- Ambrosia Sky: Act Two (PC) Review - 6 August 2026
When last I left off with Ambrosia Sky , I wasn’t particularly sold on the game. My initial hopes that it would be a moody, Powerwash Simulator in space, wrapped around a compelling narrative, were somewhat dashed, and the game I was left with wasn’t really doing enough with its gameplay or storytelling to hook me in. When I heard the game would nix its three-part structure for two, I hoped maybe it would focus on its strongest points and deliver a compelling finale. And unfortunately, that isn’t the case. I’ve often said in my reviews that reviewing a mediocre game is worse than reviewing one that is either bad or good, because there’s so little to actually say about a game that neither fails, nor really succeeds in its endeavours. Ambrosia Sky: Act Two is just more of the same—all the things I complained about last November , with some more added annoyances. Ambrosia Sky: Act Two cont…

- The Cluster Archives / Volume Three - 23 July 2026
The Great LeviathanThe following comes from Dr. Volkov’s diary during the first cycle of settling on the Cluster. While it was preserved in Dr. Volkov’s diary, he did not write it himself. The actual author is unknown. It came from a void. That is what we know. It is not from Sol, even if it buries itself in Sol. When the Leviathan died, it drifted into our system, pulled at by Saturn’s immense gravity, the gas giant pulling the decayed corpse to itself like a cloak. The heat of Sol warmed the beast, its body breaking into pieces to be scattered amongst Saturn’s rings, held in place by gravity like a spiderweb. Pieces of the beast were shepherd moons, collecting debris to itself as it rotted and decayed over time. This is where we were born. The Cluster grew from the decaying shepherd moon made of Leviathan DNA that we barely understood, that we still barely understand. We do not know it…

- The Cluster Archives / Volume Two - 1 May 2026
Myths, Superstitions, and Folklore of the Cluster! The following is taken from the Cluster’s premier encyclopedia, a community-driven digital archive that collects and catalogues the Cluster’s culture and way of life. The exact author is unknown, as all articles are contributed, fact-checked, and edited by intrepid yet anonymous scholars across the Cluster. The Cluster is full of its own particular folklore. Living amongst the stars hasn’t cooled humanity’s inclination to understand the currently unknowable through story and superstition. The most widely known of the Cluster’s superstitions is, of course, the scrimshaw bone charm! These charms are found everywhere throughout the Cluster as they are tokens of goodwill and good luck! When the early settlers of the Cluster discovered the asteroids were made of decomposing leviathan, they weren’t repulsed. Instead, they looked to the dead levi…
- The Treatment of Death in Ambrosia Sky - 23 March 2026
Exploring the death rituals was one of my first tasks when I started out as a Technical Designer at Soft Rains. The team didn't have a solid plan on how to approach them at the time, so I was given a long leash to play around with. I had a few strong references in A Mortician's Tale and L.A. Noire. At the time, we wanted to have many death rituals per level, with varying levels of realization, and we considered them side objectives in the game.L.A. NoireA higher fidelity reference that includes hand animation when inspecting the body.A Mortician's TaleMultiple-step body preparation that includes the use of multiple tools. We started out with a more interactive approach, similar to our references, letting the player select tools to use and progress through the procedure steps. We iterated to make the experience feel intuitive, but struggled with the pacing shift between the main gameplay…
- Act Two arrives this year as a free update! - 4 March 2026
Greetings Scarabs! ːscarabsignː We have an important update to share about Ambrosia Sky’s next chapter. ːambrosiaprojectː We’re excited to be able to bring the full story to everyone as soon as we can. Ambrosia Sky: Act Two will now serve as the conclusion to Dalia’s return home. When we first introduced Ambrosia Sky, we outlined Dalia’s story as a three-act journey. As development has continued, and as we've reflected on what the story truly needs, we've decided to bring the remaining chapters together into a single, cohesive finale. Focusing our full development efforts on Act Two allows us to deliver a polished, thoughtful, and cathartic ending to the crisis that began when Dalia first set foot onto The Cluster. Act Two will be the end of her journey as she races to uncover the reasons for the crisis and find her girl, Maeve. She will find answers to many of the questions that Act On…
- The Cluster Archives / Volume One - 4 February 2026
Hale Volkova’s first address as leader of the ClusterWe dig together, we grow together. It has been a generation since my father, the esteemed Dr. Veer Volkov, packed up his few belongings from Earth and made way to the asteroid belt around Saturn. Earth was dying, but not dead yet. And while humanity prepared their spaceships for galactic travel, learned the known rules of the universe and picked which ones to defy, the success of humanity’s expansion into the cosmos was threatened by a simple need: humans must eat. But there was a glimmer of hope. Asteroids dotting Saturn’s rings, which seemed to host a growth of exo-fungus. Fungus which did not wither under radiation nor break under solar winds. Fungus that grew from mineral-rich soil in the asteroids, made of composition we would soon discover the secret of … once it was too late to turn back. But before the discovery of the soil ca…

He has led teams of all sizes, and is well-known for his contributions to open world and level design through articles, lectures, and mentorship.Hi, I’m a Level Designer.I’m Joel, and I wear a few hats at Soft Rains. But the one I’ve worn the longest over my whole career is my Level Design hat.I remember when I first created a digital wall. I’d been a curious kid about games and computers, but it wasn’t until 1997 that I visited a friend whose mom had recently bought him a copy of “Level Design Secrets of Duke Nukem 3D” at the local mall. Armed with a CD-ROM and the BUILD engine, he showed me how to manifest a wall with a simple press of PgUp. I was hooked. From there, I cut my teeth modding games thr…

- Ambrosia Sky – Part One (PC) Review - 10 November 2025
I don’t think I fully knew what Ambrosia Sky was when I first saw it, but I was certainly intrigued by the idea of it. Initial trailers made it seem like PowerWash Simulator , but in space, and that was certainly a concept I could get behind. But when it started throwing words like “narrative” and “Immersive Sim” around, then I knew for sure I had to give it a look. However, Ambrosia is certainly not the word I would use to describe this sky—and I might go so far as to say it’s a case of false advertising. What’s on offer is a fairly dreary game that does little with its setting or mechanics, and the more I played, the more I felt myself drifting into the abyss of sleep. Ambrosia Sky is set within a large space colony located within the rings of Saturn. After fleeing a dying Earth, scientists set up an agricultural facility in hopes of finding ways to sustain life in the far reaches of…
