  • Huge Release! Neverending AI Storybook 2.0 - 13 October 2026

Neverending AI Storybook 2.0Eight months of work. Nearly 300 changes. This is the biggest update the game has had yet. The goals were simple: make it easier to get started, make the stories better, and give you more ways to bring them to life, without giving up what makes this game different. Your stories can run locally on your own computer, with no required cloud services or subscriptions - but we have even more cloud options if that's the road you'd rather go down. A whole new lookThe entire game has been redesigned, with revamped illustrations alongside the prose, clearer choices, a light theme, and a dark theme. The new setup wizard checks your hardware and recommends models that fit your graphics card, so you spend less time wrestling with settings like a power-user and more time writing stories like you wanted. Your models, your storiesThe game now downloads models directly, with…

  • Refined Settings, New Backends, and Text-to-Speech! - 28 May 2026

Hello Again, Readers, Writers, and Dreamers. A new Settings Menu is now in testing, designed to preserve all of our advanced features while making them far more approachable and user-friendly. Building on the settings overhaul introduced around Christmas, this updated interface maintains the same level of customization without overwhelming new users. We’ve also introduced major backend upgrades for both text and image generation, adding support for the latest models. In addition, text-to-speech support has been integrated into our newest beta build and is currently undergoing testing. We're only going to include one voice when we launch the feature but we'll be adding alternate voices shortly afterward. More to follow soon.Infinitely grateful for your support. Chris

  • More Beta Additions! Inference Backend Update - 3 August 2025

Hey storytellers, quick dev update! We’re still hard at work — and while the new settings menu is still in beta, there’s a good reason: 🔧 We’ve been busy upgrading the llama-cpp backend DLL to support the latest models. Why now? Because the new settings system makes it super easy to load your own custom models and we wanted to make sure the latest models work right out of the box. Maximum compatibility = maximum creative freedom. ✅ This updated backend DLL is now live in the Open Beta branch and ready for testing. Try it out with your favorite GGUF models and let us know how it goes! P.S. We’ve also included a new optional model file in this beta: LFM2, a brand-new release from Liquid.ai. It’s impressively lightweight at just 1.2GB, making it a great option for those running on 6GB GPUs or even 8GB GPUs with other apps running in the background. It also runs surprisingly fast with CPU ba…

  • 🎮 A Letter to Our Community - Enhanced Settings System Now in Open Beta - 14 July 2025

Dear Constant Readers, I’ve got a lot to share - but if you're the tl;dr type, scroll to the bottom for the short version. When I started building this game, I had a vision: true local AI storytelling where your stories, your choices, and your data stay completely yours. No servers, no subscriptions, no compromises. Just you and the infinite possibilities of AI-powered storytelling - without getting cut off right when things are getting good because you hit a token limit. I've been there and it sucks. But this journey started even simpler than that. I wrote the first prototype version of this for my 3-year-old daughter Molly - to make our storytelling nights more magical. Then I started having so much fun with it that I thought other folks might enjoy it too. That's why we're here today. You Made This Possible:I launched this on my late Grandfather's birthday toward the end of March, not…

  • Released: Flux DLC Model Pack - 27 June 2025

✅ Released: Flux DLC Model Pack The Flux model pack is now available as a free DLC! If you’ve been enjoying the enhanced image generation quality Flux provides, you can now re-enable it by downloading the optional Free DLC directly from the Steam store page. We originally removed Flux from the main install earlier this week to reduce download size and disk usage — especially for users who didn’t need the advanced models. This new setup keeps the base game lightweight while still offering power users full access to Flux’s high-quality image generation. 💾 How to Enable Flux: Go to the game’s Steam page. Scroll to the DLC section and check the box for Flux Models. Once it finishes downloading, launch the game and head to Settings → Image Generation. Toggle Flux on — and you’re good to go! Alternatively: If you're viewing this post immediately after the DLC's release, the dlc may not yet b…

  • Major Update! - 20 May 2025

🧭 Storymode vs Freedom Mode You now have two ways to play: Storymode (guided) A guided experience powered by the new Story Director, Beat System, and Knowledge Graph. This mode helps shape your journey with structure and memory, giving your adventure a sense of pacing and continuity. Builds structure, memory, and momentum. Gentle nudges to keep you on track when you deviate too far from the main story path. Freedom Mode (unguided) For those who prefer a blank slate, Freedom Mode offers completely open-ended storytelling with no narrative guidance. No beats. No outlines. No interference. • Exciting Update: GraphRAG and Beat System Coming Soon! - 4 May 2025

We're making excellent progress on two major enhancements for our AI storybook game! Here's a peek behind the scenes at what we're working on. New Graph-Based Knowledge System We're completely transforming how our stories remember details with a new Graph-based Retrieval Augmented Generation (GraphRAG) system. This creates a dynamic knowledge graph that tracks: Characters and their evolving states Locations and their properties Items discovered throughout the adventure Key events that have occurred Instead of each page being generated with only the last few pages in mind, the system builds interconnected nodes and relationships, allowing stories to maintain remarkable consistency. Characters will remember past interactions, locations will persist with their unique attributes, and past events will influence future developments. https://i.imgur.com/yz0lLlL.png Enhanced Beat System Alongsi…

  • Update Notes for April 26th 2025 - 27 April 2025

New Update Highlights: 🧠 New Local Model Available: We've included a new local model -- Psyfighter 2 (8.7GB) -- focused on delivering higher-quality text generation. It's not enabled by default, but it's available for users who want to experiment with even richer storytelling. (Fun fact: Psyfighter 2 was the model we used during most of development! It writes rich, natural stories -- and it’s completely Fiche'-free.) 🔧 Improved User-Supplied Model Handling: You’ve always been able to load your own model for storytelling -- but now, even if your model doesn't strictly follow instructions, the system will still use the included Phi-3.5 model for exit generation. This ensures you have complete freedom for creative storytelling while maintaining the structured precision needed for certain gameplay functions. 🐞 Race Condition Fix: Fixed a rare issue where users could start a new generatio…

  • Update Notes for April 13th 2025 - 13 April 2025

👷‍♂️ Bugfix Fixed a bug where the "Generate Images" toggle's value was not being properly instantiated between runs. The value would be reflected in the UI but not apply properly to game logic.

  • Update Notes for April 12th 2025 - 13 April 2025

👷‍♂️ Bugfix Modified Lazyloading on actionbar input. This fixes a bug that sometimes lead to the action prompt being cut off early.

  • Update Notes for April 10th 2025 - 11 April 2025

🚀 New & Improved Lazy Loading for Model File Loaders We've implemented lazy loading for model files to prevent UI freezing or lag during startup and generation. This significantly improves responsiveness, especially on machines with slower disk speeds or limited I/O performance. Support for Flux Image Model DLC (Coming Soon!) Added backend support for our upcoming Flux Image Model DLC — a brand-new, free image generation model that brings exciting new capabilities to our app. 🔍 About Flux (vs. Stable Diffusion 1.5) The Flux image model is a next-gen model we've optimized for creative generation. Compared to Stable Diffusion 1.5, Flux offers: Sharper detail resolution, particularly in textures and background objects. Better understanding of abstract prompts, making it more expressive for surreal or conceptual artwork. Improved composition balance, reducing artifacts and strange object…
