- Broken Psyche Demo Releases.... TOMORROW - 29 August 2024
Just about that time! I really wanted to make more announcements earlier, but there were some complications with the Steam servers. Whether it was my end or not it doesn't really matter. What does matter is I finally get to showcase some gameplay for Broken Psyche for you to play. Be sure to wishlist and follow my social media so you can get your hands on the demo soon as possible. Thank you for your support, and I am looking forward to tomorrow!
- Demo Delayed (Sorry) - 17 August 2024
I really hate that I am here to let you all know that the demo for Broken Psyche will be delayed. While some of it is due to quality control, I have to own up and say I totally forgot that Steam has added a new Demo store page feature, which includes days of extra reviews. If I had any hope to release the demo on the 8th, I needed to submit it much earlier, while still crunching my deadline to mere hours. The devlog for next Friday will still go forward, as well as the announcement of the release of the demo in the future. The good news other than a better quality demo, is I might have the time and resources to localize the entire game! I apologize for anyone excited for the demo, but I promise the demo will come back with HUUGE quality improvements. Thank you all, and I hope to see you all next week. :]
- Devlog #6 - 2 August 2024
It's a very exciting week, because the demo for Broken Psyche is coming August 8th! Just 6 days away. It's really crazy how fast time flies by. And with a new week, there's more updates! This week I was finishing the intro sequence to the game, as well as ironing out the controller support. I will also show you some new status effects I've added that will hopefully (or not) come across. First up, the intro sequence. Here I have decided between 2 stylized choices. One is if the players screen will be covered by a burlap mask or not. Here in this short I posted yesterday: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/EAdC442lgN8 You can see the 2 versions. Ultimately I decided on the burlap mask variant, as I thing it adds more to the mystery and claustrophobe of the game. However I am definitely open to your opinion. As for controller support, I have done the best I can to make controllers and clean an…
- Demo Delayed - 29 July 2024
Hey there friends! While I am disappointed to be making an announcement that isn't the release of the Broken Psyche demo, I am still proud of what I have done so far and very happy with the direction of the game so far. With that being said, the demo will still be delayed until the 8th so I can continue fixing some bugs and expanding on important features so they can work to a level I am satisfied with. I have also done little to no marketing for the game, so I will be making this a good opportunity to help get my name out there and possibly attract more people to try out the demo. I apologize to anyone who was looking forward to it, but I promise the wait will be worth it. Thanks again for checking in, and I will have a devlog next Friday once again to let you know what I've been working on. Looking forward to seeing you on the 8th! :]
- Broken Psyche Devlog #5 - 20 July 2024
July 28th is when the first demo for Broken Psyche will be live on both Steam and itch.io. There that's all you probably came for. There was a lot of work I needed to get done this week (mainly bug fixes) but I am in a confident state right now and will have a playable demo for the 28th of July. A big challenge this week was definitely getting the save games to work properly. Saving the players position and simple stats were easy enough, but I really am trying to implement a dynamic save and load system into Broken Psyche. You most likely will not see a lot of the big features of the save system as my plans for it are a lot more ambitious than I originally intended. As for now, here is how the load system will look like, and some stats you can see on the load game screen: Getting Unreal Engine to properly screenshot the screen to save as a thumbnail image was probably the most frustrati…
- Broken Psyche Devlog #4 - 14 July 2024
First off before I say thank you for checking in on another devlog, I have to apologize for being a day late on this one. I have been hard at work really trying to get you guys the most horrifying game I can give. Secondly, I was also very busy on Friday so I didn't have much time to type this, but here I am now! I will keep it short and sweet and just let you all know that I am planning on releasing a "mini demo" this month that will be a sort of gauge to see how smooth you guys like the gameplay. It will include some very early puzzles and scares, but most importantly will let you guys/galls know the quality I am trying to ship the full game in. I have plans for the 20th of July, but it could be earlier, could be slightly later. I don't have an exact date because I need to get the Steam verification first. I will surprise you with what I worked on this week with the demo or next devlo…
- Broken Psyche Devlog #3 - 5 July 2024
Hello once again, and welcome to my 3rd devlog of Broken Psyche, and for my American friends out there, happy belated 4th of July! Today I want to touch and showcase a little of the stress mechanic will work. There are many more mechanics and details related to the feature itself, but I will touch on some basic ideas on it. I will also showcase how stress buffs and debuffs work. Here is a video showcasing how you can turn a stress debuff into a stress "buff". Depending on the stressful situation the player is in, an icon on the top left or demonstrate that is worrying the player. In this situation, the player is in a dirty room that is a mess, so he has a debuff that is constantly adding stress to the player. You can, however, revert this by cleaning the room entirely, making it then more comfortable so the debuff turns into a buff now actually lowering the players stress. https://youtu…
- Broken Psyche Devlog #2 - 29 June 2024
Welcome back to another Broken Psyche devlog! This week I want to touch on the menu, and the gimmicks that I have created to make it unique and "fun". I also want to touch on the settings and accessibility settings the game will have. If you have anymore settings you'd like to see, please reach out and let me know. Here is an un-edited video of the menu + the menu music. The idea of the menu was to invoke a sneak peak into the halls of the asylum the player will end up walking through. Interestingly enough, when I first made the hallways they were relative to the real halls in the actual game. But I then noticed how plain and same-y they all looked, so I added a bunch of new props into the menu halls, which eventually translated to me editing and spicing up the actual halls in-game. All the halls are randomly generated to appear, so you may see some repeat halls. As of right now there a…
- Broken Psyche Devlog #1 - 23 June 2024
Take a look into The Artist's room and what twisted secrets they hold. When making scenery for Broken Psyche I really try to balance out the colors and brightness of the setting. As a horror game I try to keep things dark and mysterious, but in an artistic sense I like to give light to things that tell a story. Perhaps in a dark room you see just an average table with blood, but with the (hopefully) correct lighting you can see much more. Now it looks like a busy desk of someone who is up to nefarious things. Here is an example of the room now, and a darker version that wasn't visually readable. I am curious to hear if you think the darker adds to the mystery, or seeing more of the room allows for more exploration and story telling. Here is a naked run cycle of a character in the first episode of Broken Psyche. Deranged and out for blood, the running animation I made was made to emphasi…
