- August update - 3 September 2026
Hi all!Uf! Quite a month behind us! Full of chaos. Things that have effected our life in the past weeks:We're parents now, so 50% of the development team is currently fully occupied with a new project dictated by a new manager while the other 50% of the team is struggling to put in some work here and there.A water pipe started leaking in our bedroom walls so we had to tear the wall apart and replace it, which was not a great timing having a newborn at home. For some reason our internet connection stopped working for a week. 4 technicians visited our apartment stating their opinions and in the end replacing 3 modems and 6 cables.Luckily we're developing the game as a fun free time project and we're not tied to any deadlines. Only the ones that we set ourselves. For all reasons stated above we adjusted our to do list a bit and paused the UI development - probably for the next few months (th…
- July update - 3 August 2026
Dear friends and family! We are super happy to inform you that we've finally taken the big step and have started working on the UI - not just the counters, but the real thing! Here is a glimpse of what the inventory will look like. On the left there is a list of all the objects you have in your inventory. The right side displays the selected object along with a short description. The items that you can equip or use in any other way (like the map for example) can be selected through this user interface as well. The plan is to first finish the inventory and then also work on the other parts of the UI - map, adventure log, shop UI, flower collection ... A lot going on here. Hope you're able to cope with the heat waves if you are on the northern hemisphere. Enjoy the month of August! M&V
- June update - 1 July 2026
Hello to our vast fanbase of two! Great to have you here! It's been a busy month again in all aspects of life, gamedev included. One BIG thing to share is that the map of the game is finally completed! There are some minor tweaks on our to-do list like for example designing new foliage for the north part of the island, but terrain-wise this is it. These are all the islands, all the mountains, all the rivers and lakes, all the villages and all the forests that will be part of the game. What at first seemed to be a tiny map on a piece of paper turned out to be a quite big world in the end.We are continuing with the UI and UX development. We have the first non-placeholder UI elements in place and they will set the tone for the more complex parts of UI like the inventory, shop UI, adventure log (what is an adventure log you might ask) , flower collection etc. We are currently also working on…
- May update - 31 May 2026
Hi to both of you reading this! Happy to have you here! Time flies by when you're having fun and the month of May is almost over. Hope you got your fair share of strawberries and possibly also some cherries already (if you are on the northern hemisphere),Last month we've written about two parts of the map that we still need to finish. Glad to let you know that number 2, which was the last missing island, is completed. It's gonna be super hard to get there - a chain of quests involving winning a tournament in a local sport and trading the trophy for some really nice gear will have to be completed before that. We are currently working on number 1 - the area called The north Isle of trees. Here is the last forest you will replant. We are aiming to make this area a bit more funky regarding the flora so it differs from the rest of the island. Will share some results in the next month's updat…
- April update - 5 May 2026
Hi all! A bit of delay with the April update. Sorry for that. There are two things we wish to highlight from the past month. We are still working on finishing the map. And we are getting quite close. There are two areas we still need to put quite some work into. You'll be able to reach both towards the end of the game and it will not be that easy to get there. First one is 'North isle of trees' (number 1 on the image below). It's planned to be a swampy area with some unique flora. The last forest you'll have to replant will be located in this area. The second one is an additional island (has no name yet) that will most likely be located in the area 2 on the image below. You will require the proper gear and enough flaps to reach it. Worth exploring it tho as it might contain certain things important to complete some quests. ;) Simultaneously we've been finishing up some NPCs. There are a…
- March update - 3 April 2026
Hi all! Welcome to your monthly dose of excitement! There is actually just one task we've been working on in the past month. And it will probably take us another month to finish it. We had a rough sketch of the map for a while. Now it is time to polish it and add some life to it. Where there was a note 'add a village somewhere in this area', there is now actually a village. Where there was a small placeholder island with a mildly spooky vibe, there is now a big area worth exploring. You catch the drift. All in all making the environment richer and adding the missing pieces.Happy month of April!M&V
- February update - 5 March 2026
