- Contingency Plan 0.3.3 Patch Notes - 5 October 2025
Engine UpdateUpdated the engine to Unity 6 (6000.2.6f2) While this update was necessary due to an engine-level security vulnerability, it should come with some minor performance increases, as well as the ability to add more features in the future. A quick optimization pass was also done on our side of the code, resulting in a bit better CPU performance. QoLReworked the settings menu to have different tabs for different settings, decluttering the UI.Added a dark mode for flashbangs.Added audio volume settings.Added an audio test sequence.Added audio effects to the flashbang and stim inhalant (tinnitus and low-pass filter).Effects can be disabled in settings.Added a version number display to the lobby menu.Added scripts to automatically delete settings-related registry entries when uninstalling. (Only available on Windows 10 or 11 machines) Thanks for playing - Thomas & Camden
- Contingency Plan 0.3.2 Patch Notes - 10 November 2024
Fixed an issue where hand grab animations would use fallback assets during an action (e.g. pressing trigger to arm grenade) Updated enemy ship behavior to not attempt to avoid projectiles shot at them. It was too annoying to shoot them. Removed animators on player ragdoll hands, so that they will no longer creepily animate themselves to match local client's hands.
- Contingency Plan 0.3.1 Patch Note - 5 November 2024
Fixed an authority issue where clients could not arm grenades.
- Contingency Plan 0.3.0 - Universal Warfare Improvement Patch - 5 November 2024
For anyone wondering, the tagline for this update is definitely not a reference or acronym for anything ;) For real though thank you UWIP for the video, a few of us had a Discord watch party and we enjoyed watching you guys experience our game. Hello everyone, sorry for the long wait. If you haven't read patch notes 0.2.2 please at least read the paragraph at the bottom; it will give you some more context about the future update schedule of Contingency Plan. I meant every word, and thank you all so much for playing. It took longer than I expected to get internet at my new apartment and my first few months at work were very exciting. It thrills me that I get to do what I love as a job and have a game to develop for all you lovely people as well, but my 9-5 is working in Unity and sometimes when I come home, looking at more Unity is not necessarily the first thing I want to do. I hope you…
- Contingency Plan 0.2.3 Patch Notes - 28 July 2024
Gameplay Added a penalty for flying too far away from the playable area. The ship will take 5 damage straight to health every 3 seconds in the danger zone. There is a clear indication when you are approaching danger and an arrow pointing you to the closest way back into safety. Scrap Added models for all scrap objects instead of being capsules Removed despawn timers (they now despawn on warp start) Added lens flares to space scrap to be able to see them easier (will be more useful once enemy ships are functional) QoL Tuned back the ship flight direction particles, it was previously generating way too many particles Made the exit vector waypoint look towards the ship using a different method; should look better and be easier to spot Planned Enemy ships are currently highest priority Movement stick deadzone settings to be added to the settings menu Settings to Invert certain axes of ship…
- Contingency Plan 0.2.2 Patch Notes - 27 July 2024
Hello everyone, I took a break from development for a few days, but now I am back with a few changes for you. Thanks for playing! QoL: New player onboarding - Added text prompts around the ship explaining many aspects and systems of the ship, as well as a general outline of how to play. These labels can be enabled and disabled from the settings menu. Added settings persistence between sessions. Added some particles around the ship (externally) to help show direction and speed of movement in flight. Added nametags on players to be able to more easily tell who is who. Gameplay: Added player "ragdolls" which spawn when a player dies, giving better feedback and cues to other players when someone dies. Also it's funny. Added a penalty for dying - 15 damage straight to the ship's hull. Let me know what you think of this change. (also added a warning to the respawn button in the menu about thi…
- Contingency Plan 0.2.1 Patch Notes - 22 July 2024
Bugfixes: Fixed the critical issue introduced in update 0.2 where on most occasions, the ship would not be in a valid area once you exit warp jump. Sorry it took so long. Added a display for credits to the ship inventory display Gameplay: Added ways to obtain higher-level scrap (killing enemies and completing objectives) QoL: Added respawn button to settings menu to unstuck yourself if necessary Planned: Settings to Invert certain axes of ship controls Better client experience for rover training level Better guards/incentive to keep the player ship inside the playable area besides invisible walls, such as damage to the ship (as well as an indication on how to get back) Better new player onboarding Movement stick deadzone settings to be added to the settings menu Better indications of movement direction and speed for flying the ship Enemy ships
- Contingency Plan 0.2.0 Patch Notes - Inventory Display - 18 July 2024
Features: Introduced a display for the ship's inventory, as well as completely reworking the backend of the inventory for much more scalable and versatile use in the future. The ship inventory was always being tracked but was not being displayed properly to clients, so we removed it from the shipping build when we released. It has now been fixed, reintroduced, and the time has been taken to fix it properly so that our inventory system can be used much more flexibly in future updates. Bug Fix: Added a check when starting a warp jump to reload the ship's turrets, hopefully fixing issues where clients would see incorrect turret positions or not see the camera screen at all.
