Want to see more details of in-game Petrograd? Let us know in the comments! The first telephones appeared in the 19th century and were very different from modern ones. Instead of the familiar handheld receiver, they had two separate parts: an “ear” for listening, shaped like a funnel or lantern, and a “mouth” for speaking into. At first, people often mixed them up. In the first telephone booth, opened at 26 Nevsky Prospect, there was even a sign with a reminder: “Do not listen with the mouth and do not speak into the ear.”Residential buildings in St. Petersburg were heated mostly with firewood. It was delivered via the Neva River and unloaded into courtyards, where it was st…
- How We Came Up with The War of the Worlds: Siberia - 13 November 2025
Mass culture has created an image of the creative "Archimedes." When a person shouts "Eureka!", it means a brilliant idea has suddenly and unexpectedly popped into their head. This is how the resolution of creative torment is often portrayed. It's probably easier to understand this way, as explaining the actual creative process is very difficult – you need a vivid image. In reality, things aren't so naive. Even if the process of creative thinking were so random that everyone was just waiting for that one idea to come to them – how would you verify it? Is this the idea or not? In a script, we know that Archimedes is right and his "Eureka!" is justified, but in real life, millions of people come up with millions of ideas, and most of them won't be interesting even to their relatives. Good ideas come to those who have already put considerable effort into working on similar tasks. Chemists d…

We haven’t been active on our Steam page… until now. From now on, we plan to share development updates for The War of the Worlds: Siberia once a week. Today, we’re answering some of the most frequently asked questions about the game.— Why does the story take place before 1914, but the capital is called Petrograd instead of Saint Petersburg? — The game is set in an alternate universe, so names may differ from real-world events. Don’t expect strict historical accuracy in a game inspired by a science fiction novel.— Will there be DLCs, paid or free? — We’ll share more information about this later.— Will there be character customization? — Changing the character’s appearance isn’t planned, but their look may change as part of the story.— Which platforms will be available? — PC, and hopefully consoles. We’re designing the game with console controls in mind.— Will the game feature interconnec…
