- Playtest is dead, all hail Beta test - 20 August 2026
Playtest is dead, all hail Beta test We're closing our separate playtest app. It served us well, but from now on we're putting all our effort into one final version of the game, tested here on the Beta branch, ahead of the eventual full release. As we approach the end of Hungry Horrors' development, we need more feedback from all of you so we can finish the campaign and the whole storyline. We now have Part 1 of the endgame content ready for testing, with Part 2 coming soon. It's not balanced yet, there are probably still bugs, and some elements are missing. We'll keep improving it until we're happy with the result, and your feedback along the way is a huge part of that. Version 0.3.6 is live on the Beta branch ONLY. It's a big one: the Megaliths biome, our final biome, is ready for testing. This update also includes some, but not all, of the content that comes after it, including the r…

- Banquet Mode is out now - 19 June 2026
Banquet mode is out now. What is Banquet mode? Banquet is a new way to play Hungry Horrors. Where Campaign is a long-form roguelite with persistent progression, Banquet strips things back to a single run. Three acts. Permanent death. No meta-progression carrying over. You earn a new dish after every monster battle. Monster tastes are shown before each encounter rather than discovered through play. At the start you pick a princess variant: Basic, Random, Stinky, Clumsy, Diet, or Lazy. Then you're in with no safety nets. It's shorter and harder than Campaign, and decisions carry more weight when there's nothing to fall back on. Demo update 0.2.21 If you're playing the free demo, this update brings a lot of new content. Banquet mode is now in the demo. And for the first time, the modes and modifiers from the main game are also available to try: Vanilla - the standard experience, same as the…

- Introducing Spicy Mode and Much More - 5 May 2026
Introducing Spicy Mode and Much More Hey everyone, Patch 0.2.9 is live, and while we put out big updates regularly, this one feels more revolutionary than incremental. Before we get into it, we want to say thank you. The feedback we've had from you over the past few months, both the praise and the constructive criticism, has been incredibly useful. We've read every review, every Discord message, every bug report, and every thread on Steam. A lot of what's in this patch comes directly from things you've told us. The recurring theme from more experienced deckbuilder players was that the game can feel a bit too easy and too repetitive once you've learned the systems, and that there isn't much pulling you back in once you've cleared the final biome. We took that seriously. This patch is our response, and there's more coming. Here's what's changed and why. 🌶️ Spicy Mode Spicy Mode is a hard…

- Patch 0.2.9 - 4 May 2026
Patch Notes - 0.2.9Hey everyone, big update for you today: 0.2.9First off, thank you for all the positive reviews and constructive feedback. We're really happy with how the game has been received, and we do listen. One thing we've heard from more experienced deckbuilder players is that the game can feel a bit too easy and too repetitive, with not much left to do once you reach the last biome. This patch is our response: new modes, a rework of Horror mechanics, and a rework of dish mechanics. And for anyone who likes the game as it is, Vanilla mode keeps things close to how they were, and all your existing saves are automatically set to it.🔥 New FeaturesGame ModesVanilla Mode: the standard experience; all existing saves default to thisSpicy Mode: harder adventure for experienced players: potions and seasonings don't persist on death; biomes scale up on revisitCulinary modifier: dishes a…
