworks.Hey everyone! Version 1.2 got released just a few weeks ago, and it is already time for a newer version, 1.2.1! This is a relatively small update, focusing mostly on bug fixes, quality of life improvements and overall polishing, but we do have some small new features as well. Also, Pixelorama just became 7 years old as of yesterday! It's crazy to think that an experiment we started back in 2019 have evolved into this, and we are extremely grateful to you for all of your support these years. The future looks even brighter, and we can't wait to see what surprises it holds for us, together with you. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.Full changelog of version 1.2.1:AddedExporting images as SVG files is now possible. Right now it's very basic, it just takes each non-transparent pixel and makes it a element. In t…

Artwork by Kellay, one of the artists for v1.2's splash screen artworks. We are happy to announce that the newest version of Pixelorama, 1.2, is finally here! This is another major update, with a lot of new features that can completely change your workflow and haven't been seen in traditional pixel art editing before. It is genuinely exciting to bring something new to the pixel art world, and we hope the community loves these features as much as we do!IMPORTANT: Compatibility breaking changesUnfortunately, every now and then, if we want to move forward and improve, some things have to be remade, leading in compatibility breaking changes.Breaking change #1:Due to the 3D layer remake mentioned below, the 3D layer data of pxo files is NO LONGER COMPATIBLE between v1.2 and older versions. The pxo files themselves should load just fine, but the 3D layers will be EMPTY. If you have existing pr…

What's this? Two updates in a single month? But we also took the opportunity to sneak in a few new small features as well!Version 1.2 enters its beta stageAfter working on the next major version for months, we believe that it's finally time for it to enter its long-awaited beta stage! The main new features include:A brand new keyframe mode for the timeline, that allows you to animate non-destructive layer effects! The UI side of things is not yet finalized, but it is functional. More info here: #1417Autotiling support for tilemap layers. Hello everyone, we are alive! I know we haven't had a new update in months, but we have been quietly working on the next version, v1.1.9, as well as the next major version, v1.2. Today is the day we break the silence and finally release v1.1.9! This turned out to be quite a big update, with some new features, quality of life improvements and a series of bug fixes and performance enhancements.Important: Regarding the Android versionWhen we published version 1.1.7, we also released an experimental Android version. Update 1.1.9 brought many improvements to it. However, its future is rather bleak. And not just Pixelorama's, but the entire Android ecosystem is in danger.Recent changes and discussions around Android’s policies have raised concerns about the openness of the platform. There is a possibility that future restrictions could make it harder to distribute apps outside of centralized…

- Pixelorama v1.1.3 is out! - 6 August 2025
Pixelorama v1.1.3 is here! 🎉 Mostly a maintenance release, containing a lot of important bug fixes, but it also comes with a few new features. The most significant change in this update is the fact that the tilemap layer system has been refactored behind the scenes, which affects the behavior of isometric tiles. Make sure to keep backups of your old projects if they contain isometric tiles. Full changelog of version 1.1.3: Added Implemented limited support of Photoshop (.psd) file importing. Added ability to edit individual tiles in tilemap layers even in place only mode. Added support for batch removal of unused tiles in tilemap layers. - Pixelorama v1.1.1 is out! - 6 May 2025
Say hello to Pixelorama v1.1.1! 🎉 This is a minor update, mostly containing bug fixes, but it also has some shiny new features. The most notable new feature is the support of isometric & hexagonal tile shapes for tilemap layers! YouTube channel We have made a brand new YouTube channel for Pixelorama! This channel will be used for tutorials, feature showcases, and perhaps even some devlogs. We have a lot of ideas on videos we could make, so please stay tuned and subscribe. The first video is now live, you can watch it here: Changes to the splash screen artwork event The splash screen artwork event for version 1.1 had a very low amount of entries compared to past events. The way it currently works is that before we release a new major version, such as 1.0 and 1.1, we announce a time period (usually around a month) where everyone can draw an artwork made with Pixelorama, and they can subm…
- Pixelorama v1.1 is out! - 28 March 2025
Pixelorama v1.1 is here, bringing a lot of game-changing new features! 🎉 This release introduces highly anticipated additions like tilemap layers, audio layers, indexed mode, a brand new text tool, and much more! The journey to implement these features in such a short time has been challenging, but your incredible support has kept us going. We’re thrilled to keep improving Pixelorama with the help of this amazing community. Here is an overview of the biggest changes in this version. Tilemap layers It is now possible to create tilemaps in Pixelorama, in the form of tilemap layers. Tilemap layers are a special type of pixel layer which use a tileset, and each cell of the grid has a reference to a tile from that tileset. Tilemaps are usually used when designing levels for games. Tilemap layers have a draw tiles mode which, when enabled, allows you to directly modify tiles on the canvas. Y…

