- Researchers Diary Day 14 - 15 April 2025
Removed - Got rid of the floating inventory, it just caused so much trouble, and the novelty was rather trash. Now you can grab items directly from your building menu inventoryAdded - Stairs_7 mirror variant of the stairs with one railing, throw an iron into research station to unlockAdded - Machines can be placed on stairs, except the diagonal stairs, I will need to think of something to make this work Fixed - With fruits being smaller, their actual location on plants needed to be adjusted Fixed - Seeds created with fabricator could not be placed in planter due to naming conflict Fixed - When construction tool is not held, lines are not rendered, and deconstruction is not triggered by accident (you can still switch modes without grabbing it, depending on feedback this might be disabled as well) Fixed - For whatever reason the players collision object was tilted, which led to some funky…
- Researchers Diary Day 13 - 13 April 2025
I had a couple of busy days.Biggest highlights are probably the UI additions and Steam integration. You can now unlock achievements. There is just one for now though. Other than that just a lot of coding, reworking, rethinking. Next week will hopefully result in more content for players. Added - Steam Achievements implementation Added - Created some UI icons Added - Plant 1 fruits can now be eaten Added - Fabricator can convert fruit into seeds Added - Consumable effects are shown in fabricator Added - Items in construction menu are now highlighted on pointer over events Added - Pickaxe will emit sparks when harvestable item is hit Changed - Unified item info area. Research, Fabricator, Building menu now all have the same layout, which will make it easier to beautify at some point Changed - Silicon Vein spawns 3 silicon. Requires now 3 smashes with pickaxe Changed - Plant 1 has been rot…
- Researchers Diary Day 12 - 11 April 2025
Playable Alpha now syncs its save with the cloud. Discord
- Researchers Diary Day 11 - 10 April 2025
Added - Planter 1 now needs to be powered. When not powered, plants will stop growing, but they don't wither Added - Powerconnector 2. A nifty little pole that can be placed on ground, walls and inside caves Added - All items that fall through map will respawn above the grey cube object Fixed - All bugs related to Planter 1 should be gone Discord
- Researchers Diary Day 10 - 9 April 2025
Added - Planter 1 and plant 1 are working now. May contain bugs, please report. Mechanics: Plant a seed in a planter and watch it grow Remove the seed at any time, it will destroy the plant, but return your seed.Once fully grown you can harvest fruits. You do not need to harvest all, just grab a snack and leave the others, they will be saved (but harvest the plant first if you want to remove the seed!) Discord
- Researchers Diary Day 9 - 7 April 2025
Changed - Render Engine. It is now possible to have 255 Lights per object in sight. With caves being 1 big mesh this is needed for now. In the long run caves will need to be split up into smaller meshes Added - Plant 1, Seed and Fruit. No game mechanic yet Added - Pickaxe. Grab behind your head to spawn itAdded - Harvestable items. Basically, big chunks that can be broken down with the pickaxe into collectible items. They do respawn after a while Added - Silicon Vein. Smash it with the pickaxe to harvestAdded - Running. Left stick pressed (just once), twice the speed of walking. Resets when let go of left stick (technically when below a threshold) Added - Wall Lamp can now be attached to walls, including cave walls Added - Powerconnector can now be attached to walls, creating a counterpart on the other side. Great to get power through walls Added - Another lamp. Great for cave dwelling…
- Researchers Diary Day 8 - 4 April 2025
Added - Cave 1, no content yet Added - Flashlight extension at construction tool Added - Construction tool has a "no mode" setting, which hides the ray as this is distracting in caves Fixed - When selecting respawn in main menu it did not reset, so you always spawned at the respawn point Discord
- Researchers Diary Day 7 1/2 - 3 April 2025
Fixed - Base building: Window glass correct height Fixed - Crafting consumes correct amount of items Fixed - UI interaction ray was reduced too much, it is now at 2 meters Discord
- Researchers Diary Day 7 - 3 April 2025
Added - Input and output items to Algae Hub so you know what to add and what the output will be Added - Settings tab (in game menu) Added - Research Station (heavy WIP), enables unlocking of recipes Added - Planter (heavy WIP) Settings - Move construction tool forward and backward for your convenience Settings - Adjust player height Discord
- Researchers Diary Day 6 - 29 March 2025
And here is a day 0 patch :P Adding missing colliders to various object. Adding a new message that spawns in front of player view. For now, only "Inventory Full" exists. All UIs update on item pickup/use. E.g. fabricator item requirements will toggle colour if the item is added to inventory or removed from it. Same for building menu. Fixed a bug in Battery Generator when no grid is present. With no present grid the battery would just pop out and error a lot. Streamlined inventory code. Some weird double placement occurred.
- Researchers Diary Day 5 - 29 March 2025
The time has come. Demo is out the door. Keep in mind that this is very very early and there is by far no finished game, yet. You can build a base, various machines, spawn asteroids, and much more. Toy around and let me know if this is worth putting more work into. Reddit Discord
- Researchers Diary Day 4 - 6 March 2025
The first chest dummy is finished! As this is mega early game I don't think there will be more chests needed. You can carry two chests with you, one in each hand, technically that alone gives you an extra 16 slots of inventory space. 8 slots per chest. I am still trying to find posture appreciating mechanics and I like the auto opening when dropped. That way you don't need to crouch to interact with chests and it's convenient for seated players. The chest handles themselves can be grabbed, but also distance grabbed, therefore you don't need to get into the vicinity of the handle if you don't care/can't. Currently it is within base building, you can place it with all the snapping that comes with it. But unlike other machines, you can pick it up and carry with you, if you like.
- Researchers Diary Day 3 - 3 March 2025
The very first machine is done! Or at least the dummy. Why this is an important step: Inputs and Outputs for machines are defined Recipes, while hardcoded for now, work as intented It only works when powered on, which is a whole can of worms to get working It has a monitor displaying stuff It saves and loads as expected With all machines following the same principle input -> do something when powered -> output, this basically covers all machines. Plus, I could reuse the same code for saving and loading storage items. Shelves, cabinets, done. Great!
- Researchers Diary Day 2 - 3 March 2025
There is now a reddit available for up to date news. I am still a lazy blob, therefore take up-to-date with a grain of salt. https://www.reddit.com/r/playablealpha_vr/ And base building is pretty much done. Wall attachments and ceiling attachments or still a to do. You can build pretty crazy bases. It is now a very modular base building. https://playablealpha.com/link-images/base.jpg
- Researchers Diary Day 1 - 11 February 2025
Welcome to the first big news for Playable Alpha. Firstly I want to apologize for everyone who is still in it for a looter shooter. It is now a survival game on a newly discovered planet. Making a shooter in VR turned out to be in insane amount of work, so I pulled the plug before it pulls mine. The game is slowly reaching a playble state and the demo is in full swing on its way. Here is a current state of affairs video. Keep in mind it will be a version 0.00001 so don't expect too much .. BUT here is a rundown of what is already implemented: 1. Survival mechanics: Health, oxygen, water, food 2. Base Building basics: Everything planet surface related, e.g. solar panels, wind turbines, fabricator 3. Powergrid mechanic. Yes there are powergrids. 4. Jetpack mechanic 5. Saving and loading, though for the first demo release it might be a one slot only save 6. VR Player with hands, there is n…
