- Update 3: Friends and Secrets - 19 March 2026
How's it going? How has the last month been? Things have been very busy here! I've been working hard on The Shadowed Rune to improve it as much as possible while also creating new content to include in the game. This update brings, in addition to several new systems for the camp, important improvements in performance and technical aspects. For example, I have updated the control system so that the two-player mode works better and controller navigation in menus feels smoother.Over the last patches, new features have been added and tested by the loyal community that has grown around the game. Thanks to all this support, familiar faces have now made their way into the game as NPCs.Thanks to this extra motivation, I have included three new characters: Pere, Lusok and Zexxar. These characters can appear in different scenes in the Tower, in the tavern, and as merchants. They can also be used i…
- Update 2: The camp under the Tower - 4 February 2026
Hello! How time flies! Almost two months have passed since the launch of The Shadowed Rune, and your enthusiasm and support have truly reached my heart, thank you!To show my appreciation, I’ve prepared a huge update packed with lots of new content and brand-new systems designed to complete the camp experience.Until now, you would reach the Scorching Prison, defeat the final boss, and have very few options: unlocking Veld or the three members of the Triskelion Guard. But that has changed. Starting with Update 2, you’ll be able to free several additional camp members, allowing you to unlock different systems in the camp:Albert’s ShopIf you choose to free Albert, you’ll be able to invest in his shop and buy different cosmetic appearances for the characters and even… buy a wardrobe for your corner of the camp!Mint’s WorkshopBy freeing Mint from the prison, you’ll be able to invest in her wo…
- Update 1: Steam Workshop Integration - 26 December 2025
Several days have already passed since the launch of "The Shadowed Rune" and since then I have not stopped working to improve the player experience, fix issues, balance the game and make it easier for new explorers to enter the Tower. Thank you very much to all the rune masters who have shared their feedback with me to make "The Shadowed Rune" better every day!As a result, the Update 1 (version 0.378) has arrived, bringing important improvements, although the main one is the full integration with Steam Workshop.STEAM WORKSHOPIn all games, no matter how much content developers try to create, it is always consumed by players much faster than it takes to create it. Until now, a level editor was already available to create simple dungeons and connect them (up to 100 levels per dungeon), but sharing them was difficult. The next step, therefore, was to make sharing them with the community eas…
- The Shadowed Rune is now available in Early Access - 4 December 2025
On February 14th, 2024, The Shadowed Rune was born as a participant in the Roguelike Jam 7. The Jam ended on the 28th of that same month, and a few days later we learned that it had won 5 out of the 7 categories. That was the moment we saw the game's potential and its combination system, and the journey began.Since then, The Shadowed Rune has been my top priority. I’ve balanced it with other jobs and projects, but in the end it became a personal project that I’ve fallen more and more in love with. Every second of my life that I’ve dedicated to it has been filled with joy and passion. And it has changed a lot. A lot since that first Jam. It has gone through at least two or three major graphical overhauls, the latest one this past November after the Steam Fest. I turned everything upside down. By working closely with Félix, the composer of The Shadowed Rune’s soundtrack, and with the small…
- The Shadowed Rune runs beautifully on Steam Deck: 60 FPS + Cloud Save - 2 December 2025
I am happy to confirm that The Shadowed Rune runs perfectly on Steam Deck, maintaining a smooth and stable 60 FPS during combat, exploration, and even during heavy spell effects. The game’s rendering pipeline and visual systems have been tuned to look sharp on the Deck’s screen while keeping the action fluid and responsive. Thanks to Steam Cloud, you can seamlessly continue your adventure whether you’re playing on PC or on Steam Deck. Your progress, your builds, and even your custom levels created with the in-game Level Editor stay synchronized across devices. This means you can design a dungeon on your PC… and then test it on the couch, the train, or wherever you like to play. We’re currently waiting for Steam Deck Verification, but performance and compatibility are already solid. Even before the official checkmark arrives, the game runs great on Valve’s handheld and offers a fully porta…