While we have been working on this update, we have also been preparing the next big version, v1.1 at the same time! If all goes well, it will be the next update after this one, and it will contain some huge new features, such as a text tool and the long awaited indexed mode! Stay tuned for more information soon. - Pixelorama v1.0.4 is out! - 25 October 2024
Greetings and salutations friends! A new Pixelorama update arrives today, and with quite a lot of goodies this time! Probably the biggest new feature of them all is the ability to make panels into floating windows! To use this feature, you first have to enable “Moveable panels” from the Window menu, tabs will appear on top of every panel. On the right side of these tabs, you will have a menu with a single option - “Make floating”. Click on that and the panel will become its own window. Close the window to turn it back into a panel. If you have “single window mode” disabled from the preferences, the windows will also be able to be placed outside of Pixelorama’s main window, which can be pretty useful for multi-monitor setups! Another important new feature is the new “Color replace” mode of the Shading tool. This mode allows you to choose colors from a palette as lights or shadows, simila…
- Pixelorama v1.0.3 is out! - 13 September 2024
Hello everyone, new Pixelorama version today! Just like the previous minor versions, this one also contains important bug fixes, but it comes with a few new features and improvements as well! Among the new features is a new layer effect called Index Map, contributed by Variable. This effect makes the original red and green color values of the image act as x and y positions of a separate image (the map), and the result uses colors from the map based on the red and green color values from the source images. This allows you to change the colors of the map, and the changes get automatically applied to the source project. This can allow you to use techniques such as this: To explain how this new effect works, Variable has even prepared a video! Full changelog of version 1.0.3: Added Added new global layer buttons that change visibility, lock or expand all layers on the first level. Added a n…
- Pixelorama v1.0.2 is out! - 21 August 2024
Hello everyone! Here’s another release for Pixelorama, containing some important fixes and improvements, as well as a few new features! The highlight of this update is that group layer blending is now supported! Layers that belong to the same group are now being blended together into a single texture, which represents the entire group. Layers outside the group are not affecting the group’s blended texture. This has several advantages: Group layers can have their own blend modes. A new “passthrough” mode has also been added that does not blend the children of the group together, as if the group doesn’t exist. Group layers can both act as a clipping mask and be used by a clipping mask. Group layers and cels now have their own opacity. Group layer effects are no longer being applied recursively to each of its children, but instead they are being applied once in the final blended texture. T…
- Pixelorama v1.0.1 is out! - 5 August 2024
Hello everyone! It's been a week since version 1.0 came out. We hope you have been enjoying Pixelorama so far! To ensure that you do, we just released version 1.0.1, which contains some bug fixes and performance improvements. NOTE: If after updating Pixelorama still says that its version is v1.0-stable and not v1.0.1-stable, go to the Preferences and just toggle "Single window mode" on and off. This is an one time bug and will not happen in future updates again. Full changelog of version 1.0.1: Added Added an image effect that lets you adjust color properties of the image, such as brightness and contrast. It is now possible to toggle low processor usage mode in the Preferences (called "Update continuously"). Changed It is no longer possible to click outside of a dialog to close it. Animation tag importing can now open from the frame button right-click menu. The previews of the elliptica…
