- 1 year and no updates? Is this abandonware? Where are the goblins? - 3 April 2026
Nope! Rest easy my goblin friends, our commitment to creating the world's most accurate goblin simulation hasn't slowed down.Quite the opposite in fact, this past year has been a big one for us, and we're so excited to share what we've been working on.We love our demo. (you should play it!) But after it's release last year we just weren't satisfied with the accuracy of the goblin physics. So we went back to the drawing board and re-designed our goblin from the ground up. (literally)It's been a long road with a lot of missed turns and dead ends, but we have finally achieved our goal: A seamless ragdoll goblin controller that feels intuitive and fun to control. This time, we aren't faking anything. Our goblins are fully ragdoll 100% of the time. We use physics forces to move, jump, attack, and match our lovingly crafted motion capture animations. We believe our game lives an dies on our cha…
- Let It Cook - 11 February 2025
Hello Goblin Gang! Happy February. There's been pretty steady interest in WOFG! through January, and demo playtimes keep going up. This is very encouraging for us. Thanks to everyone who is playing our little goblin game. I know it's been a while since our last update, and unfortunately this one is also very small. In this Update: Small settings tweaks and changes. New gravity handling which should fix the "floating" bug when Goblins walk over small ledges. That's it. Sorry if you were hoping for more. That's the bad news but I've got good news too! WOFG! has a bright future. We've been making slow but steady progress rebuilding the goblin controller from the ground up. What's in the demo now is fun- but it's also not quite right. This rebuild will give us a chance to revisit some mechanics we didn't quite get right and improve a lot of the code that's affecting the game's performance.…
- Holiday Haymaker Update - 21 December 2024
Merry Christmas Goblin Gang! Or happy whatever winter holiday you celebrate! We’ve been diligently reworking our character controller and optimizing Watch Out for Goblins! so it runs more smoothly on more hardware. This is a pretty big rework and it’s going to take us some time, but we think it will absolutely be worth it. In the meantime, we’ve added a bit of winter weather to the Skrimble Isles and warped it up nice with new combat animations. It’s a small update, but it’s a good update. So what’s new in WOFG! The Demo!? Big Bold Combat Animations - Our first run at combat animations was timid. We wanted snappy controls so we stayed away from anticipation frames, but this left the goblins with weak little punches that hardly looked like punches. No more of that! Our new punches have a ton of windup. The Gob’s now step in with wild haymakers that put their whole body into the punch. It…
- State of Dev November 2024 - 12 November 2024
Hello Goblin Gang! Watch Out for Goblins! The Demo! has been live on Steam for about a month now. We have been watching people play, listening to feedback, and thinking about our next steps. Before I get into our development plans, thank you all for playing and sharing your experience with the demo. Seeing the big playtimes in our Steam stats gives us confidence that we are on the right track. So what next? It seems that there is still some friction in our character controller. Game performance also isn’t as good as we’d like it to be especially on the Steam deck and older PCs. The path forward is clear– it's time to refactor. This means taking some time to go back to the basics of the project, looking to enhance what is working and fix what isn’t. We now feel we have a pretty good idea of what Watch Out for Goblins! wants to be as a game. Now the task is to rebuild the foundation into…
- WOFG! The Demo! - SPOOKY UPDATE - 29 October 2024
Watch Out for Goblins! The Demo! has been out for about two weeks now. Seeing people play the demo we made has been both exciting and terrifying. We’ve been learning a lot, listening to feedback, and thinking about how to incorporate it into the game. In the next few weeks we are taking some time to figure out our plans for the future. We have so many ideas on how to improve and expand our little goblin game. I expect we will have news to share soon. If you want to stay in the loop make sure you “Follow” Watch Out for Goblins! on Steam or on our website: SQYD.studio One thing we did learn, judging from playtimes, some of you really seem to be having a lot of fun with the demo. For you, here’s a small Halloween themed update as a thank you. We hope you keep following our progress as Watch Out for Goblins! continues to grow. What’s included in the SPOOKY UPDATE: A very small, but very spo…

- Home Stretch to the Starting Line - 2 October 2024
Hello Goblin Gang! Today we released our Watch Out for Goblins! demo trailer to the world. You can see it on the store page, our Youtube channel, or our shiny new website. We are very happy with how the trailer turned out. It is always good to take a step back and celebrate milestones, so I’m going to do that now. Hooray! Go us! We are now less than two weeks out from the start of Steam Next Fest. Our demo is fun, our goblins are silly, and we are excited to have a chance to share what we’ve been working on with all the good people playing games on Steam. We are thrilled to announce that “Watch Out for Goblins! The Demo!” will be available to play on October 14th, 2024 (just twelve more sleeps). Until next time, as always: Watch Out For Goblins!
