- Percolator: Brewing Coffee & Watching the Clock - 12 June 2025
Hey Baristas,Percolator is a Roguelike Deckbuilder game set in a Cafe. You will be managing a pair of Baristas as they go about their day. For how much people love their daily caffeine kick, there aren't many Roguelikes about it. Percolator aims to provide a slightly more cozy and less battle-oriented fix for your Deckbuilding itch.I am aiming to provide a somewhat familiar experience while re-imagining some of the common mechanics that appear in the genre such as mana, small deck builds, and power up systems.Tell me what things you would like to see in a new Deckbuilder to really get you interested!Best -Surferelf
- What I Like About Card Games - 5 June 2025
Howdy everyone, When I started working on Percolator, I knew I wanted it to be a card game. As an adult, some of the popular card games (Hearthstone, Slay the Spire, Dominion, Pokemon, and Magic the Gathering to some extent) have been the games that have really stuck in my mind. In some aspects, they feel like the ultimate version of being able to customize your build. Some games have skill trees for your character, but in card games, you get to pick every card that determines your "character". There is so much flexibility in trying new builds, playing crazy combo oriented decks, playing value focused decks, or whatever else you want really. Each deck feels so personal, and when you are able to pilot it to a crazy victory, there is just something incredibly fun about that. Let me know below, what do you really enjoy about card games of any type? Thanks! Surferelf
- Card Game Pitfalls - 21 May 2025
Hi again! I think I'll continue to keep these short bites to read through. Today, I wanted to talk a little bit about what I haven't liked in the Card Game/Deckbuilder genre. I think a lot of the Deckbuilder Roguelike genre is filled with "battler" style games - the ones where you fight against enemies doing damage and blocking attacks. I think this is a perfectly fine system, but I wish more games tried to stray out of this. Of course Balatro has been popular lately, but I wish more games followed a path like that. Looking at Hearthstone, one of my inspirations, a lot of fun decks that I liked playing over the years (Freeze Mage, Patron Warrior, Miracle Rogue) changed shape or became non-existent due to patches over the years. Obviously, it's important for the meta to shift in these types of games, but I lost a lot of interest in Hearthstone due to no longer being able to play my favor…
- My Inspirations - 9 May 2025
Howdy folks! In my very first post here, I wanted to talk a little bit about the games that inspired me to make Percolator. One of my big inspirations is Hearthstone. It was my first exposure to any kind of card game that was more complex than your standard Blackjack or Go Fish. I would play for hours on end during the summer, and I would pull it up on my phone during lectures in college. To this day, some of those experience have been my favorite in any card game. I absolutely loved some odd decks like Mill Rogue. Providing alternate win conditions apart from just "kill the opponent faster" was so interesting, and it's something I wish more card games provided now. The original Grim Patron warrior decks could go wrong so easily, but always lead to hilarious results. When it all worked, I would feel so smart and get the wins. Above all else, I loved the idea that ever card you play matt…
