- The Final Major Patch Before Full Release: my thoughts, server reset - 24 August 2026
Dear Seekers,We are now about to wrap up preparations for the upcoming Large Patch. It will bring a lot of changes, mostly related to how metrics are calculated and displayed. The game will finally make it obvious that all that matters is the quality of your submitted solution and not the time spent or mistakes made (in the current build, mistakes matter; time does not). The new scoring system is geared towards motivating players to discover new quantum algorithms for the given problems. Those who discover the best algorithms will forever remain in the history of the given puzzle (unless somebody else moves the bar forward). What to expect in the next patch:Complete rework of metrics and challenge completion screensBetter in-game explanations, new Sage letters, cleaner interfaceNew puzzles in the modules that cover topics which require deeper explanationsLarger circuits will run at highe…
- Time for a Tournament! We passed 10k players - 29 June 2026
Dear Seekers,I want this to be much more than an educational game... a platform to start what I like to call "quantum eSports": weekly tournaments, big competitions, events with sponsors and prizes.I think this is the best way to get people excited about coming up with cool quantum algorithms. QHW is here, yes it's not as good as it will be in the future, but what we are really slacking on is quantum algorithms. I believe such algorithms can only be invented from people with different backgrounds (than Quantum Computing) who are expert is a particular problem and are willing to put in the effort to find a quantum algo for it.Hence, I want to officially announce that this weekend (3-4 July) I will create an in-game Session and announce the IDs here and on our Discord. The more people join the better, this will help me test if the system is working correctly. On the state of the gameOur di…
- EA1.2.57 New text lines were created for every | symbol fix - 14 May 2026
We had a terrible bug in which all texts were spilling out thanks to a new steamdeck regex we introduced in the large patch to autodetect and change certain texts depending on if the player is using a deck or not-now fixed. Sorry for having to see so many badly formatted texts! You can reset your progress using the X button in the profile section if you feel this bug gave you any trouble.-QI teamPS. Linux native build coming tomorrow!
- macOS + Offline Are Here The Update You’ve Been Waiting For - 6 May 2026
Dear Seekers,The game is ready to teach anyone quantum with 0 background in algebra or anything. Game is almost done and we are preparing for Full Launch.🚀 Full Release StatusNo longer feels like an Early Access titleContent ~99% completeOver 56 patches so far, it became super hard to find something new I'd like to patch nowImproved learning curve based on a year of analytics!! Major refinements to reduce cognitive overloadIf you tried it early, now is the perfect time to return. You can reset your account!Stable & polishedNo known bugs (but feel free to go on a bug hunt)We've been working on this patch for over a year now. This ties up content that we asked many of you on Discord to test on our development branches and so far so good. It's a scary moment for us to launch this, since we are a small team and the content is so vast that it has become simply impossible to test everything.…
- EA1.2.55 Game now finally has cats - 23 April 2026
Small fixes and changes to narration, puzzles and story. On the 4th (if things go well!) we go live with a Large patch -> this will make game fully playable offline, accounts can be reset, and entire game will have tailored UI and setup for Steamdecks. We need to plan a server reset soon. Game is now in top notch condition to learn quantum without any background in anything (esp now that it has cats too). -QI team
- EA1.2.53. OFFLINE mode in testing, improved tutorials - 17 April 2026
Dear Seekers,We’ve finally added an offline mode to Quantum Odyssey (FOR NOW only on Development branch, as there could still be untested bugs!)The game was always built around interaction... comparing solutions, hacking vaults, sharing creations and stuff like so basically a full zachlike experience. But not everyone has a stable connection, and that was a real limitation. Now the game can switch automatically between offline and online. You don’t need to do anything. Work done offline will sync once you’re back online, so nothing gets lost.Offline mode is currently available ONLY on the Development branch. If you want to try it:Right-click Quantum Odyssey in your LibraryGo to Properties → BetasSelect the Development branch and updateYou can also reset your player account now (for the moment, tokens and achievements are preserved). There are also a lot of improvements to tutorials and pu…
- EA1.2.51 fixed memory leaks, improved intros - 25 March 2026
this patch should forever address the laptop overheating problem some users were reporting after long play sessions
- EA1.2.50 UI scaling, font size, new content - 11 March 2026
Greetings, Seekers. This update focuses on making your journey through the world of QO more accessible and intuitive. We’ve heard your feedback regarding readability, carefully watched your progression with the content to adjust the learning curve, and we’re excited to bring these quality-of-life improvements to the game.Accessibility & UIUI Scaling: Added a new "UI Scaling" toggle in the Settings menu. You can now choose between 4 different scaling options to ensure text and interface elements fit your preference. This update drastically improves the experience for Steam Deck users and those playing on smaller displays. The game now fully supports 4 color blind modes, ensuring that visual puzzles and cues are accessible to all players.Interface elements (including fonts) can now be scaled as large as your resolution allows.Gameplay & ContentIncreased the physical size of the Forge area.Ad…
- EA1.2.49 New letter, improved content, offline work and translations - 9 February 2026
New in .49: -letter from Sage of Reasons -a few changes to puzzles that were too hard too soon -difficulty curve adjustments We are now preparing the offline mode for deployment (maybe another month of work?) and figuring out if the 400p+ written content within QO can actually be translated to languages beyond English. This will be quite a heavy project to undertake and I hope we won't let you down with the translations but I think it's worth to begin work on it. Quantum computing shouldn't be a thing just for English natives. Are you a French, German, Chinese, Japanese, Portuguese, or Korean speaker and a fan of the game? We’d love to hear from you if you’d like to help with translations. We want to make sure every language feels natural and accurate.
