- DAR version 1.5.5 has been released! - 19 July 2026
Another round of small tweaks; let's get into it! It was noticed that sometimes the game would be rather skimpy about giving out the medal and achievement for defeating the Zone 6 boss if you were playing on Practice Mode - this should no longer be the case. Any future practice run clears should grant the appropriate medal and achievement! Additionally, a small visual bug that could occur on the item selection screen under some circumstances that caused the selection cursor to become thinner than intended has been corrected. It really didn't actually cause any trouble but hey, don't think I don't see you not giving it your all on the job, selection cursor! That's all for today, thanks everyone!
- DAR Version 1.5.4 has been released! - 12 July 2026
It's been a while, and a lot has been going on behind the scenes! This is just a small update that should hopefully improve the experience new players have when completing their first run!I've seen some players finish their first attempt and successfully check out the ability to upgrade their chosen craft using the Upgrade Shop, but oftentimes players miss out on claiming their rewards for any medals they earned prior to spending the gems on upgrades. Now, if you've got rewards left to claim, you'll notice that the Medals menu flashes to notify you.Hopefully this leads to less confusion and an easier time earning your first few upgrades for brand new players.(Also, some strings here and there have been given a little bit of polish - don't let autocorrect rule your life, everyone!)Thank you all for enjoying DAR!
- D.A.R - V1.5.3 released! - 31 January 2026
Hey there, everyone! It's time for an update; just a small one this timeHere's what's changed:-Some text regarding medals and achievements has been made clearer to prevent confusion around their unlock conditions.-Some visual bugs in the opening and ending story screens have been fixed, you won't see some sections occasionally repeat themselves anymore (I hope!)-A visual bug that causes the Aiming tutorial text to overlap the item selection screen has been fixed. Props to those that saw this bug for clearing multiple enemy waves without ever aiming! That's all for today! Hope everyone is doing well, and thanks again!
- V1.5.2 - Prism Orb Tweaks - 14 August 2025
Just a small change with this version, mainly regarding the Prism Orb weapon. Previously it would rebound off bosses as if it had struck a regular enemy or wall, which could cause two problems that made it less than idea for general gameplay: 1) It could get "stuck" inside bosses if they teleported or entered the stage into an Orb. The Orb would then repeatedly deal damage, quickly dealing far more damage than intended in some circumstances. 2) If it rebounded off a boss and was sent careening around the screen, another Orb was unable to be fired by the player until the first one found a way to disappear, making it difficult to use effectively against the single-target boss enemies outside of the situations where it was getting stuck inside them. As a result, the following changes have been made: Prism Orbs no longer bounce off boss enemies, instantly dealing their damage and disappeari…
- V1.5.1 Hotfix - 13 August 2025
Whoops! I knew there'd be some odd bugs with the big changes behind the scenes. Some screens, particularly the Library screens, were misaligned due to a change in display code. This has been fixed. Also, the Codex medal was not being correctly granted. It should not be granted as intended! Thank you for the reports that allowed these to be swiftly fixed! Let me know if anything else remains an issue!
- Version 1.5.0 has arrived! - 13 August 2025
So, what's new?First of all, a new mode!RE-Endless, or "Endless REMIX" if it fit into the text box...Take on a never-ending version of the REMIX challenge! The bosses are harder, the enemies more diverse... Your goal is the same, though! Fight! Go for a high score! Also added in 1.5.0 is the new Medals system!Available from the main screen, Medals act as an alternate, offline-friendly version of Achievements.Actions that would previously grant Steam achievements will now also grant in-game medals with varying rewards of Gems to use, giving them some gameplay utility! You can check what requirements for each medal from the Medals screen, as well as be able to claim your rewards for any medals you have earned. These are all one-off rewards, so use them wisely! (Or don't, I'm not your boss!)Achievements will not retroactively grant medals, however - you'll have to earn those gems anew!Miscella…
- V1.4.1 has been released! - 28 June 2025
What, so soon!? Don't stress, this is just a minor update: some Japanese text fixes and some additional codex entries from D.A.R's resident Japanese language wizard, Tanuki Aogon! The way the Japanese text is rendered on the library screens has been updated very significantly behind the scenes - if any errors occur as a result, please let me know! Thanks for the support!
- Version 1.4.0 and TooManyGames 2025! - 27 June 2025
Are you attending TooManyGames 2025?Are you not attending, but plan on watching the official streams of the event?DAR - Deadly Alien Rogues will be featured in their indie games showcase! In addition, it's been nominated for the "Best Indie Shooter" category in their awards show!In gratitude for the support the game has received, I've added a feature that's been requested a few times since release: Lore. No, seriously! I get asked about it all the time! The "Codex" option in the main menu has now been extended and has become the "Library".The Library contains the original Codex, as well as the new Dossier and Intelligence options. The Dossier and Intelligence options act as standalone extensions to the Codex, though less focused on gameplay and more on the characters and world of DAR. Dossier contains character information, and Intelligence contains information about the galaxy at large. The…
- V1.3.3 - just a tiny little fix! - 30 March 2025
Just a small fix this time The Run End screen now correctly reports when you are playing REMIX modes - I accidentally forgot to extend the string table in that one instance... Nothing exciting, sorry!
- V1.3.2 - Additional Features! - 13 March 2025
Here's another small update for D.A.R! An option has been added to enable the "Combo Klaxon" - if it's hard to keep track of when your combo is about to expire in the heat of battle, this option will add a small icon near your ship and play warning sound when you've only got a few moments left to renew your combo. Hopefully this helps make keeping track of combos easier for those going for the biggest combo possible! In addition, the End of Run screen now displays a Run Time, regardless of the mode being played. This is the actual time spent playing during that run, inclusive of menus, not just gameplay time. This was a requested feature to help people better keep track of the time spent playing the game, or how long an individual run took. These are only very minor features, but perhaps they'll be appreciated by a small handful of people - so enjoy! Thanks again!
