Developer Q&A Hey everyone!We recently had some time to do a Q&A and talk a bit more about our game and for what's more to come and wanted to share with you all! What kind of game is Clean Start? - At its heart, Clean Start is a cozy, narrative-driven cleaning game. It combines the satisfying, meditative loop of tidying up with heartwarming storytelling. What inspired the game’s concept? Most of us have experienced having a parent work abroad to support the family financially. So the game is inspired by that wave of economic migration in the 90s and more specifically the stories of women who took on domestic work in foreign countries. Although it wasn’t always a pleasant experience, and they faced many fears and struggles, we decided to tell a positive story based on the highlights of their memories. Dear Cleaners! Today we have something special for you! Another round of playtests has just started, but this time we have a whole new room for you to play and (hopefully) share your feedback :) We've also reworked the UI a little bit and added saving/loading to the game. On top of that, we've made some changes to the inspect mechanic, along with many other small tweaks and fixes. This round is an important one, as it covers all the changes we've made over the past month - mainly some big efforts to burn down the tech debt from the prototyping stage. 🔥 We basically reworked the entire technical backend of the game! 🛠️You can head to the game's Steam page and check it out right now :)Here’s a list of the main changes: Complete rework of the interaction system - mainly picking up, placing, movement, collision handling, and stacking of objects (+toggle snap (Space), +quest handling rework, +trashbox/savebox changes);Object context switching (at the moment mostly wall objects - wall placement);Tasks UI rework: hide finished tasks, but still show their "stars";Conversation history (aka dialogue log);Ability to interact while moving objects (e.g. opening drawers etc.);Options panel rework (new options available) + options now also in the main menu;Cursor icon rework…
- Input / controls update and playtests - 9 September 2025
We spent the last two weeks completely reworking our input system. This was something we pinpointed after analyzing your feedback from the demo survey - for which we're super grateful! The input system now works with both mouse/keyboard and gamepad devices (which also means SteamDeck compatibility). We implemented a virtual mouse for gamepads, along with many quality-of-life features like arrow/WSAD camera movement, edge scrolling, and many others.All these changes are now available to test via Steam Playtest.Any feedback is much appreciated! 💛
