- AMA update - Part 3 - 1 June 2026
We’re excited to share the final part of our Ask Me Anything event! This one is a little different from the previous two entries. Instead of another long read, this time we´re bringing you a video. Several team members sat down to answer the questions you — our community — submitted earlier this year. And since it´s a video format, you´ll also get to see a bit more of the game in motion. As a little bonus, we´d like to share two additional pictures in this update. Our talented artist, Marius, has been hard at work on the M35 truck. In one of the previous updates, you had the chance to admire its exterior — and this time, we’re letting you peek inside as well. Lander also provided us with yet another bit from the Missing in Action. We are often asked about Guard Duty. Rest assured, development hasn´t stopped. While the single‑player campaign of Operation Black Mesa remains our highest prior…
- AMA Update - Part 2 - 8 May 2026
Greetings everyone! It’s time to answer some more questions, isn´t it? Think of this as a small appetizer before we serve you the main course a bit later.Just like in Part 1 of our AMA update, we’re also including a bit of media. This time, the spotlight goes to Brandon´s “Welcome to Black Mesa”, and as a little bonus, we´re showing a glimpse of the deferred fog system Lander has been experimenting with a lot recently. We’re also pleased to see how positively the community reacted to our previous update. We´ve received a number of applications from people eager to join the team and help us push the project toward the finish line. The team is growing steadily, which is always a good sign. We´re still looking for reinforcements in several departments, so if you´re in search of a project to contribute to, Operation: Black Mesa might be the right fit for you. Feel free to check our current o…
- AMA UPDATE - PART 1 - 30 April 2026
We’re back as promised and starting our AMA update series with a brief look at what we’ve been working on behind the scenes. Our team is currently focused on two major goals — one of them being a fully playable build of the game from start to finish. We’re well on our way toward achieving this milestone. Alongside that, we’ve begun a cleanup of our source code and have been addressing several issues hidden within our improved version of the Source engine.Today we’re sharing two new screenshots showcasing additional level work by our talented Lead Level Designer, Lander Van Hove, known as The Comedian. These images reflect our ongoing efforts to push the game forward and meet the internal goals we’ve set for the project. We’d also like to highlight that we’re actively hiring. To accelerate development, we’re looking for more programmers, animators, and organic artists to join our team. If…

- Welcome to Black Mesa - Laser puzzle (DEV.BLOG) - 4 July 2025
In this little dev. blog about the construction of the laser level, we would like to give an insight into the collaboration of our work and the construction of a level in which Opposing force first real puzzle was introduced: the laser puzzle. To finish this within a limited time of 1 months, a group of several developers were brought together into a dedicated project team. In the original game, the puzzle consists of a few lasers with an iconic colour: green and purple, and the player is challenged to explore their surroundings. During a brainstorming session, it soon became clear that there was a need for a more elaborate puzzle so that the player could make more use of his surroundings to get to the next environment. The idea was to move the lasers through a few locations so that there would be several options to get to a solution. With this idea, a smaller project team was formed to…
