Customise the type of lava to produce mountains with gentle or steep slopes. Watch volcanic islands rise from the ocean and then erode back into atolls.FloodsTrigger gigantic floods that wash away everything in their path.TsunamisMove massive amounts of ocean water around and watch the resulting waves wash across the landscape.EarthquakesWarp and transform the landscape with earthquakes featu…
- Meteors feature in Beta Testing - 29 July 2026
Greetings worldbuilders! The next major update for Terra Firma 2 is now available to test on the beta branch. This update features a long awaited feature- the ability to crash meteors into your worlds! Choose the size and speed then fling your space rocks ranging from (relatively) tiny blips all the way up to dinosaur killers that will completely remake the surface of your world. We've also listened to feedback and added a button to toggle the world zoom detail on and off. When zoomed detail is off, the simulation will continue running at all zoom levels, allowing you to closely inspect your worlds as they evolve. Other fixes:Minecraft export now uses fractional water levels for smoother water renderingFixed glitches on map boundaries in Minecraft exportsFixed water glitches in Minecraft exports~38% reduction in GPU memory used, allowing larger map sizes without crashing on some computer…
- Update notes for 29th May - 29 May 2026
Added new erosion speed with configurable value Added configuration setting for whether sea level changes the temperature Added configuration setting for whether ocean water rises when editing land under it Fixed serious performance issues on Nvidia cards introduced in previous update Overall simulation ~10% better performance, much better performance when zoomed in on trees Minecraft exports now feature water with fractional heights Fixed exporting Minecraft worlds with custom sea levels Fixed rendering issue with topographic and other data overlays at map edges Fixed behaviour on map edges where dirt would form a barrier Temperature map now properly updates when game is paused and at game start Fixed dirt/sand display on map load when paused Fixed bug with sea levels above 0m not saving/loading properly Fixed bug with shrubs not appearing when sea levels are lowered Fixed bug with col…
- Water and oceans update - 8 May 2026
Greetings worldbuilders! The next major update for Terra Firma 2 is now available to test on the beta branch. This update features vastly improved water physics for large flows of water, with the ocean now fully simulated. Test out new features like:Trigger floods that wash away everything in their pathRaise the sea level and watch the landscape slowly floodLower the sea level and watch the oceans drain, uncovering the sea floorTrigger tsunamis to wreck havoc across the landscapeLava now melts snow and ice betterOther improvements:Minecraft export supports exporting to different versions (1.20.1, 1.20.2, 1.21.1, 26.1+)Bugfixes and improvements to the Minecraft exportGeneral 10-20% performance improvement for main simulationGroundwater improvements make low lying flat areas swampyGroundwater improvements make plant growth in deserts much more realisticAdded temperature visual displayFixe…

- Volcanoes update now in Beta Testing! - 6 January 2026
The first major update is now available for testing on the beta branch on Steam! This update adds Volcanoes which erupt over time, causing lava flows which continually reshape the landscape. Explore the landscapes created by different types of lava flows. Slow moving and viscous felsic lava volcanoes form steep mountains, whereas fast moving mafic lava flows form shield volcanoes with gentle slopes. Watch volcanic islands emerge from the ocean and then slowly erode back in. Experiment with different types of volcanoes to produce different islands and island chains. The beta will be in testing for a period of time and then released once any bugs have been fixed, new UI assets produced and text translated to languages other than English.

- Terra Firma 2 is Released! - 27 October 2025
On Monday the 29th of January, 2018 I wrote the very first lines of code for a project I called "land". It was meant to be a simple little project that I could knock out fairly quickly and get some experience actually finishing and releasing a game. How wrong that was- it wasn't quick, or simple, and really "water" would have been a much better name anyhow.Well, 8 years later we've finally made it! It took 2,746 code commits, around 5,000 hours of work, 65,000+ players of the free version providing valuable testing and feedback, and approximately 89 trillion deer running around infesting your worlds but the day has finally arrived. No longer constrained to play Terra Firma for free, you are now able to play Terra Firma 2 in exchange for your hard earned money.A sincere thank you to all the people who made this possible, most especially all of you on steam who provided your support. The…
