  • Game Updates : July - 29 July 2026

Hey everyone, welcome back to another monthly update! This month we made some major changes to Dark Island: Faded Memories' art direction. As many of you know, the game originally leaned into a pretty retro visual style. But as development went on, a lot of other retro-inspired games came out, each carving out its own distinct art direction. On top of that, we simply didn't have enough time back then to reach the visual quality we were actually aiming for. That's changed now.We finally have the time to polish the game the way we always wanted, and one of our main goals is making the world as beautiful and immersive as possible. That's led to a handful of visual upgrades. One of the most visible changes is our new trees, but we've also started adding grass to select areas of the world — some of you have probably already spotted it in our recent videos.Honestly, I think this was one of the…

  • Game Updates : May - 9 June 2026

Greetings, everyone! This is Garu back again with another Monthly update! May was a big month. We added a ton to the game, and we're now really close to Test 10, the build that becomes our public demo right after. Almost everything below was in service of getting that build ready, so think of this as the road-to-the-demo update.New ArmorsFirst up: I finally added the three armors I'd announced but still owed you. So you've now got the druid, the jester, and the heavy red armor in-game. We're still hunting for proper names, so for now I'm announcing them by their dev names — the real ones will come once they stick.Taking to the Skies (in First Person)A few flight and movement updates landed this month.Dragon riding in first person - You can now ride in first person, and it changes the whole feel of being in the air. And also we have new clouds. I swapped in a new cloud set — they're genui…

  • Game Updates: April - 7 May 2026

Greetings, everyone!Hey everyone, welcome back to the monthly update. This one covers everything we worked on through April, and there's a lot to get through.🎮 Gamescom LATAM & The DemoFirst things first: Lorenz and I went to Gamescom Latam, and the five days there were honestly incredible. A massive thank you to everyone who stopped by the Venn Studios booth, took a photo with the dragon, and gave us feedback on the build. I'm not exaggerating when I say a lot of bugs got squashed thanks to that feedback — having hundreds of people put hands on the game in such a short window surfaced things we'd never have caught on our own.So sincerely: thank you for showing up and being part of it.The Dungeon — Five StagesThe big project this month was the dungeon I teased in last month's update. We originally planned four stages, but it ended up being five (these things happen). I won't spoil too…

  • Game Updates: February and March - 16 April 2026

Greetings, everyone! This is Garu, and welcome to our February–March update. These past two months have been incredibly productive for us. We made significant progress across our projects — especially toward the end of March, leading into early April as I’m writing this. Dragon System IntegratedOne of the biggest additions is that we’ve successfully integrated the dragon models and controls from Dragon Odyssey into Dark Island. This means we’re bringing one of the best features from DO — dragon riding — directly into the main game.We are currently using the Kuzan model, the fastest dragon from DOThe new camera system is highly dynamic, making traversal feel smooth and immersiveRiding the dragon — both in the main world and in the new dungeon — feels amazingI’m really excited to hear your feedback on this.New Dungeon – Early DevelopmentWe’re also planning a brand-new dungeon, which will pla…
