- NPC Playtest is now live! - 20 April 2026
The very first NPC playtest is now open! You can sign up for it on the game's Steam page and I will be granting access to the players in batches. The playtest will last from a few days to a week, so hurry up if you'd like to try it out. Also please join the Discord so you can give me feedback and find out more information about the playtest's content: https://discord.gg/UU3CbNnJDp This is just the first playtest for the NPCs of Vuntra City, and hopefully not the last. The NPCs are feature complete, but they are still a work in progress, so expect jank and bugs. The dialog is also not in its final state, but feel free to give me feedback on what you like and what you don't like about it, and whether you want to see more variety or content in certain dialog branches. NPC ChallengesTo make the playtest a little more interesting, I have a few challenges for you to complete. They aren't comp…
- Procedural NPC progress - 1 December 2025
Hello everyone! It's been a while since I posted any updates on the Steam page so I figured I should probably do that. As you might have noticed, I've stopped updating the Environment Demo, instead focusing on implementing the procedural NPCs that populate the city. The NPCs have proven to be the most challenging part of development yet, and have taken me a good while, but I think they are in a decent state right now. To summarize the work I've been doing, I have implemented a system that spawns over a million persistent procedural NPCs, each with a unique schedule, name, appearance, and personality that you will be able to encounter throughout the city and interact with. I just finished working on their schedules and behaviors, so they now have work and home phases, as well as leisure time to chill and hang out at the city's parks and rooftop terraces. Next thing on the list is impleme…
- Bugfix and Improvement Patch 0.1.5 - 10 May 2025
New bugfix patch is out! Demo Patch 0.1.5 Notes Bug fixes and improvements: - Fixed issue where items would be floating in the air if the player spawns inside a sky tram tower. - Improved sky tram routing thanks to the glitchy seed found by Skish - Throwing items in VR now transfers more momentum from the hand, allowing you to throw further. - Bottles now break more easily - Reduced the frequency of gym interiors, there were way too many of them. - Fixed ground shadows sometimes persisting where they should be removed. - Fixed items floating in the air near building entrances. Also, I am now working on the NPC spawn and schedule system and I have something very cool planned for it. However, I can't talk about it until I finish implementing the prototype and make sure it actually works and performs the way I'm hoping it will, so bear with me in the meantime.
- Update 0.1.4 - Spring mood in Vuntra City - 1 May 2025
Update 0.1.4 Notes New additions: - Some sectors now feature blooming cherry trees, glowing versions included. - New SDF shader variant on billboards: Māui - Fragment III by KΛTUR. Bug fixes: - Fixed issue with unique books leaving a ghost copy when you pick them up. - Fixed issue with elevator doors not spawning in multilevel interiors in certain scenarios - Improved sky tram route geometry (thanks to the glitchy seed found by YorVeX). By the way, if you find another glitchy seed with weird sky tram paths, don't hesitate to report it on Discord.
- Demo Patch 0.1.3 - Interior Stairs! - 22 April 2025
Patch 0.1.3 Content This is a small patch to add stairs to the multilevel interiors. The stairs have a variety of models depending on the interior's quality level, and they only spawn if there is enough room. Oh and another small change is the kitchens in bars and cafes will now spawn shelves instead of tables for a more industrial kitchen look.
- Demo Update 0.1.2 is here! - 15 April 2025
0.1.2 Patch Notes New Additions - New room type: kitchen - New room type: storage room Fixes and improvements Residential interior overhaul (apartments/hotels). Residential interiors are more likely to spawn on all floors except ground floor. Residential interiors are now more likely to contain bedrooms (and kitchens). Some furniture items like beds, couches, and armchairs are more likely to spawn by the wall rather than in the middle of their slot to improve layout realism. This is a work in progress and I am constantly looking for ways to make the interior layouts more realistic. Fixed stutter when entering a vehicle or an elevator. Fixed several furniture models that were missing LODs. Elevators will now close their doors on delay rather than proximity. Taxis will now leave after a delay as well as on proximity. Some bar counters will now have beer taps. Radio stations won't pick the…
- Demo Update 0.1.1 is now live! - 4 April 2025
Demo Patch 0.1.1 Notes New additions: - Street clocks - These are not just decorative, each one also has a panel that allows you to fast forward time by a selected interval - New interior type: Gym Fixes: - Fixed stutter caused by book shelves, as well as a few more minor stutter sources. This is an ongoing task so expect more stutter and performance fixes in the future. - Increased map terminal spawn chance at sky tram stations. - Street props should now be less likely to block building entrances. - Improved VR hand magnet to have a more reliable direction and a slightly wider item detection radius. - Fixed concurrency issues with party music, so now only one party will be audible at a time. - Shops will now only spawn on ground floors of buildings. No more grocery shop penthouses! - The taxi terminals now have an animated indicator which makes them easier to identify. - Sprinting will…
- Environment Demo is Now Available! - 26 March 2025
The Environment Demo is now available! Exciting news! You can now explore Vuntra City in VR or flat screen! Take a relaxing walk through the city's streets, ride the public transport, or just chill at a cafe or a spa that catches your eye. The project is still in development, and there is still a lot of work to do, but I'm thrilled to show what I've built so far. The demo only showcases the procedural city environment and does not feature the full gameplay planned for the final release. More information about the features and systems requirements for the demo can be found here: Vuntra City Environment Demo on Steam Join Vuntra City Discord for more information and feedback. Have fun!