Hi both of you who read this! Nice to have you here!We enjoyed another month of developing Isle of trees. Here are some things we wish to highlight.Mini game - beak throw We added a new mini game to Isle of trees. It's called beak throw and is similar to a game you might know from real life. The goal is to throw a small rubber disc as close to another disk as possible. A game very popular in the bird community. In each game you get three throws and the final score is made up out of the sum of the distances. The goal is to have the smallest score possible. Currently we only have a training court ready where you play alone to practice. We do however plan to make it possible to play against other birds. There will also be a tournament but you will have to qualify. New dialogues angle We decided to change the angle of the camera when having dialogues. Previously the camera remained as is, w…
- January update - 1 February 2026
New year, same old us! Posting our monthly progress highlights!Save system You know things are getting serious when you start working on a save system. We knew this was going to be a major task and a lot of code had to be refactored to make it possible to implement. It took us about 4 weeks in the end (including all side quests) but we can now say we have a solid save system in place. There are over 300 variables being saved and more will probably have to be added as we continue the development. We wanted to make it possible for the player to save the game at any given moment which means there are a lot of things that need to be tracked. Proper testing will need to be done to check if everything works as it should but so far so good. Updated Steam store page We started posting on Reddit towards the end of the year and had quite some success with it. A lot of people that visited our stor…
- December update - 1 January 2026
Happy New Year everybody! December's been quite eventful. Seems like it's been going on for at least 3 months. Here are a few updates we would like to share with you.New Stem key art When designing our original art for Steam we decided to try to do it ourselves. We are not illustrators (can you tell?) but we were satisfied with the result at the time. We knew however that we would need to improve it down the road as it is quite an important piece of marketing. This time we commissioned an actual illustrator and you might be able to see the difference. We also updated the logo to go with the new vibe. Save system We started to work on the save system. It's our first time implementing one so it took us some time to really understand what approach would work best for our game. We want the player to be able to save the game at any time. We've already implemented the core components but real…
- November update - 30 November 2025
Hi everybody! In November we were part of our first Steam event. This was totally unplanned. We found out - just two days before the Animal fest started - that we can enter even if we don't have a demo. The results were quite nice. We had a relatively big jump in wishlists. Still not quite where we aim to be but given that we entered without a demo and with last minute store page modifications, things went pretty well.Other that that we continue our work focusing on the demo part of the map. We're adding additional features from our ToDo list making the game feel more and more adventurous and full of little things to discover. We added a new type of worm - the windsurfing worm. They are trying to get some tan on the beach (just like regular sunbathing worms) but if you get to close, they jump on a windsurf and sail away. They aren't so easy to catch. We started adding some caves that con…
- October update - 1 November 2025
Hi everybody! In October we decided to focus on finishing the demo - so just the decision was made, no delivery yet. We do have the whole map and story defined but thought it would be a good idea to first polish a smaller portion of the game, call that part a demo and let some people play it to start gathering some feedback. We kind of have a roadmap to get there and according to it this should take us about 6 months. Hopefully. In the spirit of this we are still polishing the visual appearance of the game, working on the user experience, camera angles etc. We've also started testing some sound effects just to see how things could be implemented, but will have to tackle this topic systematically in the future. We've been working on new types of worms which should be more difficult to catch. One of the new types are the parachuting worms. They can usually be found on high cliffs and jump i…
- September update - 30 September 2025
Hi everybody! WHAT A MONTH! Quite a busy one. We're making some final upgrades regarding the visual appearance of the game. We're still redesigning the main character (mostly done, just needs some finishing touches), adjusting the environment in the game (focusing on forests) and also rebranding the whole thing (Steam related visuals). Here are some topics we would like to highlight.Substance painterWe started using Substance painter and it really is a game changer (pun intended). We were hesitating with it as it is quite an expensive piece of software but it makes the process of painting 3D objects so much easier (we were not sponsored by Adobe to say this). We first used it to paint the trees we have redesigned and the trunks look much better now. Chirpy is also currently in the paint shop and we're quite excited to test the redesigned version in the game.Chirpy animationAs the model…
