- Update 0.5.0 - 7 April 2025
Instead of listing out every single stat change since this update is so large, I'll instead summarize the effects on the gameplay. Changes: Added craftable parts. These parts are made from the base materials like wood and stone commonly found throughout the game. They're used in several recipes including for turrets. Turret crafting requirement balance changes Many craft recipes have had their energy requirement removed, however the cost for their associated buildings has been significantly increased. Added a qol feature where the player speeds up after using up all their energy for the day Values for several items have been rebalanced Energy required for certain harvesting actions has been rebalanced The game should feel very different after this update, especially the daytime gameplay. My sincerest apologies for taking so long to release the update, my current focus now is simply to g…
- Updates on the game - 7 January 2025
Hello all! First of all I want to apologize for the long period of silence. Between next fest, dealing with natural disasters, and the holidays I just wasn't able to get anything out. However, while I was away I was still working on the next update! Since the last community update I made, the update ended up getting a lot bigger than expected, but it's just about ready. Originally it was supposed to only be a major patch, but now it's become a major patch, huge crafting changes (with new items), and another building. The only thing remaining before it's ready to launch is making sure there isn't anything broken from the changes. So that being said, it should be out soon, but I'm not going to give any exact estimates. After that update is out, the main focus will be on preparing to launch the game. That will involve adding controller support, fixing whatever bugs I can, and so on. Hopefu…
- Snowbound Devlog #3 - 25 October 2024
Hey there! Not too long of a devlog today, but I wanted to put out something to give you all a progress update on the next update. It's currently about 75% done, this week I mainly worked on adding some fixes and additional things found during Next Fest (thanks to all who wishlisted during Next Fest!). I don't want to say anything definitively because it seems like every time I do a natural disaster shows up, but the update should hopefully be coming out next week!
- Update Status - 7 October 2024
Hey everybody, I just wanted to make a quick post giving some updates on the next update. Unfortunately, due to hurricanes Helene and Milton I won't be able to get out the update this week. Hopefully I'll be able to put it out next week, but that remains to be seen. Either way I hope you all enjoy Next Fest next week! Unfortunately due to Milton there also won't be a devlog this week, but I'd say the update is about 50% done.
- Update 0.4.0 - 23 September 2024
New: New monsters - Flier, Egg Layer, and Tall Guy, I want to keep their new mechanics a surprise for the full release so all you get for now are their names! (Some of them appear in the header for this update as well) New traps - Up Flipper, Down Flipper, and Left Flipper, they move monsters by one tile in their responding direction. This allows you some control over where the monsters go, because the up and down flippers can be used to change their rows. New turrets - Cannon, Tesla Coil, and Lightning Rod. Cannon is very powerful, but has a significant cooldown. The tesla coil randomly attacks monsters. The lightning rod doesn't do any damage on it's own, but strengthens the damage from attack mode. New permanent upgrades - In order to unlock the new traps and turrets, new permanent upgrades have been added. QoL: You can now cycle through the objects on a given tile if there is more t…
- Snowbound Devlog #2 - 13 September 2024
Hello! I'm back with news on the next update. This upcoming update will feature new enemies, new minor defense mechanics, defense QoL (Quality of Life) features, and potentially new traps and turrets! What's done: So far I've managed to add a few highly requested defense QoL features/mechanics: destroying defenses, repairing walls, and cycling through the buildings on a tile. With the new destroy action, you can destroy your defense buildings. Turrets will return to your inventory, allowing you to move them, but traps and walls will be permanently destroyed. If you want to repair a wall that is partially damaged, you can build a new wall on top of it to repair it. Now, you can cycle through the buildings on a tile that are displayed in 'Object information'. Additionally, I've completed the artwork and most of the code for 4 new enemies! I don't want to spoil their designs, but their nam…
- Demo Update 0.3.0 - 23 August 2024
Patch Notes: New: Fishing ponds can now be found in the wilderness from depth 2+ (note, the highest depth available in the demo is 2, which means certain fish will be unavailable). Interact with them to start a fishing minigame in order to catch the fish. Fishers can now be unlocked from the upgrades menu, these can be placed on your farm and will automatically catch fish for you daily, as long as you collect them. Goldfish, char, and graylings can be caught from the ponds. Not available in demo: The personal pond, a version of the wild pond that is placed on your farm, is not available in the demo but will be in the full game. Additional fish, the bass, halibut, and salmon, are only available in the full version. Additional upgrades for fishing will be available in the full version, such as increasing the number of fish caught by fishers. Fishing related challenges will be available in…
