• Security Update - 5 October 2025

  Recently Unity disclosed a security vulnerability effecting all programs made with Unity (https://unity.com/security/sept-2025-01). Version 1.1 of PSolTrix was rebuild with a patched version of Unity. I recommend to everyone to use the latest version of PSolTrix.

• Version 1.0 is here - 6 April 2025

  PSolTrix is finally out of early access. I hope somewhere someone will have fun playing it.

• Colors - 9 January 2025

  As already indicated in the last update-post the main improvement in this update is that there new color palettes. There are now ten predefined color palettes, where I tried my best to pick colors that look nice and varied. The colors in the menu, UI and background are changed, too. In hindsight I should have done this a lot earlier, given how much it influences the appearance of the game. However, my programmer-brain told me that choosing nice looking colors isn't important and for some reason I was stupid enough to listen to my brain. Besides the colors there are only a few changes: The color transitions smoothly from tile to border. Minor tweaking of parameters for background animation while playing.   These are the updates: The "back" in the game-over screen is shown at the bottom of the screen, now. Changed position of preview scene in control-rebinding-menu. Improved detection of whether the last input came from mouse/keyboard or gamepad (used in tutorial). It's kind of insane that Unity's Input System doesn't has a simple function for that and I had to come up with my own solution... Playing the tutorial no longer changes the difficulty preset. The difficulty is shown in the in-game UI. Initial sound-level of music is reduced. Render-size of the next pieces scale, based on chosen height of those pieces. Music is played in menu, too. Game-mode (Icotris, Dodetris) is shown in the menus for those modes. First-time-play-flag (used to determine whether tutorial should be shown at start-up) is correctly unset when tutorial is left using esc-key. Option/parameter changes are saved if men…

• Important Fluff - 23 September 2024

  These are the additions in this update: Flipping a piece is now animated instead of instantaneous. I hope this will help players understand what "flipping" is doing and maybe it looks a bit nicer. Reduced height of preview-field in change controls menu. With previews parameters it was possible to game over in the menu... The flip-failed-sound is played only once when a flip fails. Due to a bug that sound was spawned once every frame before. Quick guide menus, that show the basic controls without a lengthy tutorial. Impatient players, who hate tutorials, can now have a look at the basic controls and try to figure out how the game works on their own. The full tutorial is still available, for players who don't want to guess how the game works. Also, the quick guide is shown at the beginning of the game, if someone starts the game for the first time. The field previews in the menus spawn on…

• Tutorial - 24 August 2024

  It turned out that new players still have problems understanding the geometries of PSolTrix, especially that the spheres consist of many rows/shells/layers. The update contains several changes that will, hopefully, give people a better understanding of what is going on: The different layers of the falling pieces/tetrominos are now rendered with a gap between them. I hope this will illustrate the different layers more clearly. There is also a slider in the menu to adjust the size of that gap. Adjustment of initial parameters for visualization of piece. If a piece is placed wrongly during the tutorial the camera will rotate more, to give players a better view of what went wrong. There is an extra step in the tutorial, showing an animation of the different layers. • This and That - 14 July 2024

  This update contains a few small things I wanted to get out of the way. There are three more game over animations. In total there are now four game over animations, which are chosen randomly. Additional parameters in the menu for adjusting the distance between camera and field, changing the total visual height of the field and switching between different stretchings of the row heights. The text "Mirror" is now in front of the mirror-view (may sound trivial, but actually required an ugly work-around). Added sections in the documentation (yes, there actually is an excruciatingly detailed documentation) explaining how the drop-points are calculated and how the lock-delay works.

• Background - 9 June 2024

  The solid black background looked a bit boring, so this update contains a more interesting one. For quite some time I didn't know what to do about the background, since I suck at art. But then I remembered that art-skills are not necessary, if one can program and knows math ;-). As a nice bonus, I could, with small modifications, reuse the background for the game-modes in the menu, as well.