- EA1.2.48 New animations, better sage letters, improved content - 24 January 2026
Dear Seekers,-new animations for cases where complex numbers are uneven-revamped the letter system: new content, new letters, can now be scrolled while written-improved the learning curve for the first 20 modules by analyzing where people get stuck-the puzzles where people were once getting stuck are now a bit more intuitiveMany people without any background in mathematics who finished the game! This is really cool - the game does it's job. Content is almost ready for V1.0 release. Please support this project by leaving a steam review!I'd like also to bring people's attention to two awesome streams of the game: (stream of the game of a physics teacher with over 400h in) (Khan academy style quantum mechanics using QO)
- Beardhero Livestream 0 - 18 January 2026
We play through the Quantum Odyssey campaign and continue the quest to uncover all the secrets of the universe.
- EA1.2.46 many QoL improvs most won't notice - 5 January 2026
Focused on the first 5 modules and a few other small insignificant tweaks. Offline mode soon ready for deployment
- EA.1.2.45 Improved SWAP challenge, wording changes, sage letter impros - 2 January 2026
HNY! SWAP challenge has been remade, you can no longer cheat (everything needs entanglement now) Fixed some issues with the letters and overall wording
- EA1.2.44 Reworked Sage Letters to now express qm foundational ideas - 30 December 2025
Many found the sage letters to be too hermit-y and their language esoteric. This is no longer the case. I think this new rework combines really well with the new quote system the game is using to make for a complete immersion into this playground of quantum logic. Happy New Year everyone! The game is in an amazing state rn. Offline mode, metrics system overhaul and our first esports like competitions could begin Q1. It's now the perfect time to start learning real quantum.
- EA1.2.41 Oracle, Erases the data entries final, offline mode 90% ready! - 26 December 2025
This holiday season I'm enjoying working at this game more than anything for some reason. Hence you'll find in this patch further improvements to the learning curve, and a really verbose way to explain one of the hardest concepts in quantum algorithms development: What REALLY is an ORACLE? Check the Encyclopedia of the game (now sitting well at above 300pages) for the full description and if there are some things I left out shoot. I tried to explain everything without the math, since the visuals themselves are the math. Happy Holidays everyone! Offline mode is almost complete as well, soon you won't need internet to play the game (tb released in January; though for the best experience you should, this game scratches the itch for OPTIMIZATION like a proper zachlike game and without seeing what other people came up with, you won't really know there is more room to improve your solve). Aga…
- EA1.2.41 Colorblind mode: Protanopia, Deuteranopia, Tritanopia - 23 December 2025
Patch Notes – Color Blind Accessibility Update (Beta)This update introduces color blind accessibility options aimed at improving clarity, contrast, and visual consistency across the entire game. Even without enabling a color blind filter, many players should notice general visibility improvements. What’s newColor Blind Modes added to SettingsTested against the three main types of color blindness:ProtanopiaDeuteranopiaTritanopiaVisual improvementsClearer distinction between the four core quantum colorsConsistent color logic in simulationsReal components use blue tonesImaginary components use yellow tonesPreviously, negative real values could visually resemble imaginary components in some situationsUpdated gate icons and supporting graphicsImproved contrastBetter visual consistency across the UICircuit Machine frame adjustedMore neutral appearanceReduced visual distraction so focus stays o…
- EA1.2.40 The wordless tutorials now explain game mechanics - 7 December 2025
Realizing from several reviews that players get frustrated if they don't get explanations right from the start, I added deeper, beginner-friendly tutorials around the first node. Mechanics of the Fracture I & II now explain the game mechanics without using any quantum theory. Designing a good learning curve is extremely hard, especially when players come in with wildly different backgrounds. Some arrive with no math skills at all but hope to learn quantum computing -> these new tutorials are meant to help them progress much faster. Others complain that the early puzzles don’t teach quantum theory and assume the whole game will stay as easy as the first hour. My hope is that the new texts support both groups: beginners who need a gentle start, and advanced players who need to know what they are getting into and where to find a quicker path into the deeper, more demanding content.
- EA1.2.39 Press R to advance texts, don't click symbols anymore! - 23 November 2025
You no longer need to click buttons to advance texts, simply press the R key! Improved the narrated module, eliminated typos Every time you entered a new module it used to say "Learn to Fly", now the name of the puzzle is displayed instead. In the map the new hold right click to pan option is shown Panning over UI is no longer possible holding right click
- EA1.2.38 Narrated Module on History of Computation, righclick pan camera - 14 November 2025
Dear Seekers,Paula Marie has returned through a time capsule to be opened for those seeking a casual, relaxed and narrated history lesson into how humanity started with processing information. You'll learn about bits, bitstrings and how to build simple circuits, simply sit back and relax and let Paula cover everything for you. This should really open the game up for those absolute beginners (who haven't seen a 01 before). We also introduced holding right click to pan camera around, it should feel similar to any editing software you might use in the past. WASD is still there, but given some people are left handed this should really improve on their experience. Thanks everyone for testing this behavior on the steam deck. This month hopefully (finally) game will also be playable offline. As always, looking forward to hear your feedback and let's make QO immortal together.
- EA.1.2.35 Content update - new challenges - 28 October 2025
I’ve seen far too many Seekers get stuck at the tutorial. I believe it's my fault and I am finding ways to improve on this. It's fascinating to see that most people who put over two hours in, end up going 20h+, hence my goal is simple: to make the first 30 minutes feel like a casual, approachable experience, definitely not the "hardest puzzle game ever made", as some may have pointed out many patches ago.Two new wordless challenges have been added to create a more fluid on-boarding experience. These focus purely on what the gates do. Only in part three of the series will you explore why they do what they do.Beyond that, you’ll also find improvements to dialogue and several updated encyclopedia entries.Oh, and one more change: Paula Marie has taken a leave, entrusting her tutorial duties to the Sage of Axioms. Hopefully later this week we'll be adding a bunch more features requested by o…
