• A Patch, a Fix, and Some QoL - 3 October 2025

  Hi anyone! Another small update for BACKFIRE. Here's what has changed: Updated to latest version of Unity to address known vulnerability. Fixed bug that caused some save files to become corrupt after adjusting audio settings. Added options for windowed mode and alternative resolutions to the settings menu. There's a known issue in this build with the native Linux/SteamOS version: when you change screen resolution or switch to or from windowed mode frames will drop when taking damage during gameplay. Restarting the application fixes this issue. This issue has not been observed on the Windows version of BACKFIRE. Thanks for playing. Please keep reporting any bugs you find, and I'll catch you next time.

• Hotfix 3 - Found another soft-lock - 12 September 2025

  Hi anyone. Some small fixes for big problems: Fixed "hard mode unlocked" button sometimes not becoming active which caused a soft-lock. Fixed missing SFX on defeating the secret boss. Set the cursor to be confined in the game window. Thanks all. If you find bugs please tell us. It helps us out a lot.

• Hotfix 2: Purgatory bugs! - 3 September 2025

  Hi any and all, Just another quick patch to fix some bugs in purgatory: Fix for Purgatory tutorial screen continue button not being active and causing a soft lock. Fix for gamepad controls bugging out during the secret boss fight. Upgrading a weapon in purgatory mode should now refill the ammo of the upgraded weapon as intended. Soul count is now properly displayed in the post game endless stage. Thanks to everyone playing and reporting bugs. Keep telling us about them and we will keep squishing them.

• Labour day hotfix - 1 September 2025

  Hi all, Quick fix for some annoying bugs that have been bothering players: Tabbing out of the application while a menu is open shouldn't reset the game or let the game play behind the pause menu anymore. Purgatory upgrade screen will no longer accept gamepad inputs until the screen is fully open. Chapter 3 and Chapter 5 now play the correct music. The souls collected Steam stat now properly increments by the value of the coin collected. Thanks to everyone who spotted bugs for us. Keep them coming.

  Hi anyone! We are happy to announce that BACKFIRE's PC port is almost done. It's taken a bit longer then planned but all the game features are in place and we are settling into testing and a final polish pass. BACKFIRE will arrive on Steam on August 29th, 2025!
