- Fablelight on Kickstarter! - 11 September 2026
Fablelight is Coming to Kickstarter September 29th!It’s happening.Fablelight is launching on Kickstarter on September 29th! For the past couple of years, I’ve been building Fablelight into the game I’ve always wanted to make: a colorful single-player fighting game RPG inspired by fighting games, Saturday morning cartoons, and the kind of weird fantasy adventures where you slowly assemble a party of lovable idiots. You’ll fight through a story, build a party of characters, learn new abilities through your relationships with them, discover new equipment and upgrades, and, most importantly, beat up a lot of people, creatures, and monsters. The Kickstarter will help me push Fablelight much further.I’ll be revealing new fighters, bosses, areas, crossover characters, physical rewards, plushies, and some extremely ridiculous high-tier rewards throughout the campaign. There will also be a few surp…
- Lexington Comic & Toy Con this weekend! - 3 September 2026
Fablelight is Coming to LEXCON This Weekend! This weekend, September 4–6, I’m bringing Fablelight to the Lexington Comic & Toy Convention at the Central Bank Center! I’ll have the latest build set up and playable all weekend. I’m currently expecting to be in the board game area, so if you’re at the convention, come hunt me down and play a few rounds.Fablelight has changed a LOT since the last time I showed it locally. New mechanics, new character stuff, multi-enemy fights, plenty of balance changes, and probably several new ways for players to break things that I haven't discovered yet. (That last part is half the reason I keep bringing it to events.) So whether you’re into fighting games, RPGs, indie games, or you just happen to walk past the booth and think “what the hell is that?”, come grab a controller. Play the game.Fight your friends.Fight me.Break something. Then tell me what you…
- Weekly Update - 19 June 2026
Hey everyone,A new Fablelight pre-alpha build is now available to play-testers. Check out the patch notes here: Patch Notes This update focuses on single-player functionality. The biggest additions are the new Pushblock mechanic, expanded Arcade Run structure, new story examples for Rojas, Krog, and Granny, updated backgrounds, improved results screen functionality, and the first real pass on music/audio implementation. This is still very early, but the build should be much easier to understand and more representative of where Fablelight is heading. Moving forward, you can expect updates every Saturday morning Have fun! and let me know what you think.
- Fablelight Development Update, What's Next? - 15 June 2026
Fablelight Development Update, What's Next?A little over a week ago, Fablelight was featured at Trials of Olympus 9 for its first public tournament appearance. The goal wasn't to prove the game was finished. The goal was to answer a much simpler question:Can this actually work? The answer was a clear yes.The event gave me exactly what I needed: real feedback from real fighting game players.Since then, I've been working through that feedback and putting together a new pre-alpha build focused on improving the overall experience. Blocking has been redesigned, meter gain has been refined, Granny's infamous turret has received a long list of fixes and nerfs, controller support has begun, and the overall presentation of the game is becoming easier for new players to understand. The game is still very early, but it is already in a much stronger place than the Olympus build. So when will Fablelight…
- And the winner is... - 8 June 2026
Uncle George takes the Grand Finals at Trials of Olympus #9 The first ever cash money bracket was held in the home of the legendary Muhammad Ali, but on Saturday, June 6th, it was Uncle George's Granny Boom that stung like a bee.I showed up early just in case anything needed to be set up or fixed, but that ended up being one of the best parts of the day. A few players got to try the game before the bracket started, I got to meet members of the local FGC, and Button Checker (our amazing TO, thank you) even invited me to join live commentary on stream. I am not a competitive player, and I have definitely never run a bracket before, so watching the whole thing unfold was fascinating. Players started slow as they learned the game, but pretty quickly they were finding real tech. Granny Boom became the villain of the night with some truly degenerate turret and projectile nonsense, while Rojas…
- Fablelight Tournament? - Play the game early, win CA$H - 5 June 2026
Tomorrow, June 6, Fablelight is joining the lineup at Trials of Olympus 9 in Louisville, KY, alongside 2XKO, Guilty Gear Xrd, and more. The Fablelight bracket is free entry, with a $25 + grab bag prize. This is a weird little milestone: the first-ever Fablelight tournament.Even better/worse: the tournament organizer has already found an infinite. So yes. The game is still cooking. The players are already breaking it. That means it’s working. If you’re nearby, come hang out, try the game, enter the bracket, or just watch people bully my prototype in public. - Ready? Fight! - 7 May 2026