- State of Dev September 2024 - 12 September 2024
Happy September Goblin Gang! NextFest looms, and we’ve been hard at work preparing the WOFG! demo. In fact, our demo build is now in our open playtest. If you want to help us polish it up by trying it out and giving us your honest feedback it would be greatly appreciated. You can sign up for the open playtest on the store page. If you’d rather wait until it’s out, you won’t have to wait long. We are planning to release the demo in early October. If you’d like to know what we’ve been working on for the past month and a bit, read on for this month’s State of Dev report: Milestones Reached in the Last Month Level Design - The WOFG! demo will be set on the Skrimble Iles. We’ve been shaping the level to try to find a balance between guided progression and open exploration. We think we’ve managed that. Goblin NPCs - We’ve created a “quest line” system for our NPC goblins that lets them change…
- State of Dev August 2024 - 12 August 2024
Hi everybody! Time flies. It has been over a month since our last dev update but that doesn't mean we haven’t been hard at work. Here’s what’s been going on in Gobland over the past thirty plus days. Milestones reached in the last month Input prompts - We’ve got a system for proper input prompts. While we still recommend a gamepad, hopefully this will help keyboard and mouse players learn how to be a goblin. Rebindable controls - We implemented a system to rebind gameplay controls. This will help people customize the controls the way they want, especially on mouse and keyboard- where player preferences are king. Goblin customization - We added a bunch of cosmetic/customization options for the goblins. We have a fair number of clothing options already, and have plans for many more. For some reason goblins wearing sunglasses are very funny to me. Quick respawn - By opening the fancy new g…
- State of Dev July 2024 - 5 July 2024
First off, we are happy to announce that Watch Out For Goblins! will be participating in Steam’s October Next Fest which runs Oct 14th - 21st. This is very exciting for us. It also sets some hard deadlines for when we need to have a complete demo. So that’s what we are working on now: a cool demo. Read on to learn more about what we have been working on and what we will be working on this summer. State of Dev Report Dev milestones in the last month Smoothed out and squashed bugs in our character controller. Feeling pretty good now, though we will be continuing to tweak settings here and there. Setup a basic system for NPC behaviors. This will let us add quirky goblins to the world, set them up with lines of dialogue, and let them change behaviors based on milestones the players achieve. Reworked the sprint system. Now you hold the button to boost your sprint speed and the sprint continu…
- WOFG! Playtest is Live on Steam - 10 May 2024
The time has come to start sharing Watch Out for Goblins! with the world. We are looking for players interested in helping us playtest in advance of our early access release. If that sounds like something you want to help with you can now sign up for the WOFG! Playtest from our store page. You can sign up to be a playtester right now, but first here are some things to keep in mind: The playtest will be time limited. This means you will eventually lose access to the playtest build. We plan to run the playtest for several months before replacing it with a publicly accessible demo version of WOFG! Save data is not guaranteed to carry over between playtest versions. You might lose all your progress (but that’s okay because the current game is very sand-boxy, there’s not much progress to make). You may run into performance issues. We are trying to strike a balance between big open levels wit…
- The Very First WOFG! Community Announcement - 26 March 2024
Hello everyone and anyone. My name is Conor. I’m developing “Watch Out for Goblins!” with my brother Joel. We have a Steam page now- a big step for us! Thank you for taking an interest in our crazy goblin game. Why are we making a physics platformer focused around active ragdolls? Personally, it’s because we played “Stair Dismount” a lot and have nostalgia. Universally, it’s because ragdolls are fun. We’ve toyed with a few different formats that would put active ragdolls at the front and center of our game, but the more we worked on a 3D character controller the more clear the game’s direction became. We are making a wacky physics platformer. Our goblins have weight and their collisions feel impactful. Our controls are unique and have a high skill ceiling. Our goblins already have a lot of ways to interact with their environment and we have plans for many more. We are beyond excited for…