- 1.3.1 Hotfix - 12 March 2025
Just some minor fixes to Japanese text, courtesy of the absolutely legendary Tanuki Aogon! Thanks again!
- Version 1.3.0 is now available! - 12 March 2025
It's been a little while but that's right! Another major version! So, what's new to be found in 1.3.0? Two new unlockable modes! REMIX - a more difficult version of Standard featuring new enemy selections on every planet and altered, more challenging, boss fights! Expect to be fighting tricky foes from the very start - not even Minibosses will pull punches in REMIX, so consider this one for the experts out there! You'll want to use your Gems at every opportunity, or you might not be able to keep up with the difficulty of this mode! REMIX Rush - Want to challenge yourself against all the new boss fights? Use this mode to practice all the new battles, or push yourself to defeat them all as quickly as you can! Like Boss Rush, this is a time-based mode, so you'll really need to know your stuff if you want to land at the top of the leaderboards! If you've already defeated the DAR leader, you…
- V1.2.4 - Japanese Text Fixes and Tutorial Tweaks! - 27 December 2024
Wow, the new year is so close! I hope everyone is enjoying themselves! Just some super tiny changes this time: 1) Some Japanese language text has been modified for clarity 2) The tutorial was interacting strangely with the Prism Orb and Ray Gun weapon, so a bit of the code handling it has been tweaked. If anything breaks as a result of this, please let me know! That's all!
- V1.2.3 - A balance patch!? - 23 December 2024
Turns out the Prism Orb was way more powerful than I had expected in endless runs, as it racked up strength in an almost exponential fashion! Like, it would bring the game close to crashing from the sheer number of orbs you could get into play... The weapon has been hit with DAR's first nerf: You can now only have as many Orbs in play as you have maximum Stock! If you play to the weapons intended strength, keeping orbs in play by bouncing them to defeat multiple enemies with a single shot, rather than just randomly firing orbs everywhere and hoping to score kills, it's still a very powerful and capable weapon when powered up, but not the end-all automatic screen clear it could become on endless runs prior to this change! My apologies for the sudden change!
- V1.2.2 - Achievement Fix - 23 December 2024
Just a quick fix! The "Unfathomable Power" Achievement was not correctly being awarded when the requisite number of enemies were defeated. I messed up and borked the Steam API call for that Achievement, so the game was instead trying to re-unlock the "Unstoppable Force" Achievement. This is now fixed!
- V1.2.1 - Some quick fixes! - 21 December 2024
Hey there! Hope you're enjoying the new content in the V1.2.0 update! I'm rolling out a few quick fixes for some small bugs that appear in unusual circumstances: 1) If your movement speed was really high (in the 500% or greater area), and you also had the Turtle item, you'd sometimes experience a "brake failure" and your vehicle would swerve all over the place uncontrollably. This was hilarious, but unintentional and has now been fixed. 2) The game was still randomly declaring Boss Rush times as new records when they weren't. While I can't fault the game for its positivity and enthusiasm, I can fault it for being wrong. This has hopefully been fixed! If anything else comes up, let me know! Have fun, everyone!
- The V1.2.0 Content Update is here! - 19 December 2024
Happy holidays, everyone! Here's the second big content update for DAR! Three new characters have been added: Pocomagi, a mysterious, magical tanuki who can imbue his Rocket attacks with elemental fire! His craft, the Tanu Tank, is a heavily armed and lumbering vehicle, slower than every other ship. It's capable of dealing a ton of damage with its higher than normal base Shot Power and multi-hitting Rocket weapon! Primrose, court witch of a distant world armed with magical spheres called Prism Orbs! Her craft, the Properose, is less of a machine and more of a magical construct! It can't be loaded with any weapon other than the Prism Orb, so you'll need to master the use of this weapon to succeed! And D-06, a serious cybernetic warrior who comes armed with the deadly-precise Ray Gun weapon! Her craft, the Q-Beige, is extremely fast but extremely fragile. It comes pre-loaded with the Ray…
- V1.1.9 - Minor Patch - 12 December 2024
Hey again! Something super small with this update, perhaps the smallest thing so far: Following a fix made to prevent the game being too stingy with upgrades under certain circumstances, it was sometimes being too generous when playing on practice mode in other circumstances. This busted fix should now be fixed. Please let me know if see any unusual behaviour come from this particular patch! The next content patch is coming very soon!
- V1.1.8 - Just a tiny change! - 9 December 2024
This is an extremely minor update, and the following has been changed: -Swapping from the Inverse Gun was not properly awarding score multiplier as it should. This has been fixed! Coming up soon is the V1.2.0 update, featuring things such as additional characters and weapons to try! Development is progressing smoothly, so it's likely to be ready to roll in about a week's time - look forward to it!
- V1.1.7 - Available Now! - 7 December 2024
One bug fix and two display issues have been implemented with this version: Bug fix: -If you pressed confirm to select an upgrade item on the exact frame menu movement on the upgrade menu became possible, you might be unable to select any items at all. The game will now do a failsafe check to prevent you from being unable to obtain the correct number of items. Display fixes: -The item that extends the duration of the combo meter actually increases the meter by 25%, not the displayed 50% - this was due to a change in the specification of the item during development that I just forgot to reflect in the description. My bad! -If you reached the selection limit for an item then scrolled the cursor over the option to delete that item, the game might erroneously and temporarily display that you had hit the limit for other items. This was purely a display issue and is now fixed. That's it for n…