- Snowbound Devlog #1 - 16 August 2024
Hi there! As previously mentioned in the challenge update, I wanted to start a devlog for Snowbound to keep you all updated on what's going on outside of demo updates. Today I'll be going over progress so far on the next update, which will be the fishing update! This past week, I've been working hard on getting the basic functions of the fishing update ready. I was successful, and now there's fishing in the game! The fishing mechanic in action. You can't see it clearly in the above gif, but after finishing the minigame successfully the fish is added to your inventory. The way the mechanic works is that you time your presses while the cursor is over the light part of the bar, and this fills up the progress meter above. Each time you fill the progress bar it gets a little harder. What is currently unimplemented but planned is that different rarities of fish will require more stages to be…
- Demo Update 0.2.2 - 8 August 2024
Patch Notes: QoL Changes: Redid the layout and look of the upgrades screen to reflect changes made to the full version. Overhauled house UI, now you'll be able to see a lot more information. Removed the 'leave forest upgrade' and changed it to a button that's always present on the house panel. There is also a meter present showing how close you are to affording to leave. Notice: When you press 'leave' it will now happen immediately, as opposed to simply unlocking the option as it was earlier. Fixes: Fixed an issue where the space bar was causing unintended interactions with UI buttons (particularly during night time defense). Fixed an issue where after changing the interact keybind, the ability to buy buildings would break. Fixed an issue where the build menu would break after changing the interact keybind, it will now be displayed properly. A big thank you to those reporting bugs in th…
- Play the new demo update for Tower Defense Fest! - 29 July 2024
Snowbound is participating in Steam Tower Defense Fest! To celebrate a new major update has been launched for the demo (see previous patch notes).
- Demo Update 0.2.1 - The Challenge Update and What's Next - 29 July 2024
Patch Notes: Challenges: Challenges are a new way to increase the difficulty of the game. They mixed and matched or played one at a time. Each available level has its own set of challenges, and completing all of them (on their own or together) will award you with a gold star for that level. Additionally, challenges will increase your sap reward, and your highest challenge difficulty (the cumulative difficulty value of all active challenges) will now be saved as a high score. Balance Changes: Plant food has been removed- Now you will earn experience for the witheroot tree by killing enemies. Each night you'll see how much experience you earned. While I liked the old system in concept, I felt as though it wasn't very clear mechanically and was a bit tedious to work with. If you want to earn more experience faster, you can try increasing the pollution so more enemies spawn, Level difficult…
- Demo Patch 0.1.6 - 11 May 2024
Patch Notes Changes Changed font color to be more easily readable Reworded several goals for clarity Fixes Added checks to the tutorial for if the player purchases specific buildings before that goal is available
- Demo Patch 0.1.5 - 8 May 2024
Patch notes QoL: Overhauled the tutorial to be goal based In this patch I overhauled the tutorial to be goal oriented instead of a few big blocks of text. I found out players were still having trouble with the nighttime controls, and how systems interact, so this should address that. Fixes Fixed a typo
- Demo Patch 0.1.4 - 6 May 2024
Patch Notes: QOL: Added new brightness settings Added a popup forcing new players to adjust their brightness, will only happen once Multiple players mentioned that with HDR monitors (and I imagine brighter non-HDR monitors as well) the brightness of the game could be headache inducing, so I added a brightness setting to hopefully combat this.
- Demo Patch 0.1.3 - 30 April 2024
Patch Notes: QOL: Added simple tutorial popups to help new players through their first run. Due to feedback I decided it was necessary to add a tutorial to make the first few nights a smoother experience. Currently the tutorials consist of a few popups which explain controls and provide ideas for what to do next. They're still open-ended so you can do whatever you like, but they should provide some explanation and a push in the right direction!
- Demo Patch 0.1.2 - 29 April 2024
Patch notes: Bug fixes: Fixed an issue where items that were not in the inventory showed up as sellable (may also help with items not being visible in inventory) QOL: Added confirmation box to returning to main menu Added confirmation box to resetting settings Added confirmation box to clearing save file
- Demo Patch 0.1.1 - 26 April 2024
Patch notes: Additions: Added higher resolutions in settings (experimental) Added an indicator to press and hold in upgrades screen Added tips popup on your first night Added message after repairing ballista for clarity Changes: Moved settings reset button Changed wording of upgrade that lets you end the run to be more clear Changed defense upgrade wording to be more clear Fixed level description typo Fixes: Fixed an issue where the random turret would freeze night gameplay (Hopefully) Fixed an issue where you would collect an item but it wouldn't reflect in inventory Fixed two issues causing defense upgrades to not update properly when purchased Fixed certain key binds not properly resetting
