  • 0.2.0 - 29 achievements to unlock - 23 September 2026

0.2.0 is live - Achievements are here Before anything else, thank you. The launch has gone better than any of us expected and that is entirely down to you lot, it genuinely could not have been done without you. We are still finalising the numbers but we will be putting an update out soon to say exactly how much we will be donating to some amazing causes. Onto today. Steam 0.2.0 is live, and after a fair few hotfixes we have finally got the one thing everyone has been asking for in, achievements. 29 achievements There are 29 of them, all with art we had commissioned specifically for this, and honestly we think it looks brilliant. Some of them you will pick up just by playing, some are going to take a serious amount of time, and a handful are hidden so you can go and find those ones yourselves. A few of the ones you can go for: First Blood - be the first to knock a human player out of a m…

  • We're live on Steam — thank you for getting us here - 17 September 2026

We're live on Steam — thank you for getting us here Today OpenFront is live on Steam, and honestly I don't think any of us really expected to be sat here writing this. It's a strange thing to look back on. OpenFront was a small browser game, something you could load up in a tab and play a round of against complete strangers, built out in the open with no real plan behind it other than making something people actually wanted to play. There was no publisher, no big studio and no marketing budget, just three guys and a community that decided to stick around. A lot of us, myself included, started out as players first and ended up helping because we loved the game, and that is still more or less how the whole thing runs today. Somehow that has turned into over 21 million players, over 47 million views on YouTube, more than 5,500 videos made by 142 creators, over 65,000 of you in our Discord,…

  • 200,000 wishlists - Thank you! - 5 September 2026

200,000 wishlists Today is an amazing day for me, evan, josh and the whole Openfront community! We are here thanks to you guys and this is just as much of your guys achievement as thanks to you we have managed what only 1% of steam games manage with over 200k steam wishlists (and still another few weeks to go before launch) We are unique in the fact that we never paid for traditional advertisement, every penny we have spent has gone to people within our community as streamers, youtubers or paying you guys to make things for us. Openfront has no publisher, no marketing agency, no huge studio backing us just you guys pushing and demanding each thing we do improves the game or a riot will happen. Most importantly and I can't say it enough, thank you. That is the entire strategy and it has worked far better than it had any right to and its thanks to you guys Early Access - 17 September Open…

  • Dev Blog #003 - How We Nuke Cheaters - 3 September 2026

Dev Blog #003 - How We Nuke Cheaters We go into Early Access on 17 September. A lot more people are about to be playing, which is great, but it also means more teaming in FFA, more bot accounts, and more banned players making a fresh account and coming straight back the same evening. A few of you have asked what we're actually doing about all this, so here's what we've been building. Trusted Lobbies These are lobbies you can only join if you meet certain criteria. Account age, games played, purchases, that sort of thing. At the moment, banning a cheater costs them about thirty seconds. New account, back in a lobby, same behaviour, and the person who reported them gets to play against them again. Trusted Lobbies deal with that. A new account can still play OpenFront, it just can't drop straight into the lobbies that expect some history behind you, and history is the one thing you can't t…

  • No publisher. No marketing. No press. Over 200,000 players a day. - 21 August 2026

4,983,758 games were played last month. No games publication has ever reviewed it. Both of those are true, and the gap between them is the reason for this post. What OpenFront is A massively multiplayer real-time strategy game. A hundred or more players carve up a world map in real time. There's no base building and no unit micro — the depth is diplomatic. Alliances form mid-match and break at the worst possible moment, usually from someone you spent twenty minutes trusting. It runs free in a browser tab, no download and no account, and it has done for years. The Steam client is new. The game isn't. The numbers We've never published these before. July 2025 against July 2026: Games in a month: 1,066,159 → 4,983,758 — 4.7× moreSessions in a month: 5,155,339 → 14,329,952 — 2.8× moreAll time: 47,369,968 games and 145,551,939 player sessions Our public roadmap for 2026 set a target of 100,00…

  • v33 is live — Doomsday Clock, ranked 2v2, 22 new maps - 3 August 2026

v33 is live. The biggest update OpenFront has ever had. It's out right now at openfront.io — free, in your browser, no download and no account needed. Doomsday Clock A new battle-royale gamemode, which is not a sentence we expected to write about a strategy game. A doom zone closes in and drains troops and warships from everyone caught outside it. There's a ten-minute grace period, then it squeezes in waves. It exists because late-game stalemates were getting comfortable, and comfortable is the enemy of a good match. It's in the public rotation now. Ranked 2v2 Ranked matchmaking now runs 2v2 alongside 1v1, with its own ladder. It'll try to pair you with clanmates, and it cancels matches that don't fill properly instead of dumping you into a broken game. 22 new maps Sol — the entire Solar System. Russia, United States, France, Germany, China, Vietnam, Scandinavia. The Las Vegas Strip, wh…

  • OpenFront is heading to Steam Early Access in Q3 2026 — here's what's coming. - 11 July 2026

Steam is coming.Big news: OpenFront is launching on Steam Early Access in Q3 2026.OpenFront already has a home in the browser, and the community has gone further than we ever imagined — over 200,000 players jump into a match every single day. Bringing the game to Steam isn't about starting over; it's about meeting all of you on the platform where so many of you already live, with wishlists, achievements, a proper store page, and everything that comes with it.Why Steam, why Early Access? The browser version isn't going anywhere — it stays free and fully playable, exactly as it is today. Steam opens a second front: a dedicated client, easier discovery for new players, and a direct line to the millions of people who use Steam to find their next strategy obsession. We're going in as Early Access because that's how OpenFront has always been built — in the open, fast, and shaped by the people a…