- August update - 30 August 2025
Hi everybody! In the past weeks we've mostly been working on redesigning existing 3D objects and adding new ones to make the game more appealing. Throughout the past year we have gotten better at 3D modelling and while one must just say 'this is good enough' at some point, we decided we were not there yet.Main character redesignThe original Chirpy was probably the first object that we created in Blender (can you tell?). As it is the main character of our game it definitely needed a facelift. We are quite close to the finish line regarding the mesh and will start to work on the animations and coloring in the next weeks.Trees redesignTrees are quite important in our game - it's called 'Isle of trees' for a reason. That is why we decided to make them from scratch as well. Currently they just seem too flat and we were way to careful regarding the polycount. Premature optimization is the roo…
- Hooray! 100 wishlists! - 27 August 2025
We're happy to share that we've reached a 100 wishlists. It might not be much, but we expect that there is still about a year of development and marketing ahead of us, so plenty of time to bring those numbers up. Slow and steady wins the race. We promised ourselves that the two of us would go out for pizza whenever the wishlists count reaches a power of 10, so it's pizza time for us!Thanks for following our development!M&V
- July update - 30 July 2025
Hi everybody! Here are the major updates from the past few weeks. It's been a busy time.New collectibles - berries! We added new collectibles to the game! Alongside seeds that are required to replant the trees and worms that are required for Grandma's famous worm pie, you can now collect berries as well! They are the island's currency, so make sure to gather them! ShopShoooopiiing! Berries are the island's currency, so what good are they to you if you can't spend them? We added a shop where you will be able to buy equipment (either required to complete quests or just to show off). The shop is run by an albatross (often confused for a goose) named Bob. Bob is a businessman. The shop is already fully functional, but has (like everything else) a super ugly UI. This is just a placeholder, and we plan to tackle the UI appearance as a whole at some point. What should you be able to buy in a sho…
- June update - 27 June 2025
Hi everybody! Here are the major updates from the past few weeks.New part of the map (remains to be named)We've added a new island to the map. It should have a name but it doesn't have one yet (any suggestions?). It's a rainy remote place that has a different more gloomy vibe than the rest of the map. The constant rain, the abandoned graveyard and the ruins help with this. It is worth exploring though! Something important is hidden in that area!New part of the map - Great divideWe've added another part of the map. Again it's an island. It will also play an important part in the game's progress. This area is known for it's strong winds, currents and steep walls that make it impossible to pass. The only way to get to the other side is to go through a narrow pass in the middle. What's on the other side? Can't tell yet but it's both fun and important. Isle of trees is on Youtube! We've launc…
- May update - 30 May 2025
To be honest, in the past few weeks our focus was mainly on marketing. It requires much more work than we initially thought it would. We were preparing content for social media and discussing different approaches on how to promote our game. We've started posting on Bluesky and plan to expand to Youtube in the next weeks as well. Regarding the development we were mostly dealing with weather - adding different weather conditions and optimizing the existing ones to make the world more versatile. We've had clouds before but they are now fine tuned and optimized. We've also added rain to some mysterious areas that simply require that kind of weather for the proper vibe. Enjoy the month of June! M&V
- April update - 3 May 2025
Hi all! In beginning of April we've set up the Steam page so in the past month quite some time was dedicated to fine tuning the content and letting people on social media know we exist (screaming into the void much? :D). Regarding the development there are two things we would like to share with you. UI functionality UI is a big area that we have not worked on at all until just a few weeks ago. At this point we have a very ugly but almost fully functional UI consisting of the menu, main menu and the inventory. As we have no previous experience with it the first milestone was to define the required components and get them to function the way they are supposed to. At least to some extent. The next step is to design the user interface and fine tune the user experience. Visual appearance of the game For this one we are really happy ːsteamhappyː. We knew it had to be done for a while but only…