- Contingency Plan 0.1.1 Patch Note - 17 July 2024
Added a player respawn trigger to the starting scene to mitigate an issue where players were clipping out of bounds and getting stuck.
- Meet The Developers: Cameron Caulkins - 15 July 2024
Hello my name is Cameron Caulkins First of all, I am extremely proud to have been able to work on this project with the rest of the group. I got into coding from playing Minecraft and learning how to break down the game into its rules. After learning from that I started being able to make my own rules and create something of my own. I didn’t work on too much of the VR setup and network setup, but I did help out with both where needed. I think the coolest part of working on this project was being able to make something and play with it in a life-scale scenario. Something as simple as a cube with no friction was super fun to toss around, or being able to walk around in an environment to see the details up close. I worked on the enemy AI for this game and I am quite happy with how it turned out. My main concern for making the AI for this project was "nick-picky" details since you would be…

- Meet The Developers: Dean Brannen - 8 July 2024
My name is Dean Brannen, I am another one of the devs who worked on Contingency Plan. I am super excited to finally see a solid version of this game come to completion. It marks a very large and influential part of my career, and this game being put on this kind of marketplace is really insane to me and such an amazing opportunity. This game spawned from a concept I had written down about 6 months prior to the project while trying to think of some things to do in my free time. The project was too ambitious for the little time I had at that moment, so I had the idea to do it for my final. My teammates agreed it would be a good place to start and expand upon. I was in charge of deep space entities, gameplay obstacles, and the asteroid boss fight plus the level that goes along with that boss fight. I was also in charge of the loot that entities drop and how they interface with the ship sys…
- Update About the Release Date of Contingency Plan - 8 July 2024
Hello everyone! Our originally planned release date was the 7th, today. We submitted our game for review 5 days ago but likely the 4th of July has impacted their 2-3 day estimation, which we did not account for. We have a build ready to go live as soon as we get approval from Valve, so stay tuned! We probably should have submitted for review much earlier but there were still some things that needed to be fixed. This is our first time doing anything like this so we were unaware that we could continue to push updates while in the review process; you live and learn! Sorry for the inconvenience.
- Meet The Developers: Camden Wickus - 2 July 2024
Hey everyone! my name is Camden Wickus, and I'm one of the devs working on Contingency Plan. Pictured also is another of our hard-working employees, Eevee, who was instrumental in the development process via her impeccable supervision. This game has been a labor of love from just 4 devs over the course of almost 6 months now, and I'm excited for the release to finally be right around the corner. This project was a way for all of us to grow our skills as developers, and touch on as many aspects of the development process as possible. To do this, each of us had to wear a lot of different hats. Personally, I developed the main VR rig, along with the handheld weapons, inventory system, UI, and all of the Steamworks netcode that enables multiplayer interactions. I also designed and developed a couple of the dockable environments in the game, but you'll have to discover those for yourself! I…
- Meet The Developers: Thomas Konkel - 30 June 2024
Hello everyone! I'm Thomas Konkel, one of the developers working on Contingency Plan. I had a neat idea to make some meet-the-developer posts to keep you fine folks with something to sink your teeth into between now and the 7th (when we release!) So let's get started! I graduated from High School in 2022 with a distinguished academic diploma and as Valedictorian from College in 2024 with a Bachelor's in Game Development and a Course Director's Award. I'm also an Eagle Scout. So basically if the term nerd had a physical manifestation, I would probably be it. My favorite subjects were, and still are, engineering and physics. In my spare time I usually just play games - but I also enjoy tinkering with the hardware and software of computers and other tech, and would consider myself rather fluent in most related subjects; if not, then I am eager to learn. I also like bowling -- couldn't figu…
- Contingency Plan Releasing Soon! - 20 June 2024
On the 6th of this month, we showed off a demo version of our game at Full Sail University's final project showcase. The event went extremely well as we received a lot of new eyes on our game and a lot of valid feedback. We took a 2-week break from development after this monumentous milestone, but we are now back at it. There's a few things to fix up and a few things we want to improve on our current build before we hit public release. Our current projected Early Access release date is the 7th of July. As a small student team of highly dedicated game developers, we sincerely hope you enjoy our first Steam-published title. It has been a lot of fun to work on such a complex and, honestly way over-scoped, title. We expect to run into some issues so please leave feedback about anything - positive or negative. Steam form posts are the best way to notify us of bugs and to give us feedback, an…