- Developer Diary: After the void - 20 June 2025
After the voidIt's been a long time! After the Halloween update, I took a break from social media and other updates to focus entirely on the development of The Shadowed Rune. The demo on Steam and our booth at Indie Dev Day 2024 in Barcelona (Spain) received a lot of positive feedback, but I also took note of many things that needed improvement:GraphicsLightingCharactersRune management systemControlsAs you can see, these are critical elements for a new game that hopes to stand out in such a competitive genre. So, I focused on addressing each issue one by one. Graphics The first step was to stylize the characters. The main criticism was that they looked too childish, which might lead people to think the game is for kids—when it absolutely isn’t. I was aiming for a storybook look, like a “fairy tale”—but a dark one. So, I started experimenting to find the ideal scale for the characters wit…
- Halloween update: The Night of all Souls - 24 October 2024
The Halloween Update for ‘The Shadowed Rune’ is now available! Face the dungeon on the “Night of Souls”: the Awakened Ghosts are waiting to scare you and steal your soul... Use the new Bone Mask to defeat them and collect as much candy as you can to regenerate your stamina... One last thing: watch out for the new Labyrinth of Terror before facing the Guardian Golem... Are Maia and Brishen ready to defeat the darkness? Patch Notes: - A new mask has been added: the Bone Mask, which allows you to deal physical damage (physical damage, for example, can break cracked walls, just like the Earth element). - Halloween Pumpkins and Soul Candies have been added. These candies will give you stamina points and experience. - A new enemy has been added: the Awakened Ghost. It is immune to darkness, so it’s best to use other elements to defeat it. - The boss room has been modified, and a new room call…
- Dev Diary III: We launched demo! - 24 September 2024
Demo Launch! It's been a few months since the last development diary, but it was all for a reason: I’ve been working hard to launch a demo in September! Also, we presented the game at our stand at Indie Dev Day in Barcelona, so we had to put in extra effort to polish the game as much as possible. But now, with the demo complete, it’s time to take a breath, relax, and share all the updates with you: 1º NEWS Many months have passed since Roguelike Jam 7. After the Jam, we started the project from scratch, considering everything needed to create a complete game, keeping what worked and discarding what wasn’t necessary. In May, we completed the first demo to send to Indie Dev Day and participate in IDD. From May to August, I’ve worked on a second demo with a complete foundation, ready to be expanded with hundreds of levels, items, enemies, and spells. - The dungeon system presented in the p…
- Development Diary II: Random Dungeons - 19 June 2024
Hello again! Over the past few weeks, I've been busy preparing for the Indie Dev Day in Barcelona and promoting the game (I'll have a small stand there). However, I managed to find time to develop one of the systems I had pending to implement. Although it was planned in the GDD, implementing it in the game can always present challenges. As I mentioned in the previous development diary, the goal was to work on smaller dungeons, between 4 and 6 rooms (including entrance and exit), so they are relatively short (about 5-10 minutes). The tower where 'The Shadowed Rune' takes place consists of 7 main floors. Each floor is divided into several sections. Each random dungeon will be one of these sections. The last section of each level will be a boss fight. After defeating it, you'll ascend to the next floor of the tower. All sublevels will share the same theme. The challenge? Making these 'mini…
- Dev Diary I: From Jam to Steam - 29 May 2024
First of all, I would like to thank everyone for their support. I am super happy with the reception 'The Shadowed Rune' has received. My commitment now is to develop the best game I can and be completely transparent with the community. That's why I've decided to start a series of development diaries, sharing details about the game, the progress, and explaining why I've made certain decisions. This way, you can learn more about the game, and at the same time, I can hear your opinions, receive your feedback and suggestions, and make the game even better. Development Diary I: From Jam to Steam - Everything Starts with the Tutorial The Shadowed Rune was born as a Jam game, created in 2 weeks. After receiving positive feedback in the voting, I decided to prepare a new version, researching lighting and gathering feedback on what worked and what didn't. The main feedback was the significant di…