Fablelight is Heading to LexPlay – April 8thThis weekend, I’ll be showcasing Fablelight at LexPlay, an indie game event happening right here in Lexington at The Hill.If you’ve been following the project, this is another big step in shaping the game through real player feedback. Every time I bring Fablelight to an event, something changes, mechanics get refined, ideas get challenged, and new moments emerge that I wouldn’t have found working solo.LexPlay is especially exciting because it brings together a wide mix of indie developers and players. Some people will be fighting game veterans, others might be picking up a controller for the first time, and honestly, that mix is where Fablelight has been shining the most.At recent events, I’ve seen:Players laughing and reacting to the chaos mid-matchGroups forming rivalries after just a few roundsPeople asking for more characters and mechanics…
- The Controls - 20 April 2026
How to Fight in Fablelight (Work in Progress)Fablelight is built on a simple idea:Easy to pick up. Hard to put down.At its core, the game uses a 4-button system, designed to feel familiar to fighting game players while still being approachable for newcomers.🎮 Basic ControlsMovement is exactly what you’d expect:Move left and rightJump and Super JumpCrouchDash (yes, even in the air)Hold back to blockIf you’ve ever played a traditional 2D fighter, you’ll feel right at home.🕹️ The 4-Button SystemEach character uses four main buttons:Light Attack – Fast, safe, great for starting combosMedium Attack – Balanced option with solid rangeHeavy Attack – Slower, but hits hardUnique Attack – This is where each character breaks the rulesThat last one is the key.Instead of every character sharing the same structure, the Unique Attack defines their identity.⚔️ Character ExamplesRojas Her Unique Attack…
- Character Spotlight: Granny Boom - 13 April 2026
Every fighting game has that one character. The one people pick as a joke… …and then suddenly no one’s laughing anymore. In Fablelight, that character is Granny Boom.At first glance, she’s exactly what she sounds like, an old lady with a bad attitude and way too many weapons. But once players get their hands on her, something clicks.Granny Boom isn’t just comic relief. She’s control. Her kit revolves around space, pressure, and chaos:Handgun to keep opponents in checkRifle for long-range dominanceExplosives that force movement and create openingsA close-range melee swing when things get scrappyShe doesn’t rush you down; she makes you come to her. And when you do, you’re already playing her game.At recent playtests, Granny has consistently become the fan favorite. New players gravitate toward her because she’s fun and explosive (literally), while more experienced players quickly realize how…
- How Fablelight started as a JAM game - 31 March 2026
Today, I wanted to share a little bit about the journey this game has taken, because it was a long winding road to get to this point. Fablelight didn’t start as a fighting game.It started with a single character known as the barbarian. He was loud, expressive, a little ridiculous, and for some reason… he could talk to slime. I made him for a game jam, but he stuck with me. I kept coming back to him, sketching new animations, imagining the world he lived in, thinking about who he would meet. That eventually grew into something bigger. Rumble WarriorsThe idea became a full beat ’em up: a colorful, cartoon-inspired fantasy game with light RPG elements and a sense of humor about the genre itself. But, I felt like Krog was too dumb of a character to be the protagonist of a game, so he was joined by a karate fighter and an old woman with guns (Granny Boom). The goal was to make a funny beat 'e…
- We are officially coming to Steam! - 30 March 2026
Hey everyone!I’m Rafa, the solo developer behind Fablelight, and I'm super excited to have the Steam page up and running. This is a story-driven 2D fighting game that blends traditional fighting game mechanics, RPG progression, branching paths, and a full single-player campaign. Think of it as a fighter that doesn't skimp on the single-player content. If you're the type of person who misses games like Final Fantasy VII or loves Futurama or maybe just someone who doesn't love the competitive online grind of modern fighters, then this game is for you.I just wanted to say hello and thanks for supporting the game. I want to encourage you all to start a conversation. Let's talk...If you’ve got any questions, feedback, or thoughts, drop them here. I’ll be checking in regularly. Also curious:👉 What caught your interest about the game?👉 What kind of characters or playstyles do you want to see?T…
